    Cabling

We recently stripped down and rebuilt our home office/study/playpen with proper custom office furniture.
It am very pretty. Not nearly as claustrophobic as it used to be.
But, seeing as the desks are now all open underneath, I had a new problem... cabling.

It seems electronics manufacturers have two belief systems. Either the two items you need to connect together with a cable (or need powering) are right next to each other, or they are on opposite ends of the house. Cables are either really short, or ridiculously long, resulting in loops hanging under the desk, for dogs to chew on, or kids to swing from. That won't end well.

    I found an interesting solution.
Go to your local plastic shop (there is actually a shop called "The Plastic Shop") and buy cheap 'Tupperware' containers. The ones with lids that clip on. They cost about R12 each (price obviously depends on size and larniness. You wont need the expensive ones)
Turn it upside down and screw it onto the underside of the desk with teeny little self-tapping screws.
Cut openings into the side of the tupperware box, coil and feed the excess cabling into that, then clip the lid on.
    Voila!
All the long coils of previously cable-tied-together cables are now neatly and safely hidden inside a box out of harms way, but easily accessed if you need to get to them.
Add some trunking (available at all builders suppliers in various sizes), to manage the cable that spans accross the underside of the desk, and your cabling is all but invisible.
A cheap, simple and elegant solution to the typical spaghetti wiring issue
