New Headset VERY URGENT

Post by Paul »

OK it has become abundantly clear I need new head sets. My mic is all but fucked, even though I am screaming at you guys on TS you can't hear me most of the time and my right speaker is very crackly and unclear.

I currently have Roccat Kave's and they were good for 2 year but then fucked up. I expected them to last longer considering they were R900 and Roccat make good stuff.

I now need advice on what new set to get, here are my constraints

* R1000 absolute max I can spend
* I don't have a fancy sound card just a plain Supreme X-fi that came with my mobo
* I don't mind stereo or 5.1

So any suggestions? I need to make a decision ASAP so I can get them next week some time

Well, now and again i still use my headset. Not headset as in all in one but a pair of Sennheisers HD202's and a Zalman clip-on mic. I think Eggy still has this setup as well. Nice studio quality headphones at R350 odd. Mic is like R50 last i remember.

I am also looking at a new pair of headset. My Corsair H1 finally decided to die on me. I think the cable which enters the earpiece is a bit wonky and as such not great. I bought them either at last year's rAge, or the event before last year and I must admit I was very pleased with them.

Paul, I am currently considering this set here:
http://www.corsair.com/en/pc-computer-audio/gaming-headsets/vengeance-2100-dolby-7-1-wireless-gaming-headset.html

but I am not sure how the wireless will work. They seem to be using decent technology in that regard so quess it should be ok.

I am in the same boat that I need to get a replacement, or at least just an el-cheopo mic, so if anybody have advise here, please let us have it. Currently I am using these earphones: http://www.trustedreviews.com/beats-studio_Headphones_review with my corsair MIC still plugged in. These earphones are very good but may be a bit more than the R1000 budget you have. (as mentioned, I may just keep the Dr Dre's and just get an el-cheopo mic)

Jarrod / Paul, I've read the shout box about me selilng my pair to Paul, the pair yuo are talking about is the one mentioned above so no good sorry.

I've tried the Corsair 1400 before. Sound is nowhere near the same quality as the HD202's. But if function is more your thing, and you obviously like the cloth feel as well, go right ahead.

you clip the mic on the cord, you dont even know its there. As Eggy said, quality on the 202's are awesome.

Which reminds me, i need new ear pads. Dante, where did you get your replacements?

I use a clip on mic with my Senny HD555's. It works pretty well, AFAIK no-one has problems hearing me in TS(?). However, I do find having two cables to be a bit of a pain in the arse. I've taped the two wires together, but it gets quite annoying and stiff.

Given the choice I'd get a proper headset, but with my 555's it would be quite an expensive replacement to get the same quality audio (PC360's are what I'd go for).

In the last 6 years for gaming the most expensive headset I bought was about R250 I think, so for me its about just hearing the ingame sounds and what is going on around me., would love a decent pair, but will wait for my current cheappy to fail on me.
