Okay, a couple of weeks back we had a thread where everyone suggested games for rAge. However, everyone just added games to the list, and thus far no decision has been made about what we're going to play.
So, lets get that sorted out.
As a start, we need a couple of good FPS MP games to get those reactions. There are a few free FPS games that can be played, Lee is going to download a couple of them for all of us to partake of:
* Americas Army 3
* F.E.A.R. Combat
* Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
Additionally, a fair number of us own TF2, so it would be good if those f us with internet access could get the game updated to the latest version the day before rAge. then, the rest of us can take backups at rAge.
Of course BF2 is also a candidate, although I for one won't be able to play it. My BF2 disks are packed away with most of my belongings until I move ito the new house.
I am also looking to find a copy of Quake 3. Anyone got one? IIRC, Quake 3 with the latest patch can be played without the CD in drive, and I know that you can play on a LAN with multiple players using the same CD Key.
Phatso mentioned that he's got a free MP game off Steam, called Alien Swarm. He'll bring a backup of that for us to share in the fun too
Worms is another game that a lot of us have. This should also be LANable.
There are no strategy games on this list, does anyone know of any good RTS games that are free to MP for LAN? Skoups, I remember you playing Supreme Commander at your LAN, does that mean it's shareable?
If we get all of the above, we'll have plenty of gaming options to play, and a lot of these are free.
On a personal note, I'm so enamoured of Worms at the moment that I'm going to sponsor a prize for the 'All Grrr rAge Worms Championship'. I dunno yet what the prize will be, or the format of the competition, but I'll make it something worthwhile, so get practicing your Wormicide.
Oh, and one cool thing that I read. Apparently, NAG have arranged to have internet access at rAge this year. This is not going to enable online play or file downloading, but should give people the means to log on to Steam and other 'need to be online' game services. I expect (because I'm a cynic) that the service will break, so I'll be bringing my 3G dongle ith me, so that we can all at least login to Steam to activate games where backups are provided.
If I'm missing any 'Have to play' games from teh list above, please post them here. However, please don't post any games unless you have a plan that will enable the majority of the clan members at rAge to get it i.e. if you have free games, or steam backups of very popular games that most of us have.
's gonna be epic!!
Finalising the Gamelist
Re: Finalising the Gamelist
Good news, Denis has just confirmed that Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, is the strategy game that he has which can be LANned. He's taking ownership of this game, and will ensure that he has copies for distribution at rAge.
Also, being the legend that he is, Denis has offered to sponsor a comp for this game too!! So grrrls, get yourselves in practice, there's going to be some real competition this year, and I promise the prizes will be worth playing for.
Is there anyone else here who has the means to sponsor a comp? Would be cool to have some kind of FPS competition, to add to the Worms and SupCom strategy offerings. Ideally, if we have an FPS comp, it needs to be a game that can be played 1 on 1 in duel mode, so here's hoping I can find a copy of Quake 3 for us to share.
Details of the comp, rules and prizes, will be posted soon. I think we can possibly open this up to invited guests too, so if we have any friends that would like to partake, we can offer invites out to them.

Re: Finalising the Gamelist
Hi Jarrod, yes, I have Supreme Commander Forged Alliance, and it is a "lan" version. So will be bringing that along.
However, the following LAN games are also very popular, and I can bring a lan copy for the people as well:
1. TrackMania - the original (damn, that is a fun game, especially the custom tracks that I've designed). Please note, this is NOT the latest, greatest version, but we can play that too if needed.
2. 1nsane - this is a game which is similiar to quake and the likes where you have to "capture the flag" type things, but with cars, an awesome fun factor
3. Another fun FPS game is Crysis Wars, not mistaken, that is a free game.

Jarrod if we have any $ left in the slush fund maybe we can offer a Steam Game voucher as a prize for one of the games too.

Re: Finalising the Gamelist
I would like to sponsor an Unreal Tournament. I have downloaded the game and provided it to Jarrod who will distribute copies at rAge. It will follow the worm’s leaderboard but I will need someone to officially take charge whilst I am sitting in CPT working on my marital skills. It’s the Unreal Tournament 2004 game which means it can be distributed and has a number of different game modes.
I will choose the maps and game play (will leave out the vehicles) and put the information into a thread later this week. As I have never played this game, anyone who has, is welcome to offer suggestions.
Prizes will be detailed as soon as the purchase order is ready, and I will have a special prize for the looser as well

Re: Finalising the Gamelist
Awesome, nice one Daz!!
This now means that we have three competitions to keep us busy at rAge this year. Two of the three (Unreal Tournament 2004 and Supreme Commander Forged Allianace) are free to LAN games and copies can be provided to everyone on the day. The third, Worms: Reloaded will need to be a bought and paid for copy of the game. Having said that, as the tournament will mostly be one-on-one games, they could be played on any two PC's, or even one PC (Worms supports hotseat mode).
Okay, the sponsors of each of the competition games will create their own tournament rules, as well as the prizes for the tournament. Please sign up below if you'd like to compete in any of the specific comps. They will be scheduled so that you can enter all three competitions if you so desire... We may also open up the tourny to friends of grrr that we wish to allow entry (e.g. Mark who will be with us for the weekend, anyone else that you guys feel should be included - Walter?)
Tourny: Worms Reloaded

I'm not goint to enter the SupCom competition, I'm entirely to useless at RTS games to even give it a try. But I do intend kicking arse in the other two
Of course, if there is anyone else who wants to sponsor a competition, feel free to add it to the list...

[+] THIRD PRIZE: Glow brick (cool conversational piece of whatever)
[+] THIRD LAST BOOBY PRIZE: Tagz Scrolling Message LED Badge (ok so try not come third coz its currently programmed with "MY MOM SENT ME TO RAGE")
