I don't think you'd have come across as negative in a normal discussion. It just seemed to me to indicate that he should prepare himself for rejection. Nothing wrong with that... except, like I said (and I'm guessing here), that he's read the other application threads and won't find any comments like that directed to the other applicants.

Nothing wrong with what you said, of course :)

We can also gauge his reaction (if any at all) when he sees how quickly murgs and lep were accepted into the clan.

I'm with the above comments let's wait it out and see if he's willing to hang around... Not bad having him in TS and playing with the bloke.

mergs and Lep are two different cases...

I must say, I found Ionflux to be pretty cool when I played with him on Friday night. Not overbearing at all, generally a good all round player, and keen to play for the team. Not to mention that his chopper piloting skills netted me a couple of badges and a very nice round score on Valdez :p

I also think that he responded very well to Grav's initial post on his application. TBH, if I'd received a response like that, all grrr would've got from me thereafter would have been a 'fuck you sunshine' and I'd be off looking for a clan that wasn't populated by self obsessed arseholes.

@Lawrence - I can certainly see why you posted what you did (wanting to see how he handled adversity - would he throw his toys and reveal himself to be emotionally immature), but I do think that the tone was too harsh for a first post on an application thread - especially for someone that we don't know. The public can read these threads, and I'd hate for people to be scared to apply in case they got that kind of response.

Anyway, back on topic. Yes, Ionflux's age does count against him, but personally I think that it's prety cool that he wants to play socially, but enjoys our company enough to want to hang out with us while doing so.

Perhaps the answer is that we should invite him to stick around and squad up/play with us on the servers and TS. However, we want to keep clan places for people that are really willing and wanting to compete. That way we can squad with him some more, and evaluate him over a longer period. If he turns out to be grrr material, we can invite him in. If he's a covert 'tard, we haven't lost anything.

I would rather we tell him that many of us have played with Murgs and Lep long before their applications and Flux is totally new to us and we would like more time to get to know him. I think thats closer to the truth without being insulting on any level.

Also agree with Geth.

Ion will realize pretty soon that Lep and Murgs are in da clan. Has anyone talked to Ion about "hanging about and us getting to know him betterer"?

I would go with this. Definitely. Might help him relax a little more, so he opens up more.

I've squad up with Ion several times now. He's a good player, and when he talks on ts, he's a nice enough guy. Great k/d, which I'm envious of. I wish he would talk a little more though, but maybe he's feeling a little intimidated. I know my first couple times on ts with you guys, at some points I went silent for a while as I didn't feel I had anything to add to the conversation. Also would help if people actually directed questions or what they say at him on ts, so he can get a chance to respond.

Regarding the competitive issue... someone needs to ask him straight out and see if he really just wants a social clan, or if he would like to play competitively but just doesn't want to be seen as trying to push his way into a spot in a team.
