Believe it or not but rAge is just over 3 months away. It is from 5th -7th October so before you know it, it is here.

We need to decide and/or sort out a few things

  1. Who is going to come to rAge (specifically the out of towners)?
  2. Who wants to go to the Lan or who just wants to have a rAge XXXL weekend?
  3. T-Shirts/Jackets/Hoodies still needs to be decided on, who is capable of organising this?
  4. Accomodation, where and who needs if we do make a weekend of it?
  5. Money, money, money. We will look at our slush fund to see what can be sponsored and what members will have to pay out their own pocket

So lets get the ball rolling, anything that has to do with rAge can be posted here, the above questions are just guidelines

My thoughts:

If we are not competing, I will not be too keen on the LAN portion. The previous years (esp last years) have simply lacked excitement. Comps @ rAge are where its at. I know we could always go all UT2004 again, but its not ideal IMHO.

If we are not competing, accommodation makes no sense for me as I live in PTA.

rAge has always been the highlight of the year and even though last year had no gaming in it (literally), we still had a fat jol. More drinking than gaming. But thats the thing, rAge is not only about catching up with the grrrbians, but its also about competing in the game we love.

I have to agree with Phatso here, unless there is comp (or other compeling reason) at rAge then I would see no need to go to the actual LAN but I would still be keen for a jol on the Friday and/or Saturday night

So where does this leave us? As expected, we've heard fuck all from DGL about where/when the finals will be held. It wouldn't surprise me if they leave it until after the tickets go on sale before they announce anything. If we should choose not to go to the LAN on the basis that they haven't confirmed a comp, and then they do confirm a comp afterwards, we'll be screwed in terms of getting tickets.

Now I know that the 8 players in the team should get free tickets to the comp, but for the rest of the clan that wants to be there, they would have to buy their own tickets in advance.

Also, if we decide to go ahead and have an XXXL weekend because the finals aren't going to be held at rAge, then what happens when the actual finals are held? We can be pretty sure that they will be held in Jozi, which means that any non Jozi team members would have to travel twice, once to the XXXL weekend, and once for the finals.

Paul/Hubris, do you think you could start putting some pressure on the DGL administration to find out what's happening with the finals? Surely if they plan to hold it at rAge they will have had to do some work on logistics by now, and they should be in a position to know whether or not it's possible to hold it there.

I think we need to know what the arrangements for the finals are, before we can start planning our get together.

There is a thread on SGS asking these questions, if there is no reply to it today with the info we need then I will get hold of DGL to find out

Yes also to bare in mind, our team will need to perform well to be included LAN championships were ever they are held.

The BVD guys seem to think that they have to hold the comp at rage, as it was part of the prize money agreement, but it seems they only have to hold a LAN event it doesn't have to be at rage. I think after last year the relationship between DGL and rage is not good, so i personally think its not gonna be at rage.

So then we should make the get together around when the actual championships are. Even if our team isnt in it, we could still ahve a grrr weekend, and go watch a bit.

So yes out of towners indicate if you would be interested in coming up, so we can no numbers.

I have the ability to sleep 3 comfortably in my house. A forth can be squeezed in. If needed a tents could be put up in my garden if cost are an issue.

I will be attending RAGE, as well as the LAN part of it. Rage is the one weekend in the year where I can really play any game that I want to and there will be somebody else playing the same game and playing it well. If the clan plays the same game, then awesome if not, well then it's been a while since I've had a good go at my stack of old LAN games. Think Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Supreme Commander, SCFA, TrackMania, the gaming list is really endless and the best part, most of those old games can be played on my office laptop! Sorry, but if people say they are not able to play games at RAGE, then they are doing it wrong.

If we are looking for a weekend together without having a LAN, or a computer in sight, we have 51 other weekends to pick from. What am I missing, we are suppose to be a "gaming" clan, and people don't want to attend the biggest gaming event of the year?

If we are not going to be staying together, then I do have my own accommodation, but I will obviously prefer to stay wherever GRRR is staying.

I think it's fairly reasonable to assume that any LAN tickets that we buy and end up not wanting to use will sell like hotcakes, np. If it's possible, I suggest we buy 10-15 tickets with the slush fund when they go on sale, and if there is no BF3 comp, we can sell or go play UT2003. The clan that LANs together once a year renews its bonds imo.
