Website renewal

Hey guys,

Just to let you all know that our annual website hosting invoice has been issued, and that we are going to be paying R1000 on the 1st August to auto renew for another year.

Its obviously a bit late in the day now to try and look for alternative hosting, and I'm sure that the effort required for the Duck to migrate us would be more than can be achieved in a few days.

However, if we are particularly unhappy with hosting unlimited, either in terms of service level received or the cost of hosting (which amounts to ~R80pm), then we should consider doing something about it.

I guess two questions should be asked:

1. Does anyone have an alternative web hosting service that they'd like to propose?
2. @Lee, what work is entailed if we did decide to move?

I assume that we could live without the website for a couple of days if we absolutely had to, although it would mean using a different platform to co-ordinate all of the matches that we have lined up for next week.

Sorry for the short notice on this, I only just received the new invoice.

Damn bad timing with Duck being AFK for this week. I have never had experience with hosting a website so I don't know what is good and what isn't. For me this site is up 99% of the time so I am happy with it.
It really boils down to our technical wizard i.e. Lee if he thinks we are getting value for money. If he says that he isn't happy then we start looking else where, otherwise we stay

I say keep it, and give the duck a break :)
Given that we are playing 3 matches in 4 days, information is vital at this point. Adds a level of complexity.

I would rather stay un-migrated as there is no glaring reason to move and a few reasons not to.

Good points, and good reasons to stay. My only issue is that the customer service aspect of our current hosts has been somewhat lacking. We have had issues raised by them about our memory usage, which, after a fair amount of troubleshooting by our resident duck, turned out to be problems with the setup on their side.

They don't respond to ticket requests when asked, and there was a period or two over the last year when the website has gone down due to issues on their side.

As Paul says though, it's really up to Lee. If he's happy with what we're getting, I'm happy to stay where we are. Unless of course there is a significantly cheaper hosting option available. Remember, if we don't do anything now, we're stuck where we are for the next 12 months.
