Name: Sheri Buchner
Age: 33
Gender: Female
City: Kempton Park
Alter Ego and why I chose this nickname: NiteShade - I like how it is ambiguous and "unisex" - it's not obviously male or female. With my being Gemini, I chose it for two reasons: 1. "Nightshade" as in the plant... it's deadly! Just like me when I'm playing online. ;) 2. "Night Ghost" - for it being supernatural sounding and interesting.
Marital status: Married, no kids.
Gaming history: All my life! I started out with board games and card games. I then moved onto console games. Finally, I graduated to PC Gaming and haven't looked back since! My first PC game was Neverwinter Nights (my first love is RPG's)! The first game I played online was Battlefield 2.
My Digital Life: I could not imagine life without my digital toys! Both my husband and I have performance gaming PCs. We also own cellphones, DVD with a surround system, DSTV and a digital camera.
Why I am so happy to be part of this: I came out of the 'gaming closet' about 4 years ago and was quite surprised at the positive reactions I received. I think most people have misconceptions about gamers and PC gaming in general. This is a great opportunity to reach out to other people and let them see the hobby that I absolutely love.

I did send this pic to Fly over the weekend....

Will look to see if I can find a betterer one.

Name: Jono Wickwar

Age: 31

Gender: Male

City: Cape Town

Online: s3xy_j0nny

Marital Status: Single (*gasp! A 31 yr old gamer who's single?!)

Gaming history: I was introduced to PC gaming back in the mid 80s. Think ZX Spectrums, Commodore 64's, Amstrad 128k's, loading games by playing casette tapes etc. From there I graduated to consoles like the Nintendo 64 & original Playstation, as well as some bigger and better, more modern PC's. I reckon I could call myself a gamer since those early days, but for me, competitive/online gaming really started in 2005/6 with Battlefield 2. (I was, however, totally addicted to gaming long before I got to play online). Co-founder of clan [grrr] with Megageth & Leelo. Clan Leader 2008.

My Digital Life: I work as a casting director and castings editor, so with regards to work, my digital environment is pretty much all-encompassing, in terms of cameras (video & stills) & editing hardware and software. The fact that I'm an online games fanatic in my spare time means that I spend about 60% of my waking life in front of a pc (and probably 10% on my motorbike). I'm not an IT whizz by any means, but I do use and vaguely understand quite a lot of digital gismos.

Why I am so happy to be part of this: Since the very early days of our clan (ok, not the first year when there was just Geth and I), I felt that there was just too much potential within our combined membership for us to remain solely a gaming clan. The talent that lies within [grrr] has been waiting for a channel like this through which to express itself for more than 3 years. I believe with some backing and sponsorship, we can influence gaming on a national scale and grow the clan into a recognisable brand, at the same time making online gaming a more accepted and understood aspect of everyday people's digital lives.

Marital Status: Single ( Current girlfriend is 26yrs. )

Gaming history: PC gaming rocks. I am the best/least modest gamer ever! Ya right!!!! A legend in my own mind!!! Competitive/online gaming really started for me in 2006 with Battlefield 2. Now Command and Conquer and most strategy games catches my eye! But is willing to give almost all new game a go! Who knows I might like them? Team-play is the difference between a good game and a GREAT game! Grrr is by far the best clan for fun and Lekker game-play! 2008 I joind Grrr ( Gaming has been a hoot ever since! )

My Life: I work as sales person! Hours are not great but the pay is OK!

My Digital Life: A balanced life is what makes the brain stay in shape! I play games till the small hours of the morning. But that is not all. Going to the gym is a big part of my day! And staying in shape makes me feel good.... And what can i say, I look good too. I have ok PC for gaming, cellphones, digital camera, Laptop.

Why I am so happy to be a part of this! SA gaming is getting bigger by the day! And we as Grrr members can do our bit to underline the fact that not all gamers are teens with no lives and nothing better to do! Even with work and families and real live we still enjoy good times in front of the PC! Lasting friendships and memories are made on a daily basis. Bring it on!

Name: Lawrence McKelvin
Age: 32
Nick: Gravity
Gaming History: I started my fascination for gaming from the days of the first video arcades that were common in the corner cafe's. Space invaders and racing games. The problem was when getting high scores, we only had 3 letters to put a name in. I used LAW (first 3 letters of my name). Problem came in when playing online and other gamers had the nick "Law". I figured I had to move on... I chose the first law I could think of.

Dependents: 1 daughter, 8 yrs old.

My Digital Life: I've always had to upgrade to the current game minimum specs to play. I'm the guy that checks the back of each game to see if my pc can run it before buying. My current pc... Quad Core, G250, 2gb Ram, Win XP

Games: I prefer multiplayer to single player games. First games I got interested in were simulators; starting with flight simulators, moved on to car simulators and submarine simulators (yes, SUBMARINES! it's so much cooler than you'd think). Finally, I was dragged into First Person Shooter games (like Battlefield) by friends that I made from Simulator games.

