Change MAINSITE from Joomla to SMF-NUKE

I'm going to backup and install our website locally on my PC @ home and play around with the installation.

Basically, as it stands, we have SMF as out forum - which we use 99.999999% of the time.
Our Joomla CMS (Our MainSite) is completly useless since nobody actually makes use of it.

So My IDEA is to remove it completely and replace the Joomla CMS with something that intergrates PROPERLY with out Forum.

The reason I say this, is that ARTICLES for the main website can be born from TOPICS in the forum -

Main Site TOPICS can be perfectly hotlinked/connected to Forum threads

All of this was impossible with the Joomla/SMF split

Also, One login - on the main page OR in the forum, gives you USER level access to whatever you have permission to.

Whereas with the Split, there was complicated set of mirroring and synconizing and setup of different groups - it was way too complicated.

Anyway.... It's all still theoretical for now, but I will test it and feed back.

What's really nice about PHP Nuke (what SMF-NUKE is essentially) is the massive amount of available customization/modules and things available for it, specifically for Clans and gaming.

So, just my BLOG I guess (Blogs - theres teh kinda thing we can add with SMF-NUKE) - will investigate and tell you what I find.

Yeah good finkin.
Maybe we move the Shoutbox and song of the day into the homepage.
If its possible to get the latest Forum topics on the homepage too that would be cool.
Maybe weather for Jhb CT Durbs PTA BRAZZAVILLE etc

^Ideas, use em or not.

Them be ALL the kinda things that are suddenly POSSIBLE with using something thats properly intergrated..

Aaah, the good life

EDIT: The mainsite can probably have the Shoutbox LIVE - duplicated - as in ONE SHOTBOX for both the main AND the Forums @ the same time.

My eye caught the name of the forum too quickly when seeing it the second time and it read "Change MANSITE from...."

@ Geth - love the inconspicuous sig. almost didn't notice it

:/ dang.

Been working with trying to get the convertor working..... not so great and the SMF-Nuke developers seem to have gone titsup.

Anyway, I'm still looking for better ways.

Hmm, I've just found something new.

Apparently there is now a VERY good Joomla to SMF Bridge.
The problem is, however that we need to upgrade/install SMF from 1.12 to SMF 2.0

I've just tested it on my OFFLINE setup, and it seemed to go quite well, except that I need to re-install some MODS and particularly need to get rid of the smileybar under the Shoutbox.

But, that can be re-examined and I can probably fix it up later anyway.

anyway, I'm going to do some more testing with it, and see how the Bridge works.

Sheesh, already fixed the smiley thing - I'm too quick.

I still need to play with the Joomla addon - but I'm stoked to move from SMF 1.12 to 2.0 RC4 - it's much better, security and available mod/feature wise.

anyway, will keep y'all posted.
