    Re: headsets

Personally I wouldn't, I tend to avoid headsets that have built in sound processing (i.e. any USB headset).

My personal recommendation would be to get the Roccat Kaves (as used by the duck and Mr Mega). Awesome headset, well built and very good sound for a reasonable price.

You just need the usual 5.1 analog inputs out of your soundcard, and you're good to go. What you can then do if you want better quality sound is upgrade to a good after market soundcard (I'd recommend the ASUS XONAR D2X).

    My pleasure

    Re: headsets

Baseline, I agree with Dragonne. I would not easily get USB driven ones, they tend to always cause issues.

Saying the above, I've recently purchased a pair of Dr Dre Studio earphones and they sound awesome. The only critism that I have with them, they do go through batteries relatively quickly, and do generate a little bit of heat during marathon BC2 sessions. But if neither of this bother you, then I would recommend them as well. http://beatsbydre.com/products/Products.aspx?pid=B3808

With regard to the G35 headset, I can not comment on it, but I would suggest you actually try them out for at least a game or two BEFORE you actually go and buy them.

    Re: headsets

hmmm guys thanks for the heads up
the reason i specifically asked bout the G35 is cause i got my 7.1 surround sound system already connected to my soundcard...so the thought was to instead of unplugging and replugging the whole time...(switching between speakers and headset) to use the usb headset...or is my logic fooked?
besides ...the g35 is only costing me R900 .....
you okes talk bout issues?....like what?....please help?

    Re: headsets

I used to have speakers and a headset at one time.
I didn't have to keep plugging in/out 'cause I used this Y-Plug thingy-majingy. For example, it takes the Center Speaker jack and makes it into 2.
You then have both plugged in at all times.

Alas, I only had one and cannot find more!

    Re: headsets

Shadey I also use splitters after the Duck recommended them to me, they are not hard to find. Most audio-visual shops normally have them. Shop around though, first shop I went to wanted R75 each (I needed 3) and the 3 shops down they asked for R25 each. With the money I saved I was able to establish a centre for crippled bats in Tunisia.

I never had any issues with Logitech USB headsets. In fact, the simplicity of use, and low price were quite high selling points for me.

    Re: headsets

I also have a KAVE and I love it.

I also use the Y-splitter. I got mine for R15 from HiFi Corp.

Additionally, I set my XFi to 2.1 when its just the speakers (default) and 5.1 for just the headset (and then turn my speakers off manually).
Reason being, 5.1, some channels go through headset even if i am not waearing it and i miss some sounds (evident in games and music)
