The Vision of [grrr]Squad 2012/13
Introduction
Hi Guys, welcome to the dawn of the new era. I will attempt (no promises) to make this brief and easy enough to read. I’ll start with my vision and then move on to the structures and finish off with some tomato soup. So without further ado, WALL OF TEXT ALERT, let’s get this handover thing done.
Acknowledgements
So first off, the acknowledgements. Let me start by thanking Paul for the great leadership role. Somehow you managed to deliver on the promise of making it to R4ge2012 (as seen from your speech in the GRRR4ge2011 video), which is actually quite an achievement. It took time, patience and a lot of effort from the Team Captain, Hubris, who stepped up to the plate. Hubris was initially hesitant in taking on this role, but managed to get to grips with it and proved to us and I think himself that he is an excellent leader and really good at managing egos and took us to the next level. Many thanks also to Tyger who provided the secondary in charge efforts, his sometimes loud, but passionate involvement in our Team help guide us from nowhere to somewhere. To all the Team members, including Mark and Onny who ended up sidelined for R4ge comp, we thank you for enduring the LONG never-ending season of competitive gaming. I know personally it took its toll, as I’m sure it did for most others. We all know we could have performed much better than we did at R4ge, but honestly 0 Fucks should be given to this sentiment, why? Because we achieved what we set out to do and essentially got 8 free tickets to our annual get-together. Most importantly I think, and this is what ties into my vision for the year, is that we maintained our X-Factor Clan status. We stayed competitive enough to get to the Top Tier and compete in the Cream-O-The-Crop Competition, thats nothing to smirk at when you look at the volume of Teams having competed over this year, yet weren’t dicks about it. We arrived with our Cocky Coolness attitude, lost all our games and left with the same attitude, supported the teams still in it, shook hands, smiles and showed our strength in character.
The Vision of 2012/13
So this brings me on to the Vision. Let me start out by stating what I think is the obvious, we’re not the Super-Serious-about-winning clan, like 90% of Clans out there. Whilst there certainly is a good place for it, I almost find it depressing that the model of Competitive Gaming is do or die, winner takes all, win at all costs, yadda yadda. This certainly is the model that sponsors, teams and associated games currently adhere to when it comes to gaming in this country. However, having looked at many successful unaffiliated gaming websites and companies, something is quite apparently lacking in this country, a niche if you will that we most definitely hold and that is the Gamer Lifestyle. Whist some of you would have heard/seen this before with (queue the Digital Life Magazine memories) [grrr]Squad, it’s never really taken off properly.
So why am WALL OF TEXTING this message? Well, this Gamer Lifestyle is something I want to promote, grow and turn into an out of control monster before the end of this year. I tried to get this going in my Leadership role, but we found ourselves in a hostile gaming environment back then, to much of a Fringe activity oh so many years ago, yet today Gaming is now mainstream and we are poised to take this animal by the horns and make something of it.
What does this actually mean to me(you) a valuable member of the illustrious [grrr]Squad?
Well, this year, I am going to put things in place, try to make things work, make changes and get this Digital Lifestyle thing going and broadcasting, we’ve already migrated to a great forum/CMS package that we can do many cool things with to make expressing ourselves easy. It may mean I ask you to use Twitter to tweet things about gaming sessions, Braais, Concert that you attend or Movies you go see and especially meeting Gamers anywhere at any place. We will try incentivise Article writing, I’m going to make every effort to improve the Look/Feel of the Article system, which personally I think lacks a bit of lustre as opposed to our forums. Little Video Clips, I will make a YouTube Channel for all of us that we can upload Video’s we film on our phone/devices. It’s these things that when pooled together help to express the Digital Lifestyle that I foresee us capitalizing on. There are sponsors out there that are not simply interested in Game Winners, but more interested in people using their products. That’s the market I think we can Capture, that’s my vision, it’s a big one and I’m going to need all the Help I can get.
Remember, that each little bit from each of you will help, a tweet, a video clip and Article. The more content we make, the better positioned we will be to get rewarded and these rewards are for us(that means you), not for just a team of 8. I’m passionate about this, always have been and Miles purdy much shares my vision in many ways(unconfirmed), from what I saw at r4ge, I want that boy onboard this powerboat.
**With that, as a side note, I will be withdrawing myself from any primary/1[SUP]st[/SUP] team competitive gaming, I need to focus all my efforts in making this work and work well. Much like Miles has been, I will be in full support of and at all events, practices and matches as possible, but I cannot commit to being in a primary competitive team. There are and will be far better players who can fill this role and perform much better than I can and ever will from this point on, I’ve earned a retirement if you will.
The New Look Team
OK, let’s leave it at that, I don’t want an unreadable wall of text.
So, let me announce some things, roles, people who I see as of right now doing it for [grrr]Squad.
All names put forward are blind, these candidates have a right to refuse and I’m sure there are others that could be invaluable to our cause, IOW – preliminary.
Also note – that new Roles and structures will be implemented as time goes on and new opportunities and challenges present themselves. If you feel you would like to contribute something/anything, feel free to voice your opinion, without you telling us, we will never know.
One LAST thing, is that I want us to have a weekly Staff (including founders too) Meeting on Mumble, say 8pm on Sundays – our good ol traditional Clannie time, to talk about our Clan, progress, lols, etc. This may be a 20 second meeting or it may go on for a while, but let’s start it now so that it becomes habit – whilst there may be nothing much to discuss now, it will help us in the long run.

Conclusion
So to conclude, this is set to be a grrrrrr34t year for [grrr]Squad, I can feel it in my bones. I hope to catch you all up in the excitement and get this ball rolling in a way never yet attempting in this country. The potential it has is mind-boggling, but we cannot do it without our members, so be there and be [grrr]Squad, cause that’s what we do best. RAWR ! ! !
