We can all agree that premier division was not a pleasant experience but it is over. There might be a play off but fuck who actually cares it will mean nothing because BF4 is just around the corner.
When BF4 is released I am sure a lot of grrrbians will come back to BF and play competitively. The first BF4 league will more than likely only start next year in late Jan/Early Feb.
I think we have enough talent to be at the least a strong 1st Division side. Before the end of the year I think we need to get the following bedded down.
* Number of players who want to play competitively FOR THE WHOLE YEAR
* Number of Teams we will enter into DGL
* How the teams will be selected
* How prac will work etc
The most difficult part I think is that we have A LOT of bad habits, Like I mean A LOT and just practising like we have just re-enforced those bad habits. We need to approach BF4 completely differently and that is why I think the following will be of utmost importance.
* Leadership needs to change - Us old boys have had our turn even some glory but we need new blood to take the reigns
* Pickup Games - I think this is a must, playing with other players from other clans helps keep us up to date and learning
* Pub Play - Right from the get go we need to stack, I am not talking all Grrr on one side but we need to play together on Pubs. 2 hours of prac on our server a week will not make us gel
So use this thread to put down your ideas and lets come up with a plan for BF4 so that we can have fun but still be competitive
It is over!!! Now time for Battlefield 4
Not sure is a change of leadership is required... but opening the floor to suggestions and ideas from all, but we still need to have those heads of state to run the show during league games.
I see the key as playing Pub games as if it were playing a league games...
If there are 4 Grrrbians on a pub server, they should be on the same side and in the same squad, and play seriously (without ever losing the fun side of it all)
(An additional 4 Grrrbians can do the same on the other side - so we don't get moaned at for stacking)
But... Remember what we are aiming for:
- Too lax and we get owned by everyone
- Too Strict and we become FIB / VVB (of old) [And no-one wants to be them]

Exactly, the reason why I said change of leadership is because of the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I really think it is important to assign partners to stick to. When they play pubs they stick together each and everytime they play. We dont know how to anticipate our clan mates movements and approaches with out having to relay it over mumble. We need to get this smooth with out having to waste time in a clan match trying to get our message out. Ofcourse we still need to communicate but things need to happen faster and seamless.

Good call Paul.
I will most certainly be playing again and competitively in BF4. BF3 just got stale for me and not being able to invest time in it was frustrating.

On that note, it’s important to remember that if we are good, we enjoy playing more and vice versa but that being said we still need to remember the enjoyment part.
I don’t want us having the exact same scenario as the 2012/2013 season where all we did was focus on drills and practice and invest more time and more time and more time.. We lost the plot and due to lack of enjoyment, lost a lot of soldiers and team cohesion.
Also remember that once BF4 is launched, there are going to be HEAPS of teething issues for everyone playing the game. Learning the mechanics, recoil, weapon damage, accuracy changes while moving etc etc. While I imaging a lot of BF3 stuff will stick, there are going to be a lot of changes to the core gameplay and gunplay. We MUST have a running sticky thread for when people learn things. Things that we don’t share with anyone else but that you have discovered while playing.
Don’t want to sound like an arrogant toss, but the reason why (I thought…) I could smash in BF2 was because of dedication to learning of mechanics. I knew that post dolphin diving, the amount of time for the AK101 crosshair to “zero in” was 0.8 seconds, but post crouch was 0.5 seconds and if you crouched post dolphin dive you could shave 0.2 seconds off the time. Throwing a grenade had this exact arc if you jumped and released at the apex. Med packs would travel in this arc. Pistol damage was 34 damage per shot on the body and 2 headshots to kill. Fucksake, attack helo spawned at 120s on Oilfields but 100s on Dragon Valley.
THAT is the difference. We can all shoot. If you learn 1 mechanic inside out you have the upper hand, learn all of them and get your muscle memory in tune and see what happens.
With my allowed gaming time changing up since moving in with the fiancé, I am going to make the following changes:
· Only play BF4 as my FPS.
· Only research BF4.
· Only watch BF4 videos.
I suspect I will burn out after a year of that, but if this game holds my interest (which I am sure it will), this is how I will learn. Sometimes practice is difficult because its hard to shut out the world for 2 hours, but pub play is cool cos even when you jam for 30m now and then again later, and then again later, it helps.
I do this for too many FPS’ and it blurs the lines a bit. At the moment, CSGO, DayZ, BL2, BF3, ArmA3, Chivalry.. they all have different mechanics and it effs up your muscle memory. I WILL FOCUS.
TLDR: You are either pro or noob, thats life. We have an opportunity here. When BF4 releases, we are on equal footing with everyone. Obviously guys with good aim are good, but learn more faster than them and 100 hours a week means nothing.

