Reserved slots for our BF4 server - POLL

Post by Phatso »

Should we have reserved slots for ALL [grrr] clan members?

We can work out the semantics but I imagine the last joining player will be kicked for a [grrr] member with a message.
- this also means that a [grrr] member will not be able to be kicked, should they be the last joined player.

Can we in the meantime investigate how Procon does this please. Will run the vote for a couple of days.

Please let it be known, this decision wasn't made as a veto decision and its a good idea that the clan as a whole decide.

My 2 cents, I would much rather have the commander slots open. We are missing a great deal from not having commanders enabled on the server. Gunships, missiles, UAV's, anti-UAV's, squad promotions, supply drops, etc.

Um lets just be clear here.

I don't think we should have reserved slots.
By definition reserved slots would mean a permanent 20 slots allocated to grrr players so other guys cant join.

What we can have rather is for if a grr player want to join we can kick a play to make room.

Corrected the wording QB, thanks.

@Denis, I believe the guys are working on getting this enabled, but this is not the thread for it ;)

Its simple guys, there has been mass debate (hehe) over kicking players off our BF4 server for [grrr] members and some people have felt its completely not on. Sorry we went ahead and made this decision without the vote, but here is your chance to have your say.

How I see it working is if an admin is on TS and a [grrr] member wants on, he will need to tell the admin so the admin can kick the most recently joined player (you can sort by this in Procon yes? or check the logs?). This is the only way AFAIK as setting reserved slots means we lose overall player count (as QB said).

Ok now I am confused, does yes mean "We reserve slots" or does yes mean "Admin kicks last player when Grrr member asks"

My definition is the latter so I voted yes

the only problem i see with kicking people as a member wants to join is that, if said member is 6th in queue we would have to effectively kick 6 people from the server so that 1 person can join.

are we sure that reserved slots cannot be taking by non members until a member wants to join, in which case the server will kick the last person that join?

Does anyone know how to identify the last person who joined? From my experience you can't do that without a plugin or unless you track the connected/disconnected in chat manually. I'm just worried with all the crashing and what not we will be kicking a lot of people and I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of that as a player - I'd just play somewhere else where my game is not interrupted by grrrs.

See it's not just make me a spot thats a problem, it's then oh I want to be on that side with this squad etc. etc.

My understanding of reserved slots is that that slot is kept aside until a grrr joins. We can test it but I have a feeling that is how it works. If we reserve everyone a spot there's very little space for others. I'm more worried about the commander situation. I made sure we had enough slots for it and tested it, it worked. But now we can't seem to free up the commander slots?

Admins are there to ensure a good playing experience and to keep the server as full as possible, the less they're noticed the better they are IMO. I've never waited more than 5 min to join the grrr server so to me it's a non-issue.

BY THE WAY! Commanders now work - turns out it was the domination maps in the list that threw it out.

As this vote is actually literally neck and neck, please could everyone who has an opinion post their thoughts in this thread. We have to thrash this out to the nth degree.

Everyone must state their thoughts here guys and we need to come to some kind of an understanding because its seems like there is nearly no way we can make everyone happy here. Even if it means copy pasting your post from the other thread.

What I thought was that there is a "reserved list" type plugin for Procon that we add our nicknames to. This then bypasses the queue for the server so at least we don't mess that up. Dryman raises a valid point though - if it kicks all players in the queue as well as the last to join, that pisses off more than 1 person and is just not cool.

Please can someone who has Procon access have a look at the "reserved spots" thing. I can remember seeing it somehow. I don't have my PC with me where I am staying so I don't have Procon when I get "home" later..

Get debating.

Here are my thoughts on why we should have some kind of reserved slot/kicking for Members on our server

1. Even though we want to increase our rep in the community it is after all our server paid for by our members
2. We need to play together and having the clan split up across different servers will do nothing for team cohesion and for our future efforts in the league
3. This is already a common practise amongst other clans, only clans with multiple clan servers like BMW don't do this but that is because of their increased capacity

The number of people that will get annoy and not return to our server because they were kicked IMO will be negligible. As long as we word the message right there should be no problem

Ok this is my take on it,

Yes we(grrr members) all want to play on our own server, but the queue is always 2 - 5 people long, and like Jarrod said he doesn't even bother to join.

We don't want to kick guys for the sake of kicking to make space (high pingers only), but playing with your clan-mates is what it's all about, so what I do is by joining any other game and Alt + Tab out once loaded, click on join "Grrr server" and carry on playing, by doing this I still play, talk kuk on TS and by the time a slot comes available I join in on the grrr server. The max you'll wait is for the current round to finish.

Now some of you would only want to play 1 or 2 games, but think that to kick players will not go down well...., what I would like to see is the commander spot and belief its working now, anyone tested this???
