BF3 Servers

Post by J_Th4ng »

For anyone who may be concerned about BF3 servers for South Africa (as being discussed on SGS), I received the following email from Wayne at Hypegamez yesterday:

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that HypeGamez has been selected to be part of EA's global process to engage with selected RSP's to host local servers for the up and coming BF3 title. Once the process is complete, we will update our website and open pre-orders for BF3 servers. Also, should we be allocated beta keys, we will also update our website with this information.

If you have any questions regarding BF3 or any other game servers, please dont' hesitate to get in touch with me.

Lastly, our hosting provider peers with Mweb & SAIX, so we don't have any lag issues on our game servers. Checkout our website for a list of some of the locally hosted servers http://www.hypegamez.co.za/public_servers.php

Cheers for now.

So we will definitely have BF3 servers in SA.

A second question is whether or not we want to hire a server for the clan? We have funds accumulating in the slush fund, so I think it would be a good idea to use some for hosting our own server, especially once things get competitive.

Thoughts? Should we line up our own server now (I can ask Wayne for their costing), or do we want to wait and see what happens? If we do decide to g ahead, I'd also like to ask WAGE if they're going to be renting out servers as they are peered with everyone and thus should give good connection speeds for all (not to mention that WA being my ISP will certainly be good for me).

BF3 is set to be the next Clan Warfare Game - Having our own server is paramount to success if we want to do well in Leagues.
I for one would, depending on the cost, vote for our own server most definately.

I think get costings but lets wait

* See how many peeps will be able to play BF3 in the clan
* If/When there will be a league
* Will we be competing in the league

My personal view is that have a clan server is only necessary if we are going to compete and need to practise. WHen we had the BF2 server we hardly ever used it for FFA play

I think there will definitely be leagues for BF3. It is the next big FPS.

I'd vote YES on a clan server. What are the terms of contract - month to month basis?

What about co-renting with BBH or SSG? We can book slots in advance for matches and prac against them.
I am for renting a server and competing but I feel that even with our ghost members coming back to play and in the increase in interest it will be used at most once a week.
If we as a group want to play competitively in the league then we should get a server and try to find another team that wants regular pracs.

Spoken like a true hobbit - practical in more ways than one, makes 100% sense.

Also, wd to Jarrod for maintaining the relationship with Wayne.

^ sound planning, gearing up with other clans to practice and rent a server is a solid suggestion!

I like Geth's idea. However, from past experience it seems the BBH okes aren't the most reliable in terms of organization! Perhaps we should ask SSG.

SSG might be a good idea, they usually pound our asses so if we constantly prac against them we should improve where as we usually beat BBH so practising against them doesn't help us improve

I say who ever gets elected as leader at rAge, there first task should be to get hold of the Vovo and propose this

I have been reading conjecture that servers will be ~twice what BC2 servers are, due to both increased hardware requirements and EA's love of $.
