DGL CS - GO (Glock Blockers)
Last night the Glock Blockers took the second last step to securing 4th place in Group A Open division, by convincingly dominating vKr 16-4 on Cobblestone (their map) and 16-8 on Dust2 (our map).
The team was locked and loaded with 6 players eager to play. Grant being the bigger man elected to be no standby, with Grrr fielding a formidable team even in the absence of our Lurker. Powder, Giftig, Kill_inc, Russian and NoMaD.
On our Knife round before choosing maps, we saw a ferocious team spirit in the dash down Long A on dust2, as we rounded the corner, knives out and bloodlust in full swing, the usual cautious standoff strategy goes out the window. As soon as the first slash is seen and heard the blood is in the water and the frenzy starts. With every time the cold hard steal encountered fleshy pixels the initial aggressor would pull back, his place taken by a fresh grrrbian eager to show his metal. With most of the opposing team down, Giftig gets the last 2 kills to set us up to choose sides, allowing vKr to chose map first.
Carrying through with the momentum gained by the knife round, we proceeded to dash out the gate for holding spots on CT on cobblestone. With the critical spot being Dropdown on B site, we stacked myself and Kill there with Russian holding long B. No sooner than hearing Kill_inc shreak that the enemy was upon him, did we start seeing the kill notifications, followed by "you shall not pass!". With the team in high spirits we set out to get a foothold in the game. After a resounding beat down at Kill_incs hands, vKr decided to try their luck at A site... Little did they know, they would get none. Staring down the hawk eyes of Giftig they were brutally demolished... With one man remaining, our capitan powder called for everyone to pull back and leave the 5th kill to Giftig in order for him to get his Ace. With bloodlust at its peak, Giftig cleaned out the 5th to rapturous laughter and congratulations.
At this point we felt confident in knowing it was just a formality to finish the map.
With Dust2 imminent, and it being a popular map, we knew we would encounter more resistance. This however did not slow the momentum after winning the knife round the brutal assault continued until we secured the final round and the match!
Now with our final match of the winter leg this week, we find ourselves in 4th place. After just 8 months of playing together I can't hold back the sense of pride I have for the team and what we have accomplished. We all understand that we are far off the big boys in CS, but seeing the leaps we have taken, I am confident that the only way forward is up!
