Yes, Promod is needed to play. However, when you join the server, Promod automatically downloads and its really quick.

Thank you all for making time tonight to practice. I promise they will be more notice for future prac/clannies.

Please join COD4 grrr TS for tonight's prac.

Very nice practice, gents! It was very informative and really did us a world of good. (Special thanks to Kev for being Super Coach!)

Points to remember:
1. Grenades tossed at the very beginning is crucial!
2. Call out kills made/your own death and location. (We must memorize the names for each area of the map! I'm going to post an overhead view of da map with names soon.)
3. Don't be too aggressive whilst on Defense. The goal is to run down their time so they can't plant.
4. Don't be too hasty to plant on Attack... try to knock off a couple of their guys first.

I'm sure I'll think of more when I'm less tired!

Tips from Kev:
1. Remind your guy that goes to mid building on attack, that he can spam thru the metal of the shack without any damage reduction
2. If you're standing at the iron beams, you can shoot through the wall that shoots through the stairs and into the bomb site A with ZERO damage reduction.
3. Good websites to check out: http://www.bashandslash.com and http://www.gotfrag.com

Yooooo guys & girls

Glad that was productive for you all. Don't worry if things seem a bit overwhelming in terms of complexity at the moment, it does take time to really get good at CoD4.

First things first I must commend your calling, it was top notch right off the bat. I haven't heard calling like that since I played for r0gue when we were still running near the top of the SA ranks! Keep it up!

Sheri's map (previous post) shows all the names of all the areas of the Backlot map, I think you've already got it mastered - but before the game make sure to just go over it again quickly. Communication is VITAL in CoD4.

If you guys want to start getting some practice in, a good place to play is on iGame's Promod open servers, and once you're feeling more confident, start playing pickup games (more on those in a later post - they're effectively mock-clannies with random teams).

Also guys if you've got any questions, please feel free to send them my way. I'm more than willing to help out in any way possible. :) I'll be online for prac again tonight @ 8PM. I'd like to work particularly on Backlot's nades and then on a general strat for Crash (DyN's map). Should go pretty well :)

Thank U for helping us Kev..

There is a big difference between the game (eg. Free-for-all) and this promod , but i guess adapting quick is the biggest secret. It seemed like the team worked very well together, and that already shows major possibilities!

i believe a congrats is in order , everyone did very very grrreat , and for a first go , i finx we can be proud.

Just wanted to echo Sheri and Jean's thanks to Kevin for giving up his time to show us the COD4 ropes.

This game is certainly a lot more involving than I'd expected, and I have high hopes for the grrr team in the longer term. It is going to take us a while to get used to the mechanics of this, especially those us us who are BF vets. Having said that, last night's practice showed promise, it was good to see everyone there and committed.

A thing to remember though. When you die, your role in a round is not over. Thanks to TS, and spectator's ability to switch between players to spectate, dead team mates often get a very good idea of enemy positions and movement. Keep alert, and if you notice something that will be of strategic value to the survivors, let them know!! Obviously we don't want to flood the comms channel, but with only five on a side instead of eight (as in BF2), this should be less of an issue.

I'm really amped bout our COD potential. I'm sure we'll have a more realistic view of our current capability after Thursday's game, but lets keep in mind that even should we get hammered, we started the same way in CODWAW, and look how we ended after a month or so...

Unfortunately I won't be able to make prac tonight. Sheri, I'll leave it up to you to call; there is no way that I'll be able to get a feel for the flow of crash by tomorrow night, so you may want to sub me out for someone who makes prac both nights, and has a feel for the strats on both maps. Of course if you still want me, I'll definitely be there on Thursday, SMG at the ready... :machinegun:

Sheri, thanks again for getting this up and running so soon. Thanks also to Lep and Toppie for mercing for us, and to everyone for making the effort to come to prac on such short notice.

On the subject of communication

As Draggy pointed out you don't want to flood the comms channel at any time. Often just being able to hear an enemy walk over a gun, swap weapons or make one loud footstep can turn a round in your favour.

Calling and communication is very very very important, as long as it's not intrusive to "hearing what's not being said."

I've seen A*P - one of the better teams currently around, they placed 3rd in SA in the last league - use an interesting tactic with their voice comms. As players die they allocate themselves a player to spectate and start calling for them, meaning that player then can focus more intentively on the game without having to talk. A*P has this down to a fine art, and I saw you guys were doing a similar job last night, so just keep it up and I think you'll be able to pull it off without an issue.

When you're down to 2 players left in a round, or even more importantly when you've got one last man standing, generally you leave TS as quiet as possible (letting just the last alive players to talk to each other and work out how to finish the round) and to let that player hear any noises. I personally also find it a lot easier to focus on a 1v1 (or 1v5 ;) ) when the rest of my team has called where the guys were, and then remain quiet til the end of the game.

If you want to have any communication between dead players, the best option is to use the team text chat (Y key by default). The most annoying thing to a survivor in a clutch round (a round where you end up 1v2, 1v3 or more) is when there's a whole conversation happening on TS in the background.

Yes thank you for the session last night all...

I had to reinstall TS and once I was on I could not communicate but I could hear all you sorry sobz. It was still valuable to me because i picked up on a few things.

the mod is very interesting and seems to be scaled down for comp gaming which is nice with limited weapon availability. I wouldn't consider myself a n00b at COD4 but I am a n00b when it comes to competitive play deff different feel to a open server game.

I will sort out my audio when I get home to see if this is all functioning.

Team Captain - Sheri - Thanks for the call last night and thank you for arranging this. It seems the release date for COD MW2 has been pushed back till 24th Nov more time to save seeing as they have decided to hike the price.

What happens to all those you purchased the pre-release? Score or not so much?

One - n00b question, how do i add tags?

Two ways of setting your name Ice

1. Go to Options -> Multiplayer Options and set your name there with the tags
2. Open a Console (`) and type /name [grrr]n00b
