BC2 Clan Server

Hey gang!!

Whilst swearing through all the issues that we had last night, I came to a decision. I don’t want to rely on other server availability in order for us to practice. Granted last night was particularly bad because a number of SGS servers were down (not to mention the lag on the servers that were running), but that doesn’t change the fact that the best we have ever done as a competitive clan was when we had our own server to practice on.

With that in mind, I have spoken with a couple of other members (Lee and Daz at this stage), and between us we have agreed to front the cash to get an initial server setup for us at HypeGames, complete with the first month’s rental.

Obviously I don’t want the three of us to pay the rental indefinitely, so as before I’m going to ask for those of us who can afford to contribute towards the cost to do so. Monthly rental is actually quite reasonable, at R650 per month for a 16 player server, so R50 from every member would more than cover the total cost.

I know that not all of us can afford to contribute, and therefore want to stress that any contributions made are strictly voluntarily. I’d also encourage people with the means to put in a little more, any and all funds that are raised will be used strictly for grrr interests. In the past we’ve used monies raised to get clan members up to rAge, subsidised accommodation, and bought T-shirts and other merchandise. I personally will continue to contribute R200 a month to the fund.

As far as logistics go, I will get a bank account set up specifically for grrr, although it will be linked to my personal accounts. If anyone in the clan has any reservations about me having access to clan funds, then of course we can look to make another arrangement, so please let your concerns be known. I am simply suggesting this as an option because I can get the account set up in a matter of minutes with a phone call to my banker.

As soon as we have consensus on how the grrr slush fund should be managed, we can put things into action. If I’m going to run it, I’ll setup an account and let you all know the details for your deposits. I’ll also setup a monthly stop order for payment to HypeGamez. I’ll also produce monthly statements (as Jason used to do) so that we can all see the financial health of the fund.

In the interim, I have made a personal payment to HypeGamez of R900. R650 of this is for the first month’s rental, the remaining R250 is a once off setup cost. Wayne at HypeGamez has committed to having the server running within 48 hours (unfortunately they don’t configure servers over weekends), so it will be up and running by Tuesday at the latest. Wayne is hoping however, to have it available for us by the end of the day today – there are no promises around this however.

Effectively, we can start arranging praccies from Tuesday night. I have asked Wayne to give me a list of Admin tools that are available for BC2, so that I can get familiar with them prior to launch. I will also arrange for Admin access for all of our clan admins (Lee, Shadey and Odi), as well as Mr Mega. If anyone else wants admin rights, it can be arranged, but I’d like to keep the number of admins down if possible.

The server will of course be ranked, and as such anyone can play on it at any time. When we have a clan practice or match scheduled, we will have to remove ranked status. We will however in the terms and conditions of server usage state that if the server is full and a grrr clan member wants to join, a non-member may be asked to leave.

The server name is to be listed as ‘GRRR Squad BC2 Ranked Server’.

Now you may be thinking ‘What about Digital Life? Surely we should be pushing them to pay for this.’ The answer is that we will try and get them to contribute to our server hosting costs, but I’m not prepared to wait for them to arrange a deal before getting us up and running. The league starts in a week and a half, and I want grrr to be competitive by then!! Maybe at a later stage DL come to the party and we rename the server to give them kudos, but for now it’s as it always was.

Awesome, dude, proactive comes to mind!! I will be to contribute R50 a month to the fund and not only do I not mind you being incharge of the monies, I think you are the best person for the job. All the others will spend the cash on Animal Porn or something

Excellent - Thanks Drag's. Not sure about you guys but i was sooooo hacked off last night. I got "permission" to play and ended up spending most of the time refreshing the server screen trying to join you guys. I am in with the payments, and holding fingers crossed that it is up and running tonight - Y - COZ its my game night tonight nyx:

I'll contribute as soon as I get the details.
As for the contributions, even when DL come on board, I think its a good idea for each clan member to contribute the R50 where possible. Extra money in the kitty is always a good thing. This is a good example of when some extra cash in the kitty would be useful.

As Paul said, I can't think of anyone better to handle the cash. My vote is with Jarrod managing the account (for as long as he's willing to).

Well, given that I haven't heard anything further from Wayne, I guess we won't have our server this weekend. Let's hope for Monday, so that we can arrange a prac for Monday night...
