Mo Money Mo Problems - Clan Matters

Hi Everyone

So some good news, we have managed to get a BF3 server via Gameservers (hosted by MWEB) on a 6 month contact. This will be an open ranked server but the reason for getting it is mainly so that we can use it for pracs etc as we aim to be competitive in whatever BF3 arises. After 6 months we will review and see if we want to renew it.

Now the bad news, obviously this server costs us money, R1750 (R292 per month) to be precise. This money has already been paid out of our slush so we don't need to worry for the next 6 months. But that means we now have a depleted (not completely) slush fund.

For those that are new to the clan, the slush fund is used to finance various things, include rAge expenses, prizes for competitions, emergencies to help out members whose PC parts pack up and now the BF3 server as well

The following is a list of clan members that regularly contributed

- Denis
- j0nny
- Daz
- Jarrod
- Sheri
- Dirk
- Steffan

I am not putting their names down to say “Ooh look how much better these guys are than the rest”, I just want to make every one aware that out of a clan of 23 , 7 members are allowing us to do things that we normally wouldn’t be able to. It is fully understandable that not everyone can contribute but I do think we need to spread the load a bit more.

Now I really want to emphasise that this is not a compulsory fee, we are not a gym or a sports club where you have to pay your dues but if you can contribute just R50 a month it will go a long way to helping out the entire clan and our goals

Some quick maths if out of the 23 members if 15-20 members contributed R50 a month that would mean we would get in R9,000 -R12,000 a year, that would be more than enough to rent the server and pay for rAge and have left over. Currently we get about R800 per month just from the guys above (that is very generous guys)

So once again, this is not compulsory and if you can't it is all good but if you can afford a bit each month, please deposit it into

Bank: ABSA
Sort code: 632005
Account number: 9243121822
Account name: GRRR Slush Fund

Jarrod as our CFO handles this account and I think he asks if you can put your real name down as a reference on the Stop/Debit order.

If you have concerns or feel that it is not right to ask for money then let me know.

Thanks Paul, good words.

Just a correction, you can use your clan nick as a reference for EFT's, I do pretty much know who everyone is in the clan :hmmm:

The one thing that I would suggest is that people set up stop order payments with their bank if they want to do a monthly contribution. With the best will in the world, no-one remembers to make a voluntary EFT every month. It may happen for a month or two, but will soon get forgotten as there is no pressure on people to make the payments.

The Slush fund enables some pretty cool things for all of us, so I hope that most of our members choose to contribute.

As always, if anyone is concerned with me being the custodian of the slush fund, and/or wishes an audit of the financials, I'll be happy to pass across bank records showing all deposits and withdrawals.

Good point, I meant to say this as well. I definitely fall into this category.

One other thing that I wanted to share. In the tradition of keeping our clan members gaming, the slush fund has assisted in getting Stu's PC shipshape and ready for BF3. He will be the recipient of a second hand HD5870 Graphics card that will make his PC capable of running the game.

If we didn't have a slush fund, this wouldn't have been possible, so thanks to all of the contributors.

I admit to not contributing for quite a while now. Accept my apologies as well as my contribution.

I need to setup a recurring transfer...

Thanks for making the thread Paul.

May I suggest a future dated automated payment, it is easy to manage yourself and set it up with no additional banking costs. Jarrod, don't know about the rest of the guys, but I am quite happy with the way you are dealing with the finances, so keep it up.

BTW, Jarrod, may I make another suggestion please. Certain banks only allow one to setup a re-occuring payment for a maximum of 12 months, so, if you see somebody has been contributing monthly on a certain day, and suddenly it stopped, is it perhaps possible just to drop them a mail or something (if you pick it up obviously?) I know I've missed one month about 8 months or so ago because of this.

Anyevent, you have my vote of confidence.
