    The Book of Eli

    Another post-apocalypse film...[info][/info]

This one is far more 'Hollywood' than the previously discussed 'The Road'.
It is, for all intents and purposes, an action movie with an American feel-good ending to make us all smile with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, starring Denzel Washington, whose work, on average, I quite enjoy.

Eli has a book, but you probably guessed that much...
Eli wants to take it West (don't go get all specific now... he's taking it West, okay? Deal with it!)

Along the way, Eli meets and dismembers all sorts of interesting people, but admittedly, they did start it.
And, damn, he's good at it. Not that he is an inherrantly violent man. He's not... everyone keeps looking for shit with him.

Again, no real explanation is ever given as to what happened to the world. There was a war, but before that there was a 'flash'. Some plants remain. There are birds, there are animals, and Eli eats them.
Water is a precious resource, as surface water is contaminated. Gangs rule wherever people 'settle' through brutality, very much 'Mad Max'
But Eli just wants to take his book West. It would be better for all parties concerned if they just let him, but, nooooo.... everybody wants to be the tough guy.

There is a twist to this story that will become rather apparent, if not blatantly obvious, somewhere around 40% through the film, and a major shake-up right at the end, which in my view, blew all credibility out of the water, Hiroshima-style.
I don't want to post spoilers, though.

Take this one as a pure action film, enjoy the fights, comments, etc. as they occur.
When the credits roll, forget it completely, as in hindsight, too many things make no sense at all.
    I'll give it a 5/10

I also saw this movie when it first came out. I would give it a better rating than Jules did 6.5/7 out of 10

Yes it is only slightly less formulaic than the average post-apoc movie but it was shot really well, I am not sure who the director of Photography was but he did a really good job. The shots were well setup and I thought really captured the "mood" of the film.

I also thought the music was really apt but I then again that is an aspect of movies that I enjoy more than the average joe.
