What I am also thinking is that we can let WrG know we are keen, but that we'd prefer to wait til after RAGE and the handing over of leadership and admin duties for the coming year before making any solid arrangements. This takes the onus off Sheri who currently has family from overseas visiting and limited time. We can also then base admin choices on people who intend to make themselves available for BF3 duties who can then run with the ball on server rentals etc to get into the admin 'groove'.

Thanks, all. Jono is right - we're doing tourist stuffs. My parents landed Thursday evening. I'm stealing a min now while they are busy getting ready. SSG doesn't seem keen - so I agree with going in with WrG. Its not like we can't invite other clans to prac against if we book the server for a night.

Only one q remains - do we rent now and get the discount or wait until after launch? In the meantime, I'll tell WrG we're keen. Can I get someone to follow up on the details? On Monday, I'll be in Mpumalanga for a week at the lodge and won't have a pc.

I am going to attempt to contact WarGeeks tonight when I get home, I can't access their website from work.

If they are keen to share a server then I am going to give Jarrod/Lee the go a head to rent the server based on the quotes they got.

I will ask the Geeks if they can front the money for a 6 month contact, I think for logistics it would be easiest, that or if they want to organise it and we just pay them the cash and then get admin rights to the server

I didn't get a chance to get hold of the geeks but j0nny helped out asked if they were still keen.

Turns out they already have a server and j0nny said they said we could use it at any time.

So here are our two options.

1. I speak to them about paying for clan pracs/matches i.e. sub-renting from them
2. We go it alone and get out own server.

If we get out own we have to do it by tomorrow so we can get the discounts. My preference would be to sub-rent from the War geeks for a while. We saw with the previous server even when we were playing very competitively, we only used it at most 3 times a week.

My idea is if we sub-rent it from them and pre-book Tuesday,Thursday, Sunday 8-10 every week for pracs/matches. I have also been in contact with Vovo and he isn't sure but he thinks SGS will have clan servers so we could also use those (for Free for our pracs)

What are your guys thoughts?

I chatted to rainy on msn yesterday and this morning and he told me that their server has been paid and sorted until the end of March 2012 (can you believe I just typed twenty twelve already!) after which they will review their situation.

Wrt to your options:

The server is paid for so sub-renting is not an option right now and they are not too keen to go that route in the future. We are welcome to play on their server any time (its a public, no-password server), but if we wanted to use it for more serious things like clannies or practices, we would need to discuss it and get permission from them but I wouldn't get my hopes up that they will be too excited about that idea either. But then again, you never know. Rainy said he would have to chat to the guys and see how they feel about the clannie/prac issue.

Maybe see what Vovo has to say rather?

Seems that we were too late to get in on the deal with the Geeks. Ah well, shit happens.

I do think that we need a server for practices. Not for ranked play as a public server, but purely for competitive BF3 practice. We have a phenomenal amount of interest in the game within the clan, including a new member and a prospect who may also be joining us before too long. If we want to be successful in this game, we need a server that we can practice on regularly.

SSG didn't seem all that keen when we last spoke to them, and we're now running out of time to rent something before the pre-order offers expire.

We need a server. I think we should get one. If we can then get another clan in later to share the costs, then all good and well. But we have to look after our own needs first.

Seconded,

As J said, with the amount of interest in this game, I think we cant afford not to get in.......

I wish we knew what the league was going to be like so we knew whata size we can get.

Jarrod, can you find out from Hype games if we ordered a 16 player sever now, if we can upgrade to 32 players later. If we are going to use it for pracs, I wouldn't want to pay for a 32 player server and for it to sit idle an only use by 16 people once or twice a week.

Personally I'd be inclined to go with wage or mweb rather than hype...we often had Lag problems with hype.

Mweb have said they are running UBER hardware for BF3 - no other service provider has reported buy hardware specifically for BF3 that I know of.
