I am not talking about diversifying for competition but for lans. So if there is a lan we go and play COD4 or something but we don't enter COD4 leagues

@Paul - We've tried to diversify a couple of times now, and guess what happened? It failed on both attempts.

People aren't committing to any game but BF, and until they do, diversifying isn't going to work.

The reality is that LAN gaming in general is dropping off, with MW2 also not supporting LAN play. That doesn't help us or the DL deal, but it seems to be the way that things are moving. Blame the growth of game consoles if you like, or the rampant increase of piracy on the PC, but developers are becoming more and more reluctant to add LAN support in games. Look at Blizzards two big titles that are in development; both Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 will be shipping without LAN support.

Some more details on the LAN thing, from a DICE developer:

You need to log into the game using an Internet connection in the first place so if your LAN doesn't have Internet you won't be able to play BFBC2 anyway.

Also yes at this point there is no LAN option for BFBC2 and no immediate plans to add it into the game. Larger LAN events like Multiplay's i-Series are also RSP's so as someone mentioned getting your LAN event sponsored or run by an RSP is the closest you will get to LAN gaming at this time. The LAN will still need Internet connections to run the game though.

This is REALLY kak news...

I hope DICE reconsider. 2142s need to be connected for LAN purposes was a complete f*ckup and the fact that LAN comps in SA are the "next big thing" and rAge's success to date... This is going to very shitty.

Lets just hope it does get shipped with an "offline" mode.

On the other hand, I do suppose we will need to diversify. And I have no problem playing other games. Its just that the hopes and dreams of most of the SA gaming populace are resting with BC2. No LAN functionality will dampen competition arrangements somewhat.

Well it will be if BF:BC2 is our only game. It will more than likely be out main game but I thought that we were also going to try diversify.

This could be a bit of a problem for us and the DL sponsorship. I can't find original source on this, but was posted on the Steam BF forum:

German games magazine Gamestar recently had an interview with Patrick Bach, Senior Producer on Battlefield Bad Company 2. The interview reveals some information about the upcoming FPS title from DICE.

Bach confirmed that Bad Company 2 won’t contain any LAN functionality, however he announces that the studio may consider adding it at a later date.

Will be a bit of a problem if the DL clan plays a game that can't be LANned :(