Achievements: Multiple SARL (National South African Racing League) champion. 3-star General (>200k points) BF2

ARG, I totally forgot to do this... Sorry!! Will upload a mugshot later today if thats ok? (i can make a plan now if its urgent urgent...)

Real name: Johnny Romanos

Occupation: Cellphone banking specialist

Age: 24

Alter Ego: Phatso

Reflection of size? : Absolutely not. An explanation can be found when looking at an urban-dictionary. The word "phat" is actually an acronym for "pretty hot and tempting". I really like the way it sounded, it was unique and also was a fun way to mislead fellow gamers. Its always interesting meeting people for the first time and them going "WOW, you're not fat! You're actually in shape!" and replying "It stands for pretty hot and tempting.. how you doing? ;) ". HAHA!

Status : Long term relationship, not single to mingle.. Sorry ladies.

Gaming career: (as brief as it can be) Started at the tender age of about 7 playing California Games on a PC. I then managed to get myself an original "TV-games" (NES) console from a distant relative. That unlocked the beast. Beating all my family members at ANY game was one of the more fun parts of my Sunday family gatherings. PC's got better, so did consoles. Got myself a Playstation 1 (eventually a PS2) and a few of the older Tekken titles, but my allegiance still stuck with the good old PC. Duke Nukem 3D and Quake I were the real gems. My first lanning experiences were with these games and so the competitive gaming spirit was once again awakened. As time passed, my taste in RPG's was aroused by the legendary Diablo. The amount of time spent on that game alone... Diablo II was a natural progression, but all the way through, I still craved FPS games. Then Battlefield 2 happened. It will forever be a part of my life as it was my first taste of real "online gaming" and competitions. rAge's BF2 comps saw me compete at various levels with various teams. I now play a bit of World of Warcraft on the side (don't hate) and primarily the recently released Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Top gaming achievement: The highlight of my gaming career was at 2006's rAge Battlefield 2 competition. This was the first serious Battlefield 2 competition in South Africa. I played for team ASF (Advanced Special Forces). Despite nursing a massive headache from the night before, we managed to progress quite well on Day 1 and made it through to the finals. With a crowd of roughly 100+ gamers watching the game closely, the atmosphere was intense! Every move made was crucial. We won the tournament! This resulted in a huge roar from my side and a massive cheer from the entire crowd. I was in love with gaming. This was a monumental moment as not only was I doing what I loved, but i was succeeding at it and winning a (pretty decent) prize for it too! From there I have thoroughly enjoyed every rAge as a time to meet with like minded individuals who know the balance between real life and online.. and know how to have to have a good time!

My Digital Life: I am a quite a gadget junky but do prefer the "staples" if you can call them that. My work relies on me having a technical background and following cellphone trends closely. I own a Blackberry Bold 9000 as a primary phone and an iPhone 3Gs as a secondary. Although now retired and gathering dust, I have a NES, a Gameboy and a Playstation 1 and 2. I have a Dell laptop which I use for a work and a Gaming PC which I use for everything else (gaming/music/dvd player etc).

Why I am so happy to be part of this: These are such exciting times to be a gamer in South Africa. I am really looking forward to completely dispelling the "stereotypical gamer" image and replacing it with an image of team that maintains the balance between personal life and gaming, competitive or casual. There has been a boom recently on gaming itself and this could only strengthen it. With an awesome group of people and some innovative backing, we can take SA gaming where it needs to be, the top!

(*EDIT : Pic attached.. Had to chop-shop a photo as most of them are posing/f*ck drunk/honeys in the photo)

Name: Gethyn Gilmour

Age: 34

Gender: Male

City: Cape Town

Online: Megageth

Marital Status
: Single (GF)

Gaming history
: I jealously tried friends' Spectrums as a kid, first console was a Nintendo 64, Supermario style. First rig cost 10K and included, state of the art, 17" CRT, Radeon 7000 and the newly released Win XP. Played regular small LANs on that, Warcraft, UT2003, COD(1) etc. First major online game was BF2. Convinced my digs mates to install ADSL to keep my addiction going and got them gaming too, particularly s3xy_j0nny. The 2 of us clocked in many hours (think in terms of weeks or months actually) and eventually we came to the conclusion that all that was needed to start a clan was to throw a tag in front of your name. We chose [grrr] and somehow the clan grew. No idea how, but I am very grateful that it did, many of my current friends are suckers people that joined the clan.

My Digital Life
: I have built quite a few gaming pc's, not because I am especially knowledgeable but because I knew more than my friends at the time. I travel a lot and the following always go into my hand luggage; laptop, 500Gb external HD, PSP, iPod and Canon happy snapper. My laptop + external HD have saved me from going further off the edge, sitting in hotels and airports. At home I spend my hours with 'The Beast' - my gaming PC that I upgrade/overhaul/overclock when funds allow.

Why I am so happy to be part of this
: I get the feeling that PC Gaming will continue to grow rapidly in South Africa. ADSL is coming down in price and more people feel confident enough to handle the patch/update/driver problems that in the past have made PC Gaming more inaccessible that consoles. I am hoping that our clan will be able to contribute to and help grow gaming in SA.
