Re: rAge - Are we gaming?
If someone drives up and can bring my pc, then I will of course contribute to petrol costs.

From the darkness you must fall
Failed and weak, to darkness all.
Re: rAge - Are we gaming?
Jarrod, I was keen to fly but you persuaded me not to buy a ticket so that you, Voetsek and I could drive up with the machines.
I have now decided to fly up with my laptop regardless. It should handle BF2, the other games are not that appealing to me for LAN.
Shadey I hope those plans to get group seating come through cos it will make a big difference.
I am still super keen for paintball. I get that its not everyones favourite and its a PC Gaming weekend but given the lack of a proper tournament I would like to try to paint some you in the great outdoors. I would like to get some PC gaming in but for me (LAN Tournament aside) theres not that much difference between playing L4d with you guys at home or in a hall surrounded by teenagers. I will still enjoy it but not as much as marking you with a nice round bruise.
Enough rant, I'm looking forward to seeing you all again regardless, and will join it whatever group activities we decide on. <Insert lube comment here>

Well, that's solved that one then. Flying it is.
I'll bring my work laptop along to leech, but it certainly won't handle any gaming. I guess I'm now up for the paintball if it's happening.

Re: rAge - Are we gaming?
I guess I have been waiting for too long to say this and as Shadey says… the rumours are gathering.
Earlier this month, I sold my house and will be moving into a flat in town for a few months. I planned this all to occur before rAge but did not factor in my wife's unhappiness with moving into a new home and the hassles this will cause.
That said, I was hoping it would all sort itself out and I would see you in JHB. This weekend I realised that this would not be the case and have agreed to remain in CPT with my wife. This was after she spent around 20 min moaning to Jarrod’s wife about my gaming habits.
So I will put my ticket up for whoever would like to go in my place. The only plus that I see is not having to sleep next to Jarrod – oh and that ticket is also available if someone can handle the snoring.
I am very disappointed with this situation, as I have been waiting the whole year for this. I think that I have paid up for the ticket and accommodation but please let me know if I still owe anything as I did commit to the trip. Like the T-Shirts etc

Dam Daz! Sorry to hear that. I was looking forward to your company as its you are the only other intelligent one in the clan. Might as well take a good book now.

I'm working on that. Walter says he needs to know how many pc's we'll have there ... and which days. For example, how many will we have there first thing Fri morning as opposed to late Friday afternoon or even Sat. The tricky thing here is that the general rule is "no saving seats". We'd have to try and 'squirm" are way around this with Walter's help. Walter's connection is with VC... its a CONNECTION. Walter in his own right does not have any true 'power'. He'd actually is doing us a big favour by sticking his neck out there. How rAge works: NAG organizes the LAN at rAge. VC are the ones that actually run it physically... ie servers, systems, admins, etc... Agasa actually "rents" this service from VC.
That being said, we first need to establish who is bring a pc to rage and if so when.
I'm going to be straight forward here and say I'm not very happy with the situation between PB / gaming as it stands. For me, rAge is about hanging out as a whole clan and this whole situation is already dividing us. Blame the ovaries, but that is how I feel. Now, I do not have a problem per say with a few members wanting to go and do PB on Sat. What bothers me is that this decision has brought about the situation that NO ONE from Cape Town will have a PC there. (Exception is Geth that will bring his pc that can play BF2.)
So, what are we going to do TOGETHER as a clan with half of our members without a PC the rest of the time? Sure, I'm also thinking selfishly - I'll have my PC there. But do I want to be gaming when half our clan is elsewhere? Short answer = No. I want us together as much as possible this rAge weekend. Its not every day we can all be together.
As it stands, I figure we have 2 options:
1. Convince Geth to do the road trip so as to make that trip cost effective.
2. If Geth is adamant on flying, I will pay whatever the difference is as if he did drive with Jarrod and Mikey. I really mean it. If its R500 or R1000, I'll do it. It is more important to me to have all of us gaming together (for the rest of the time besides PB) than money.
So, Jarrod - the question stands: Will you drive up with Mikey (with the other CPT okes PCs) and take those extra 2 days of leave? If my cash contribution makes it more economical, it comes down to the fact of you being willing to drive up. (I know with only Mikey as company that could be quite painful! haha jokes
)Anywho, my heart is begging for you to say YES!
One alternative I can think of is asking my Cape Town office to assist with trucking your pc's to Joburg. However, we do not have our own trucks that go between SA cities and would rely on hiring a 3rd party trucker. I even hesitate on suggesting this because I would have no control over this and we all remember what happened to Lee's pc when Scorp organized transport.
The last alternative Odi actually mentioned to me - Rainynight (Alex) works for RAM couriers. He might be able to get us a deal. Again, it comes down to trusting your pc with a courier and I don't blame you all if you said no.
Please let me know your thoughts on what I said. I really think this needs 'sorting out'.

Re: rAge - Are we gaming?
Shadey - Am i correct in understanding that you are concerned that for almost the WHOLE weekend we wont be together as a clan, cause at the moment the paintball is scheduled for friday afternoon. this is subject to venue and interest, even if we just have a "social' with some if us playing, while others just watch/make fun of the paintees.

Not at all, I do not mind anyone playing PB - who knows, I might even join in.
What bothers me is the entire rest of the weekend.

I have bought my plane ticket. I dont mind contributing to fuel as well if Jarrod wants to drive up with Mikey.
Shadey I feel your message sister! At one stage I was seriously considering organising a BF2 comp and recruiting clans and players on the SGS forum to get us all involved but then I remembered how difficult it was organising a comp when all the clans had seating together.
The plans are all over the show at the moment, especially wrt PC gaming. For me, the weekend will be about catching up with a lot of good friends and I dont need a pc for that. I will install some of the games mentioned on the list just to show you all that 2 months of resting my trigger finger in Chad haven't made me slow.
I'd also like to urge everyone to reconsider paintball or even come up with other ideas instead. With BC2 out we can still enjoy other pc games but it gives us the opportunity to get away from the LAN for a bit and have fun in another environment. Something we can all do together.

Re: rAge - Are we gaming?
Excellent post Sheri. I agree 100% with all the points you stated and feel exactly the same.
rAge is about catching up with your online family and doing what we all love, gaming. People will object and say its more than gaming, and i agree, but for me, gaming is a big part of the weekend.
For most of us (or me atleast), gaming is what brought us together.
And that makes it worthwhile for me. As Sheri said, if there are added costs with getting gaming rigs up here, I will also GLADLY pitch in to assist in making this happen. We can call it the, "kaapie rigs2rAge fund".
At the end of the day, one's weekend is their own, and you can really do what you want with it. If you want to play paintball, do eeet. If you want to game the whole weekend, do eeet. If you want to spend the weekend non-compos-mentis, DO EEET. Its your weekend. But lets try spend some QT together along the way...
This only happens once a year, and I'd hate to see the opportunity to make sweet sweet love to you Capetownians pass me by...
