    GFX help needed

Hi everybody, I need some guidance on the following.

My graphics card that I bought on June 2010, died about 2 weeks ago. The card was an ASUS 5970 card. The 5970 is effectively two 5850's installed on a single board running cross fire. Bottom line, it was (and still is) one of the fastest cards around.

I've returned it to Frontosa, Frontosa verified it is fubar and send it off to ASUS. Asus came back and confirmed card is still FUBAR. Now came the problem, the 5970 is End of Life. So ASUS wanted to give me a 6870 card in it's place. Frontosa, my supplier told them they can go jump. (I would have told them something else). Then ASUS came to the party and agreed to swap out my fubar card with a 6970 which is a single GPU card and performs a lot worse on most bench marks than the 5970 does.

After a long discussion with Frontosa, I have three options:
    1. I can take the 6970 and call it all even.
    2. I can ask for a rebate from ASUS (discounted for time of use, dollar exchange etc)
    3. I can request a 5970 but that will take about 2 months or so before I receive it (shipping from Japan).

What choice would you make? Personally, I have opted for option 2, get the rebate, and then I would rather go and buy a GTX580 or something. In all the years that I’ve dealt with ASUS, this is the first negative. They want me to believe a 6970 is better than a 5870, what a load of ….

Go option 2. Then you can buy whatever you want. Of course it depends on what their settlement value is...

    Re: GFX help needed

Ya I would inquire as to how much they're willing to settle for and go for option 2 to end this dog and pony show. There's no such thing as customer service anymore. Where's the polite email apologizing profusely and offering you something better to make up for the negative experience?

Damn corporate scumbags are penny wise and pound foolish!

I had a similar experience with a SteelSeries headset which was twice sent to me faulty - in fact I suspect they just sent the faulty one back to me in the hope that I was too stupid to install it the first time. In the end they offered me a similar headset that was cheaper and didn't offer to refund the difference due to the shipping and duties.

I told them to refund me in full so I could buy from Plantronics; I ended up paying ~25% of the retail price for the pleasure of opening two boxes, being dicked around and having my intelligence insulted by an American call center agent. Needless to say SteelSeries can forget my business forever.

    Re: GFX help needed

Well, i suggest you get a quote on the option 2. then check what second hand 6970's are going for. coz you might be able to get more money from taking the 6970 and then selling it yourself....
