Vietnam - What an awesome war!!

Post by J_Th4ng »

So it's been released now. Installation was as easy as one can hope, the Vietnam files are already included in the last patch released by EA. All you need to do is look at the email that EA sends with the access code, and key it in in-game, after clicking the 'Vietnam' link, and you're ready to go.

So, how is it? Well, I've played a couple of hours this morning, and all I can say is that it's pretty fantastic. It is more BC2, as everyone expected, but it's quite different at the same time. Firstly, there are no fancy optics for the weapons (with the exception of scopes for recon, of course). This means that firefights require you to get a bit closer to the enemy than before. Each class has three weapons to choose from, all of which are unique to the expansion. There are also flamethrowers!! :flame: Tanks also get a flamethrower as the driver's secondary weapon, should you have that perk equipped.

The maps are both gorgeous to look at and fun to play. There are four of them so far, with a fifth to be unlocked once the PC community has collectively performed 69 million teamwork actions (resupply, repair, revive, heal)

All four of the current maps can be played in both conquest and rush mode, and are well laid out and intense to play. Of course they all conform to the jungle theme, but there are still plenty of open spaces for recon players.

The mood of the setting is fantastic, with radio reports being played back during the loading screens, as well as 60's rock music.

This is a superb expansion, and for only R100 it's a real bargain. I hope that the rest of the clan get it ASAP so that we can pwn together.

It's so good, that i doubt i can go back to regular BC2 now. . . .

Lee, Hubris and I were on from about 8pm until a little after 10pm. We were on the WAGE conquest server, and on the grrr-COD TS channel - unfortunately Mumble has a user limit on the server (100 people) which meant that we couldn't use it.

I was also on during that time but I was on the Igame server....
So what is the standard communication being used now?

Frankly I don't even bother being on ts anymore as there is never anyone else on... even other people that is playing....

That's odd, the first thing I do before firing up any game is check out the TS channles to see who's on. Virtually always there are a few others on there, and most of the time there's a game going.

Mumble appears to be the new choice of comms software, however there are issues with the fact that the WAGE server can only accomodate 100 people. I therefore check both before playing.

We need one voice server. If wage has 100 user limit, then I think thats not the server for us. We can't be split. Personally I found ts3 to be much more pleasant on the ears than all the background noise/crackle/whatever I hear on mumble.

Personally I don't consider mumble as "new". Used it for several months about two to three years ago when playing eve-online. We eventually ditched it and went back to ts2 due to issues on the mumble server when we tried to have several hundreds of people on the server at once in only a few channels.
