I spawned into BF3 and was TK'd within 10secs. Those are my first impressions.
I was getting CTD's every 5mins or so, chose the repair option and seems to have helped.
Mind blowing are my first impressions.
Server lag / game crashing issues aside, I really think that BF3 will go the distance. Having tried out all facets (inf, armor, helo, jets) there is not a single aspect I dislike from a gameplay point of view. Rock, paper, scissors effect working well.

I do seem to be getting less server lag than what some people are complaining about.

I hear mention someone saying its more like COD - I wonder because we are all so used to NOT having to watch too many windows from buildings.
I am still getting used to the RPG - sometimes it seems great, sometimes not - i have shot a teamie point blank and he only shouted at me to watch freindly fire.
whearas at a dsitance I think it will work as well as the sniper rifles :)
I like the little bird, havent got the JS going yet, but it is certainly fly-able with KB and mouse and with some practise will do well against ground troops.

I am loving this game, it is definitely not a tweaker game, if you are aware of your surroundings and plan your route right you can dominate.
Only thing that I don't like is how weak the RPG etc is. I mean I shoot a buggie and if catches on fire instead of blowing up. EVERY vehicle takes atleast 2 rockets to destroy. So gettting vehcile kills is very difficult because people usually bail.
I can see that being part of the firs (2nd) patch.

I have played quite a bit this weekend and I am hooked!.
All issues asside, this is a EPIC game and its clearly one of those games (like old bf2) where some tact goes a long way.
I have also tested some of the vehicles and they seem sound, just a bit hard flying a chopper with the lag I had at some points......

What can I add? The game is meeting all of my expectations so far. Loving every minute when I'm playing, and daydream about playing when I'm not. There are definitely a few balance issues that they need to resolve though:
The absolute winner for me is the Mobile AA, which is completely INSANE. I discovered it for the first time on Saturday night playing Kharg Island Conquest. My first round using it netted me an easy ~20 kills with no deaths. And considering that most pilots bail when their jet gets disabled, I took down a lot more planes than that. And this without any vehicle unlocks for the vehicle (I got three during that first round).
They've also addressed the issue with the jets dominating everyone else. Portable AA works well, and jets can't bomb the fuck out of everyone any longer.
Love the classes, the weapon unlocks (and weapon upgrades). Pretty much everything about the game. There are a few bugs that need ironing out, but I'm confident that DICE will get on to these ASAP.
Lag on the servers is causing some serious headaches though. I certainly hope that this is addressed, and soon, as it can really make the game unenjoyable fast. last night was an example for me (I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about considering the fact that we had almost the entire clan on the same server!!).

I agree about the air vs land balance. I have been killed on foot maybe 2x by choppers and 0x jets. Also loving the mobile AA, its a lotta fun.
I like the way you have to change from AP rounds to machine gun in the tank. Makes it slightly more balanced vs infantry. Not much splash damage off either rpg's or tank rounds at this stage.
I wish they had kept the order of weapons in the load-out from BF2 ie 1 = knife, 2 = pistol, 3 = rifle etc. I am long in the tooth and its taking me a while to get around the new order.
I am not sure if its the software bombing servers or they just aren't powerful enough but either way, I hope there's a fix on the way for that. Its a major bug for a game that's already on the shelves.
Good news is there will be bucket-loads of noobs over December and easy pickings.
What an experience! I've never played a game with this type of quality! Thank you to all that made this experience possible!
I've noticed I have a load issue and sometimes I have to restart the game between Map loads :(
Besides from that I am loving the game! Pulled off an incredible RPG to Chopper kill taking down Hubi and Nomad that made my day!
We will have to define some clear strategies! Using suppressive fire can make a big difference in a contact situation!
I think some more time spent in game will help with the RPG issues and bullet drop.
Almost don't want to go to Jozi this week! Wish I could spend some more time on the servers.
At least you'll be able to spend some time watching the servers, over my shoulder...
Maps:
I like the big maps where there are vast distances that needs to be travelled and strategies can come into play. The urban maps is too much like COD for me where rapid reflexes in a team determines the winning side rather than the strategy being followed. Well organised teamwork, combined with better weapon unlocks will go a long way to resolve some of the metro gripes I have.
Balance:
I think the vehicles is very powerful, almost too much so. I like the fact that you need to change weapons in the tank, gives infantry a little bit more chance. Yet, sitting in a tank, on machine gun fire, zoomed in, does not give infantry much chance. I have a feeling they will reduce the strenght in the next patch of the machine gun (unfortunately).
Interface:
Not sure that the interface running in a web browser is the best I've seen. Guess it will take some time getting use to it. I can understand why they've done it that way, cost reduction, quicker time to make adjustments, and I think very good anti-piracy methods.
I find it strange that you can only change your keys in game. I also need to look at the Console key (~) and see if one can replace that. A couple of times, I've pressed that when swapping weapons around.
Gameplay:
I would have liked that the baddies be marked a bit more prominantly. Right now, one almost need to look twice to distinguish between a good guy and a bad one. The camo the baddies are wearing makes them really hard to see. If somebody is lying still, I don't think I'll be able to spot them easily.
Graphics:
The graphics is amazing, not sure that I like all the junk flying around though but it is a really amazing looking game.
Bugs:
- Thanks Fly, that frustrated the crap out of me.
- I use a Logitech G5 mouse with speed settings, it seems to be acting up on occasions in game
- The sound is a bit soft. Let me rephrase, I need to set the game sound to 100% for it to be nice. However, I am unable to then hear anything on TS. I have a feeling it may be my earphones though. (Or I might be missing a master master volume button somewhere) Then again, the fact that I am deaf probarbly have something to do with it too....
Overall, nice game.
