Squad Perks

Post by Skouperd »

Got the following information off the net, but mainly from this site here
http://battlefield3tips.net/
It is a condensed version, with all the other non relevant stuff removed.

Level: Score: Perk
23 - 470,000 - Squad Sprint Specialization
26 - 590,000 - Squad Ammo Specialization
29 - 710,000 - Squad Flak Jacket Specialization
31 - 810,000 - Squad Explosives Specialization
33 - 910,000 - Squad Suppression Specialization
35 - 1,010,000 - Squad Suppression Resist Specialization
37 - 1,110,000 - Squad Grenades Specialization

SQD SPRNT: (Individual unlock on level 2, squad unlock on level 23)
The Sprint specialization in Battlefield 3 allows your characters to not only sprint for longer distances but also lets them sprint faster. It does not increase your unsprinted movement speed, nor does it improve your weapon draw time after sprinting.

Squad Sprint specialization does the same thing as SPRNT spec but gives the bonus to your entire team. As soon as you have unlocked SQD SPRNT, you should always use the SQD version instead of using the singular version.

The SPRNT spec in Battlefield 3 is one of the best specializations to use simply because it increase your movement speed. It is particularly good on Rush Mode maps where territory is extremely important. When you cap a set of M-COMs, being able to sprint towards the next set and grabbing as much territory as you can is extremely important.

SPRNT spec is also great in Rush because it allows you to return to battle faster if your entire team gets wiped. It is less useful on smaller maps or Team Deathmatch where sprinting can get you killed. It does of course help when darting across openings, but whenever you do sprint on you always have to worry about running head-on with an enemy and not being able to shoot fast enough.

Regardless, if you are having a 4-man squad set up their specs so each player gets 4 specs, this is definitely one of the specializations you will want to pick.

SQD AMMO: (Individual unlock on level 5, squad unlock on level 26)
The Battlefield 3 AMMO spec gives you twice as much starting ammo. This only effects bullets. It does not effect explosives (which are increased by the EXPL spec) or grenades (which are increased by the FRAG spec). As a result, if you are playing the Support Kit and have the ammo pack, there is no reason to equip this specialization.

The Battlefield 3 Ammo spec is one of the best specializations you can get in the game. It is perfect for Assault and Recon players in particular, especially if you are good enough to stay alive for long periods.

The better you get at the game, the more you find yourself running out of ammo as you rack up longer kill streaks. This is where the Ammo spec really comes in handy.

Support kit players do not need this specialization, unless they choose not to use the Ammo kit. Any Support player who is filling the Support role is likely to want the SUPR specialization anyway.

Engineers are better off sticking to the EXPL perk as their explosives are their real ammo; increasing these is much more useful than increasing their actual bullet count.

SQD FLAK: (individual unlock on level 8, squad unlock on level 29)
The BF3 Flak Spec allows the player to take less damage from indirect explosive hits (direct hits will still kill you). You will be more likely to survive indirect hits though, which often take out players in BF3.

You can also get the BF3 SQD FLAK specialization, which increases your entire squad’s resistance to explosive damage.

There are only a few times really you would want to use the FLAK specialization. First off, you never really want to use the FLAK specialization yourself but rather only the SQD FLAK spec, so your whole squad benefits.

If your squad is working together and looking to either take down M-COMs or is commanding vehicles, this spec actually works well. If you are using vehicles or capping M-COMs, you are likely to take a lot of explosive damage, and staying alive can mean the difference between capping an M-COM and getting killed.

However, it is usually not worth giving up SUPR, SPRNT, or AMMO for this spec unless you really need it. It works best when you have a squad of 3 or 4 players with a vehicle so everyone can benefit.

SQD EXPL: (Individual unlock on level 11, squad unlock on level 31)
The BF3 explosives specialization, denoted by EXPL, increase the amount of explosives you have. Note however that this only increases your explosives granted to you via gadgets and does not effect grenades.

This means the EXPL perk increases things like C4, anti-tank mines, and the number of rockets you start with. If you want to increase your grenade count, you will need to use the FRAG spec.

The SQD EXPL specialization increases the number of explosives for your entire squad. As soon as you unlock this, there is no reason to use the EXPL spec any more as the squad-wide version provides the same number of bonus explosives to each player.

The Explosive spec is naturally most useful for those actually using explosives. However, it is even more useful for those that have a need to actually use a lot of explosives. Just because you have a Rocket Launcher equipped does not mean you will necessary need more than your 4 starter rockets. This depends on your playstyle.

