New Mouse and Keyboard

Hey Guys,

Its that time again where I start looking into getting a new mouse and keyboard as my current ones wasnt good enuf.

What is good currently out there?

My previous mouse is the sidewinder x8 and an x6 keyboard, they werent too bad but not too robust. I have a budget for this but would prefer not speding a small fortune as the previous times I did the hardware didnt stay in shape for very long......

Most gaming mice have powerful enough sensors so, IMO, performance is no longer an issue. Whats more important is personal preference wrt shape and button configuration. If you were happy with your last mouse then stick with the same brand or at least shape. I have the G500 and its good.

I'd be interested to see what others recommend in terms of keyboards. I've never splurged on the logitech items with bells and whistles. Again, I think its what you get used to using rather than some products really out-shining others.

My 2c:

- You can't beat Razer mouses. (fanboy)

- Having been gifted a gaming keyboard, the best feature I've found on it is backlighting for the keys, so if you're playing in a dark room, you can still see where all the keys are (without having to rely on screen glow or the ambient light from the cherry on a spliff).

Mouses are most definitely personal choice. I've always been a big fan of Logitech mouses, but I recently purchased my first Razer mouse and am thoroughly enjoying it. One thing though Ion, if you're used to an X8, know that almost any other mouse you use will be a lot smaller. I bought an X8 before I got my Lachesis, and I had to give up on it within a few weeks because it was so big for my hands as to be uncomfortable.

I must say, for the price, the Razer Lachesis is a superb mouse. The Logitech G9x is as good, but costs a lot more. I'd certainly get one again.

As for keyboards, you need to find something that suits the feel you like. The X6 feel almost like a laptop keyboard in it's tactile response (that's the gaming keyboard that j0no is referring too, btw). The Logitech keyboards have a much deeper stroke, which may or may not satisfy you (minds out of the gutter, girls ;)).

Razer also make decent keyboards, with a tactile feel that's much like the logitechs, and also at decent prices. The exception to this is their mechanical keyboard (can't remember the name), which is a lot pricier than the normal keyboards, but which provides a very distinctive tactile response.

I suggest trying out a few options at rAge. You're welcome to have a go on my Lachesis mouse and G510 keyboard, to see how they feel. I'm sure that others will happily let you play with their toys too...

Backlighting on keyboards is not something I've ever missed. I can touch type and the WASD keys are easy to feel with their 3cm layer of palm sweat.

I have also started to figure a mouse being about personal preference and all that. Allthough i have had some bad mice along the way and tbh at this stage i am looking for a mouse that will last me a while..... My previous mouse was a lachesis and i had endless problems with the mouse and so did a mate of mine(bought it at more or less the same time end razer support was useless)
i am not scared to get another razer tho but i am not too keen on getting the lachesis again.
I figure if i rounf up the most durable of the lot i can check for preference between those. The x8 i have currently isnt that bad a mouse. Problem though is that the mouse tends to give a cheap feel to it and i am having issues with the mouse wheel and the charger doesnt always work lekker.....

As for the keyboards, i tend to use the backlit keys as i end up playing in the dark, the shallow keys are my preference too but tbh i very rarely use the macro functions of most of these gaming keyboards....

I figure picking the right mouse will be the harder choice

as a note, i noticed razer has released a whole range of razer battlefield 3 products.......

I have a Razor Diamond back and I think it is great. Medium size, very response, nice looking. Only draw back is that is it very light. If you like a heavy or "sturdy" mouse you might not like it.


I also have a razer lycosa keyboard which looked great but I am not 100% happy with it. Like Jarrod said it has laptop key but they feel a bit "stiff" and every now and then I have to open it up because one of the key (so far the A and W) stop working. It is almost like the membranes shift. It could be I just got a bad one, Shadey also has the keyboard so ask her for a second opinion

Ja, I've been using a Razer Diamondback for the last 6 years - fkin perfick for me.

had a look at that and tbh I dont see it being a practical mouse for a FPS game tho

I'd love to try the naga for FPS tbh...

I'm sure that a few of those extra buttons would come in useful, and it's not like you have to map every one of them.
