I may be jumping the gun here or misunderstaning you, but lets not forget that although Battlefield is Battlefield, the change of BC2 to BF3 will be immense in terms of player skill. Far too often did you see guys that played really well in BF2 suck @ BF2142 and play good again in BC2.. Vice versa applying in all ways here. There were guys that absolutely DESIMATED in BF2, but were not suited at ALL to BC2 (ahem)..
What I am saying is, should BF3 become the "next big thing" (man, I've said that enough...), we should start off on a fresh slate. Not only do players playstyles evolve over time and get better or worse depending on game, but AGT (Allowed Gaming Time) constantly changes. You'll find that some guys who could not commit to previous leagues now have spare time to devote to a game or venture (VV applying again).
Then regarding statistical analysis... Some stats should be looked at and will provide some good value, but I think we need to be very careful here.
Some situations to hink about:
-Just because playerX's KDR is better than playerY's, does it make him a better SL?
-If playerX's amount of revives are higher than playerY's, does it make him a better medic?
-playerX's helicopter time is 100 hours, with a KDR of 2, while playerY's time is 10 hours with a KDR of 5...
The list goes on.. I may have overcomplicated it already and I guess the point is, lets be careful with how deep we go down the rabbit hole regarding stats.
I do agree on the Team Captain being consistent, but my 2c regarding team selection is different. I don't know how much value there is in ONE person selecting his team based on only his insights. We should perhaps look at a larger "panel" of players to choose the best of the best for the team.
Regarding practices, we should try play as many as possible, but I like the idea of varying things up with what the actual practice is.. Should it be server raids (10 players from grrr join 1 server) or practice clannies. The most desirable situation regarding the practice clannies would be having 2 full string sides. Feedback is best given by clan-mates in my opinion.
Lets keep the dicsussion rolling, its awesome to see us being better prepared for leagues and new games
