Baggers vs SiB Post-mortem

Post by Paul »

Here is the post mortem so the Nutz know what to expect against SiB and/or the maps

BATTLE REPORT: GRRR BAGGERS VS SiB (STRENGTH IN BROTHERHOOD)

Our first real win in the run up to the DGL, nice boys. Lets keep on building, we have some serious firepower to distribute. Some excellent rounds from our vanguard squad, we just seemed to lose too many tickets in the defence and tank squads. Otherwise good rounds from all, thanks for making the match happen guys. Won 243:149 (94 up). Despite having left practice to last minute again, we did well and gave the noobs a beating, but we left with a bloody nose.

Grand Bazaar: We started on the US side and had limited success with the strategy to hold both the outer flags. It worked at first, but whenever our APC went down that was null and void. Forced to adapt, we scrambled to mount an assault on B. Against all odds, we pulled back 100 tickets taking B and holding for the bleed with only 50 tickets. It was tight and real guts were shown. Probably the best way to play this map, take the outside flags all out, then take B for the bleed out while they recover.

The RU side didn't go well at all, we came out with the same strategy to hit B and they mauled us. Unfortunately we misread them and were short an engineer on the APC, theirs got the upper hand and we just couldn't seem to get a footing. Eventually loosing all our flags and only managing to cap back A at the end. We were disorganized and just couldn't seem to decide where to go, loosing horribly. We were definitely mismatched in terms of strategy throughout this side of Bazaar.

Seine Crossing: RU side, trying something new off the start, a mortar, we lost our tank in the initial engagement to an engineer above us. The mortar didn't seem to help much and we were critically short of Cronos' gun at the front line. We adapted well to the initial fail and held 2/4 for a good while. Eventually we mustered our forces, killed their tank and drove ourselves into the win. We bled a lot of tickets though and it was touch and go for a while there.

From the US side, we just dominated. We held our positions well, waited for opportune moments and really stuffed them up in every respect. They got more and more desperate, fielding many more engineers and suciding C4ing our tank. We just kept destroying their tank with our combined fire and they had nothing for a good half of the round. They rallied at the end and we almost lost our focus, but we managed to clean them up neatly shortly after.

GRAND BAZAAR: US WON 34:0

GRAND BAZAAR: RU LOST 0:149

SEINE CROSSING: RU WON 54:0

SEINE CROSSING: US WON 146:0

No fun and games photos tonight, these COD boys gave us a run and had some good skill despite losing. Luckily, years of BF experience managed to keep Grrr in the lead and ultimately won the match for us. A good match, these guys can play and we should look forward to whooping them again soon.

The above is Hubris's report on the Match

MY personal views are

Negatives
=========
* We didn't adapt well on Grand Bazaar. We mentioned this before but we need a Plan B or be able to adapt when our plans fail. That is key to winning
* The chatter on TS was a bit intense, it was mostly information being communicated but it seemed a bit panicked and frustrated. Remain calm

Positives
========
* This might contradict what I just said but I think we handled the pressure in the first two rounds of each map. We were behind, we remained calm, regrouped, discussed our next move and then went for it.
* Second round of Sienne, I don't think Hubris's report really underscores how well we played in that round. We were constantly losing and gaining flags but it was always on our terms and at no point in the match did I personally ever feel like they would be able to win. Other than dominating total noob teams that was absolutely clinical

Hooah, good games last night guys. My first moment of competitive BF3 where I felt that things just worked and I know how to play the damn game /blush

Bazaar
First round was very well played. We had an initial strat, that when didn’t work perfectly, was slightly adapted. We opted to push and put bodies on flag B with success. Flag B on Bazaar is a brute-force flag. The more bodies you have, the more likely you are to cap and then subsequently hold. Where we fell short I feel was that we knew from previous encounters that Flag “C” I think it was, is nigh impossible to attack due to roofs and too much cover being available for the defending team. Yet still, we tried our luck and threw many tickets away here.. Another thing, and I will point out a fault on my side, was that I was unprepared when the map started, where exactly to push the vodnik too. Sorry for that, but lets all make sure that we simply keep communicating what our opening move is, not only to remind the slackers (myself on this example) of whats what, but to reinforce it so that everyone knows exactly whats cutting on the opener. Another big complaint I had was with Round 2 being played VERY slack. We stopped calling for revives, announcing troop spots, and calling for reinforcement. I know I had a bit of a hissy fit regarding this on mumble, but as a medic, I can’t watch every soldier on our team, while watching their team. Let me know exactly when you go down and where and where you think it was from, with any other information. We pissed away massive loads of tickets because medics though the coast was clear, only for us to be rinsed repeatedly.

Seine
Great work on this map, the one round of 27 minutes was one of my fonder memories in gaming. Brilliant communications, spotting, coordination between infantry squads. I tip my hat to you guys on this map as we showed exactly what we are made of. I am happy to say that we know this map very well and it should be a benchmark for our knowledgebase of other maps. Calling things like “sneaky/bushy stairs” is critical to know exactly whats up. And in BF3, lacking a UAV (and now MAV), each soldier needs to be as informative as possible on comms for the benefit of the team. My only slight complaint off the top of my head was at the end of the round when we said “oh well, its done now” and SiB had 10 tickets left… We (myself included) wasted about 20-30 tickets at this stage before the round ended. Guys, let it be known. Irrespective of what round, opposition, map or circumstance… EVERY TICKET COUNTS. If our opposition wins Round 1 by 20 tickets, and we win Round 2 by 19 tickets, we lose the entire game by 1 ticket.

From my perspective on Bazaar:

First round was awesome, and despite no prac in the run up, my role was made clear to me and worked pretty well. Once they banned the MAV, I was a little lost as to how exactly I could best help out the group effort, but I do like squadding with Lee - we've played together long enough now that we just fit right back into a groove.

Despite not feeling too rusty, I could definitely do with more prac, so I'll haul myself away from LOTRO at least a couple of nights a week to get my fps back up to scratch in the run up to the league start.

On the whole, it was cool to jam with the team gain.