<<WARNING RANDOM DERAIL>>
I've been playing a lot of cooperative games and I must say, I am converted to the idea that uber competitiveness is just a waste of energy unless you have tier one talent playing around the clock. I'm quite keen to play BF4 but I'm not sure about the competitive side just yet. When I joined grrr we spent a lot of time just owning on the BC2 pub servers. I was happy with that then and I think I'd be happy with something similar going forward.
Maybe we should use the connections we have in the League to set up games with teams and get our competitive on, but not be bound into this League. It's way too long, requires way too much time from everyone and doesn't yield much benefit apart from bragging rights. Sure it's nice to be able to say "we're in Prem" but how much value is that really and is it worth it? In the main I think the answer is no, but how else do we stay relevant as a clan?
We spoke a lot about a grrr vision and how we're going to try get the BF community into a healthier state and bring back those glory days the community has lost. Maybe that should be our focus going forward, making cool community events and arranging the odd competitive game under our own ruleset. The old me would have said it's a cop out but I dunno, I think it's something we could all sink our teeth into and still remain relevant as a clan.
Of course we can't just go on a heading without any sort of idea what we're going to do so I will think on such and hopefully post a few ideas to discuss. The other big issues include how receptive the community would be to a direction like that and how geared are we to serving their needs. I think there is a lot of scope for the competitive but casual player in the community and the DGL just doesn't cater to that at all - it's winner takes all and let's face it, run by a bunch of bell ends (Tyger included
).
I dunno, I think an alternative competitive environment where time invested is not everything would be attractive to lots of players looking for a good laugh on a Wednesday night for example. A lot of it will depend on what kind of infrastructure BF4 give the community. Will there be a battlecorder? What server options will there be? Will modding be possible? All the kinds of things will influence how much we can do to make an alternative option for Battlefield players.
For example, we spoke about hosting friendly games with other teams for more than 8 players. Getting the entire suite of weapons and vehicles involved and perhaps playing a few different game modes or game sizes to spice things up. That never got off the ground because we always had a match to prepare for and could hardly fit such things into our schedules. That will be a hurdle for lots of teams initially, but I think if the alternative is good enough lots of guys will retire from DGL.
Unknown quantities have set up public servers and made a name for themselves in the community, be it good or bad. So the challenge does involve some real world money and effort to get an "alternative" to DGL and we need to feel out what is possible on our end. We saw how the pickup games really got a lot of attention and then just died off as guys got sick of playing 7 days a week. What a great idea that could be revived casually and cement grrr's alternative brand.
In direct response to Paul's post, I think a leadership change is necessary. Not because the leaders are bad but just because I think it's healthy to start on a clean slate and get some renewed momentum. Tyger won't tell you, but I think he is tired. Managing grrrs is not easy and I think he will welcome the opportunity to relax a bit. Sure Tyger likes to shout and bitch and moan - but I was the same and I think anyone in that position would struggle to keep it together even 50%.
It's extremely frustrating trying to keep the expectations of players met whilst trying to give them leeway to have lives. In fact it's near impossibru. Just my 2c after being away for some time. TLDR? Maybe DGL is not the answer. GIF! http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/didnt-read-lol.gif
