A year end message from your glorious leader... :D

Over the last couple of years, one of the noticeable trends has been a noticeable downturn in activity on the [grrr] forum and in-game over the end of year holiday period. Reasons for this are unclear, but it doesn’t take great intellectual prowess to realise that the most likely contributing factors are:
• It’s the holiday season. People are away or on leave, and spending more time with family and friends.
• It’s summer. Time to work on the tan (or in Paul’s case – cower in a darkened room), and do loads of outdoor activities.
• Post rAge hangover. A lot of focus goes into rAge every year, and once it’s over people often lose clan focus for a few months.
• No competitive gaming. AGASA is wrapped up for the year, and not much practicing is going on.
• New games. The vast majority of top games are released between October and December. We’re all gamers, and there are usually a few titles that we’ve been waiting for all year, and we want to play those when they arrive.
This year, instead of trying to drum up activity by means of practices and competitions, I feel that we need to acknowledge this time of the year, and wind down on clan activities for the duration. This gives everyone the opportunity to do the stuff that they want to do, without feeling guilty about a lack of participation on the website/in game.
For that reason, after discussion with our admin team, we have decided that all compulsory clan activities (matches, practices etc.) will be suspended through the end of year period. This period extends from the 27th of November until the 18th of January. Although the team captains may choose to organise friendlies during this period, these are purely voluntarily, for participation by members that wish to play.
Although activity is not compulsory during this period, this does NOT mean that the clan will be shutting down and nothing will be happening. I for one will still be hanging out on the forum/shoutbox over the period, and playing as many games as my limited time permits. I hope that there will be many others here to keep me company
There is already a focus within the clan on other games, with Borderlands having taken off a few weeks back, and having already developed a substantial following. Left4Dead 2 arrives later on this week, and I know that there are a number of us who have already pre-ordered the game and are getting ready for more epic zombie slaying (this time including melee weapons – chainsaw FTW!!). Anyone who’s been tempted to buy Modern Warfare 2 will probably have noted the ‘Spec Ops’ mode that the game offers, which allows people to team up and take on missions through maps inspired by the single player game. Plenty of co-op action is around, and I anticipate some good gaming to come over the next two months.
And there will be loads of single player games released around now too. I’m currently knee deep in Dragon Age: Origins and I can see that it’s soon going to extend to neck deep as this awesome game sinks its claws into me. It’s a good time to be a gamer
To everyone in the clan, I’d like to extend a personal thank you for the contributions that you have all made this year. We didn’t manage to scale the lofty heights of 2008 (most notably our 2nd place finish in the BF2 AGASA league), but we’ve still done a lot, although it’s been largely ups and downs. A few of the stand out moments of the year:
• Starting a new competitive game for the clan (COD:WAW)
• Pulling out of the COD:WaW league due to a lack of players
• Getting relegated from the BF2 premier league BF2
• Winning the BF2 first division with a clean sweep, and securing our place back in the premier league
• Three new members joining (the ‘awesome’ SloDaz, the ‘village idiot’ Osiris, and ‘pretty hot and tasty’ Phatso)
• Two old members leaving (Bloed Lus and RoburtUnreal)
• Going from being ‘just another clan’ at rAge 2007/08 to leading the ‘cool gang’ at grrrAge 2009
• Taking up COD4 as a new competitive game for the clan
• Winning our first every COD4 clannie (albeit with an extra player)
• An unbelievably cool grrrAge 2008 video from Lee
I’m sure that I’m missing a lot of good stuff off the list, so feel free to add
What makes a clan special is the bond between its members. I personally feel privileged to be a member of this awesome group of people, you are all a very special bunch (of complete nutters). I couldn’t imagine a clan that I’d rather be a part of, or any of our members that I wouldn’t be very sorry to lose (yes Greg, even you).
I’m rambling here, I know
.
I hope that you all have a joyous, safe, fun filled and game soaked holiday season, and I look forward to some solid commitment to competitive gaming in the new year. We have a lot to look forward to in 2010, for both of our game franchises. COD is in a state of flux, with Modern Warfare 2 not supporting dedicated servers. Where will this go, will we stick with COD4, or will the game die out? Battlefield’s future looks altogether brighter with Bad Company 2 being released in early March (assuming DICE don’t hit us with the usual delay).
Player commitment will be expected for the new leagues, I want us to be competitive in all games that we play. We can’t do that without a committed group of players.
With that in mind, let’s all return from the break recharged and ready to kick some AGASA league arse!!
And in the interim, grab your frying pan and join me face slamming some zombies from this weekend – there’s just no better way of relieving stress
