Bell's Palsy

Hey all,

Sorry I haven't been around very much lately - haven't been feeling well. Today, it got much worse. I woke up this morning to go to work and noticed that the right side of my face was partially paralyzed. Went to work and it just felt like it was getting worse. So, I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy.
Its a fucking scary feeling not being able to control/move your facial muscles. Did some reading up on it and the good news is that most people recover fully within 2-6 months.

Causes are controversial, but most state either a viral infection or stress. I've been stressed A LOT at work lately for the past month or so. I'm thinking its that. Although, as a young teen I had mononucleosis and the virus that causes that, Epstein-Barr, can also cause this.

In any case, they prescribed steroids and lots of rest. I'm booked off from work all next week. Going to try and really rest/sleep a lot, but will be around :)

Wow, it's a horrid feeling.
It's that sense of not having control over something like this, that's worse than the actual condition.
Someone in my family has had it too, it's not a nice condition - But thankfully it is most definitely NOT permanent.

Feel free to take out your frustration on us, your extended family, at any time. Rest up and know that we all love you dearly and wish you the fastest recovery ever!

Thanks, guys :) I'm just trying to stay positive and keep a healthy mental attitude.
As Lee said, its more the feeling of no control over the actual condition.
Today, I have a lot of pain in my ear and neck which wasn't there yesterday. It's kinda weird to have a 'numb' face but still feel pain!

Thinkin' of going for a second opinion as the doc I ended up seeing didn't do half the tests I've been reading about. He didn't even take my blood pressure!

I'll keep you guys posted!

Feeling sad and thinking of you! Hang in there, get lots of rest and I am here for you always.

Praying that you will be one of those that show signs of recovery as early as within the next couple weeks or so.
