Bad Company Tips and Tricks

Post by Paul »

Admins feel free to move this topic but I don't recall and can't find a TIPS and TRICKS thread for BC2. I know there is one on SGS but I think we need one here that won't get derailed and filled with teh same stuff over and over

* sensors are your best friend - Sensors are the shiz, as Phatso was saying last night, you cannot have to many sensors. Especially for RUSH, once you have armed the MCOM, throw done a sensor around the MCOM, this will help you take out enemies before they can disarm it.

* Grenades - I only figured this out last night but the grenades behave quite differently in BC2 than BF2. They have a much flatter and longer trajectory and bounce further. I have found that previously when I threw a grenade it would go past my intended target, I now know you need to aim closer than you would have in BF2

* Tanks - This might change and it is only applicable to open play but it seems that most people when in Armour, they have blinkers on, it is relatively easy to plant C4 and hardly anyone looks out for mines, so do be afaid to take on Armour if you are a recon and lay down mines as much as you can. In some cases, especially if the Armour has a repair guy, it is more effective than shooting at it with a Rocket

* I cannot stress the importance of sticking together as a squad. I still find myself going rambo sometimes BUT I always regret it. Whether in clannies or open servers get into a squad and stick together. Ideal squads (varying for different situations) would be 1 Recon, 1 Medic, 2 X Assault or 1 Assault and 1 Engineer

*Spot!!!!!!! This is along the same lines as the Sensor, if you see a bad guy, spot him, he may try hide behind a tree or wooden fences but if he is spotted you or your teammates can still see him and take him out. This is also important so the Armour and chopper guys can see the targets. I don't know about you guys but when I get into Armour my "vision" is not as clear, so I depend quite a bit on the red dots

get talented, spot while you are shooting, it's not that difficult and its extremely useful if you get mowed down whilst engaging.

Nice thread idea Paul.

Revisiting some of your tips and posting some new ones.

Motion sensors. I never knew an ammo pack could replenish these, but they are so crucially important. Because spotting is gimped in BC2 (see next tip), motion sensors are THE most effective way of seeing enemy on the map. These need to spammed whenever possible and are great for monitoring MCOMs as well as multiple bottlenecks.

Spotting. This can't be spammed anymore and has a sort of cooldown (i think it is 3 spots or "Q" keypresses every 10 seconds, will need to test). In BF2, I spammed spot ALL the time as it was a great way of spotting enemies that you couldn't necessarily see. In BC2, don't "waste" your spots, because even if there is an enemy in site, and you have used your "spots", you won't be able to actually spot the enemy and put them on the minimap. I would say don't spam it. If you wish to hazard a guess, press Q ONCE, because you never know when you'll get a surprise enemy pop up somewhere. When I see an enemy, I do the following.
1. See an enemy
2. While getting my bead/red-dot/scope on them, i'll press Q ONCE.
3. Begin firing (more on this later).
4. If target survives and manages to run around a corner, whilst reloading/finding cover, press Q again to try spot.
This all happens in like 1 second, but I have found it to be useful as even if I don't kill my target, often I can see where they are going and judge what they are doing by the direction of their triangle on the minimap (triangle "facing" cover = waiting for me. triangle "facing away and moving = running for cover)

Destruction Ver.2
Blow everything up when unsure of a situation. The fact that you can means you should. This is especially true on defense and maybe not so much on offense (except for collapsing a building on the MCom). You'll often see me mow down trees when gunning in the tank. The assault guys need to blow as many walls away as possible as they are all cover and hide defenders.

Will post more as they come along.

MCOM's

- Mega and I found out the arming a MCOM is useless it alerts the enemy to your presence.
- 2 x Assault or Recon with extended C4 plant and b00m.

This takes the MCOM down I think arming should be our last resort.

However this heavily relies on a protective squad making sure the planters can lay C4 down without to much fear of death. It could be completed in two configurations.

1 x Plant and other watches over till completed rinse and repeat. (If both players go down it's up to the remaining squdies to nade the point to set the C4 off.

2 x plant and other squadies provide over-watch this is more risky but could be quicker as the enemy will have no time to respond with the above configuration.

WRT using c4 on Comm stations - I did a little test(ifying) last night, and there are particular Comm sites within buildings that can be destroyed, simultaneously taking out the target site. On these particular sites, 6 x c4 can be used to demolish the building, provided they are planted on key structural walls. Quicker than putting the 10 x high explosive c4 lumps on the site to destroy it directly. It's worth noting which maps have such sites and where to put the lumps - I'll do some more researching and post the findings here.

From what I've noticed in game, if there are two ammo box's lying close to me, I can almost constantly spam toobs/nades. Three and I don't have to stop at all.

So for instance if we defending and you see an ammo box next to you already, throw your own one down as well.

I'm wondering if this works for medipacks as well, to increase the healing rate.

*Anti-take mines! I've found at choke points, they are invaluable. Most useful on defense.

Its not something I know for a fact but I suspect that the more people arming/disarming at the same time, the faster it goes?

It might be the case, yes.

I've also noticed that if I've armed a site and run for cover. The enemy manage to disarm... Then, when I go in and arm again (without dying since my first arming), it takes a fraction of a second to arm the site. I just run up, click the arm button, and its armed.

Not sure if there are any other contributing factors involved, but this has happened a few times already.
