Worms: Reloaded - take the challenge

Post by J_Th4ng »

Okay, the worms comp is by necessity going to be a lot simpler than the UT one. The game only supports up to 4 players at a time, so having being team based games is going to be difficult. For that reason, the tournament will be played as a series of one on one games, with everyone playing everyone else in a round robin tournament. The only exception to this is the semi-final.

Prizes:
Winner: Seagate 320GB USB powered external HDD
Runner up: Xbox360 wired gamepad controller

Rules:
Players will be divided randomly into two pools (names will be drawn out of a hat) of 5 (currently) players each.

All players will play all other players in their pool (each player will play 4 matches) in a duel match, with the following rules:

1. Each match consists of two rounds, a ‘home’ and an ‘away’ round
2. The ‘Home’ player in each round chooses the game type, and generates the map to their own preference within the random map generator. Allowable game types are: ‘Standard’, ‘Warfare’, ‘Crazy Crates’, ‘Bazookas and Grenades’ or ‘Forts’. The time limit is the standard 10 minutes, and the team for each round consists of four worms.
3. The scoring is based on the results from both rounds. If there is an outright winner, they receive 3 points. If the match is a draw, the players each receive 1 point

Once all of the duels are completed, points are totalled up to produce the final ranking. The top two ranked players in each pool will then progress to the finals. If there are players on equal points, ranking will be resolved by means of tie-breakers

Tie-breaker games will be played as a single round of ‘Crazy Crates’ mode, using the first generated ‘Horizontal island style’ map offered up by the host’s PC. Teams in tie-breakers will have only 2 worms each

The final will be played as a 4x4x4 deathmatch (four teams of four worms over four rounds). Each of the finalists will take a turn at being the host, and thus selecting the map and mode to be played.

Players will be awarded 1 point for being the first eliminated in a round, 2 points for being eliminated second, 3 points for being the last eliminated, and 4 points for being the winner. Points are totalled at the end of the four rounds, with the highest number of points indicating the winner (duh!!). As before, tie breakers will apply if required to separate players on the same number of points.

Games can be played on multiple PC’s if desired, or in ‘hot seat’ mode on a single PC. This choice is up to the players of each game. For players that don’t own a copy of worms, they can either use someone else’s PC, or play ‘hot seat’ mode.

Hmmm, yes. Looking back through teh posters, it seems that Lep took it upon himself to add you and Paul to the roster. I'l remove Paul, until such time as he signs up for the game.

Updated the competition rules, in order to make the comp a little less time consuming. Each player will now only play 4 matches in the elimination phase, and there is a single 4x4x4 final. Details in the OP.