One example where you may want to use the EXPL spec is if you are a support class using C4. C4 can be used to level buildings, be placed around M-COMs, or even be used to destroy foliage. This is all particularly useful in Rush mode, where destroying foliage can make it hard for the offense to advance towards the M-COMs.

Additionally, in Deathmatch the other team might be turtling inside a building. You can use EXPL + a rocket launcher to completely destroy the walls of a building. You will want the extra rockets from the EXPL spec to get this.

SQD SUPR: (Individual unlock on level 14, squad unlock on level 33)
The Battlefield 3 Suppressive Fire specialization increases the suppressive effect of your bullets. The suppression effect is the screen blur that occurs sometimes when you shoot.

This blurs your vision, making it hard not only shoot your opponent but even find where they are shooting you at as well as take cover, especially if your opponent has the SUPR specialization. As a result, the SUPR spec is a really strong specialization to have.

The SQD SUPR spec gives everyone on your squad an increased suppressive effect. Once you have the SQD SUPR specialization unlocked, you should always use that one over the plain SUPR spec as you want to buff your whole squad

The SUPR effect is very strong. If you have ever fought someone who is using it, it is practically impossible to make a great play and defeat them if they sneak up on you, simply because by the time you turn around you will not be able to see very well.

It is also great if you are filling a suppressive role, such as a support class in Rush mode who is keeping targets pinned while the rest of your team moves up.

All in all, when you are high enough level to use this, you almost always want to use it (or have someone in your squad the SQD SUPR spec). It really is just that good. You can use it in every mode and in every situation very effectively.

It is particularly good for players who are new to the game and have trouble aiming. This way you will at least blur your opponent’s vision if you miss, which will help you secure more kills. It is still a great perk even for the best players though.

If you are truly an amazing player and are going solo, you might decide on extra ammo or a frag grenade over SUPR, or even SPRNT spec on a big rush map where you want to go deep into the enemy’s base. Everyone else should default to this specialization in my opinion. That is how good it is.

Of course, you want to try to get your squad to give you all the best perks. In an ideal world you will have a 4 person squad and be able to get AMMO, SUPR, FRAG (EXPL for Engineers/Support), and a choice between SPRNT (Rush) or COVR (Deathmatch).

SQD COVR: (Individual unlock on level 14, squad unlock on level 35)
The Cover specialization reduces the effect of suppression fire on you. If you have ever noticed your screen blurring when you are under fire, this is the suppression fire effect. When you have the COVR spec active, it reduces this blurring effect.

This basically does the opposite of the SUPR spec (short for suppressive fire), which increases the amount of blur you experience when someone with this spec fires at you. This negates the effect of SUPR and makes you experience less suppression when you are under heavy fire.

There is also another version of the cover specialization called SQD COVR, which applies all the benefits of the COVR spec to all 4 members of your squad. You will always want to use this over COVR spec when you unlock it.

The COVR spec really is not worth using on its own unless a large number of players you are going against are using it. It is definitely a good specialization but I really would not default to this spec over EXPL or AMMO.

The COVR spec is good to use when you are on a squad where other players are providing the more mainstream specializations through the SQD spec options. It is particularly good when you are on offense on Rush mode, as many players on the other team like to use the SUPR spec in this situation.

When all 4 players in your squad are using squad perks, you can have COVR, AMMO, SPRNT and SUPR at the same time, which is a nice advantage for your team. If you have a team full of engineers you can also use EXPL or FLAK as well.

SQD FRAG: (Individual unlock on level 20, squad unlock on level 37)
The FRAG spec gives players who use it an extra M67 grenade. Given that there is no other way to get extra grenades, this is actually quite useful, particularly if you are good with grenades.

This works even better when you are using the SQD FRAG spec, which gives everyone in your squad an extra frag grenade.

Personally, the BF3 Frag spec is my favorite spec when playing in Team Deathmatch simply because grenades are so good. The key is to just get practice using grenades.

Naturally, most of the time will want to “cook” grenades in order to time it so they blow up on impact. This lets you throw them directly at players who are hiding and gives them no time to hide.

Most players do not know how to do this, but if you hit the throw grenade button (L Back on X-Box) and then immediately press the and hold the trigger (RT on X-BOX), you will start cooking the grenade. Releasing RT will throw the grenade. If you are throwing it directly at a person, you will want to hold this for about 2 seconds (depending on distance) and then let it go.

Of course, sometimes you do not want to cook a grenade. An example of this is when know someone is about to come around the corner and you are laying a trap for them.

The SQD Frag version of this is always a good option as everyone can always use more grenades. The only catch is you have to be rank 37 in order to get it!
