Post by Jackal-GI »

Good day all.

I am having a problem that when i play battlefield 3 my game freezes 5-10 minutes into a multiplayer game. I have tried everything to fix it but no success.
I have to ctrl anlt dlt to end the process.
I hope anybody can help me please because i am really keen to play with you but cant atm.
It only happens in Battlefield and no other game.
My rig:

Kak deal Jackal, from what I hear I'm guessing you have some corrupt files. BF3, Battlelog and Origin have been updating like crazy maybe its that.

I'd try this which gives BF3 access to more virtual memory: http://www.pixelshine.net/howto/2011/11/23/battlefield-3-nov-22-patch-crash-fix/

Punkbuster is another suspect, I'd give that a manual update too http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=dl-bf3.php . Not great advice, but its all I can think of.

i know this is a flyer - but your 6 gigs sounds strange - how many sticks/modules? have you tried taking one out at a time and see if that makes things better or worse?

no, if you can play for 5 to 10 minutes, it means the software is semi-ok. But just to be on the save side, please answer the following questions:

1. what is the temps on the CPU, idle and under load
2. what is the temps on the GPU, idle and under load
3. what OS do you run, I assume 64bit or else you will not register 6GB, and I hope Windows 7
4. what speed does your GPU fan operate at

I am thinking heat, long before anything else here.

I agree, it's likely to be either heat or power. What PSU are you running?

1. what is the temps on the CPU, idle and under load- (idle 38 and under load 60)
2. what is the temps on the GPU, idle and under load - (idle 43 and under load 60)
3. what OS do you run, I assume 64bit or else you will not register 6GB, and I hope Windows 7 ( 64bit windows 7)
4. what speed does your GPU fan operate at (set to custom under strain it runs at 95 % witch is over 6000 rpm)

temps seems fine, no problem there. The only other place where temps could be a potential problem, but unlikely (though still worth checking) is the NorthBridge and the South Bridge. Also, did you OC that CPU? I find it hard that that CPU at stock could push your GPU all the way to warrant a 95% fan speed.

Also, as Jarrod suggested, what PSU do you have, and have you perhaps tried to swap the PSU-power cables around?

Finally, what happens if you run Mem-check, and or Prime95, in other words, we need to try and determine if it is the hardware that is the problem, or the software.

It doesn't appear to be hardware related, there are other people here more equiped to answer software related issues. I would suggest try checking what else is running in the background and disable it, oh, and I would also recommend updating the drivers, all of them. For instance, I recently had a problem with Skyrim, I did not believe it, but when I've updated my sound driver and that resolved all the problems. http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1321594-nothing-happens-after-wagon-reaches-the-first-city/

Good luck, and let's hear what the experts got to say...

You don't perhaps have the Origin "allow in game messages" or whatever enabled do you? If it's not hardware related (everything swoppped), then it's likely software related. Get new drivers first off for everything, perhaps try several release old drivers just in case. I dunno, sounds like a tough one, if pc is locking up (usually hardware) but you've swapped everything and it still happens.
