Sweet members are only expect to contribute what they can afford, whether that is R10 or R1000

No worries QB, thanks for contributing. You'll see you have your achievement already ;)

Yea for the jacket and a slight fund contribution. Wanted to put more, but that will have to wait for next month.

by J_Th4ng » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:45 pm

@QB, I assume that R600 of that is for your jacket? Thanks a lot mate, we've almost got enough in the fund to cover the balance at Heatherdale - the R3700 for T-Shirts had set us back a bit.

by SlipperyDuck » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:45 pm

you see, it's already having an effect . . . :p

by TygerBS » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:41 pm

Ok grrr fund benificry added. I will make regular contributions now. Just paid R800

by Paul » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:38 pm

It also doesn't need to be done every month, like every couple months we update it.

I like it

by SlipperyDuck » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:11 pm

gonna go edit the hover over to say eg: "R500 paid to the Slush Fund"

Yeah, we can reset it at any stage, plus you don't necessarily have to go through and make the changes all the time, I'm happy to go do it.

We can use a Thread in the Admin section to list people's and their contributions, which should be much easier for you overall, then myself or anyone else with Admin priviliages can ensure that the 'counters' match the thread.

No biggy for me.

by J_Th4ng » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:02 pm

Lee, you are clearly far more diplomatic than I am :) . I personally would've just shouted it out there that 'These guys are paying the way for everyone, the rest of you are freeloaders...'

I like the concept, it's just going to require some admin from me to update for everyone every month.

I'll look to put everyone's actual contributions in there as they currently stand, and update again next month (and so on). I think that we should reset after rAge each year, as that's generally the point in time that we wipe out the fund!!

Also, I think we should draw everyone's attention to the new achievement. Just a simple post explaining what this new icon is that people will be seeing on their profiles. Probably best to have Paul post this?

EDIT: Okay, I've updated with all of the details as sent out yesterday. This is contributions for the last 6 months. In future, I'll download bank statements more regularly, so I can adjust contribution profiles a little easier, and over a full 12 month period. It's a bit of work, but as long as I remember to do it, shouldn't be a problem.

Subtle Contribution Tracking

OK, so contributions is a touchy subject, but we must do something.

On the one hand you have people who give generously to the GRRR Slush fund then you have others that couldn’t be bothered.

Unfortunately we also have "freeloaders", this is not uncommon, you will find this in every walk of life, people who think the world owes them everything and they should contribute nothing.

This is unfair behaviour as it seems the freeloaders are getting what they want at the expense of good people in this collective, this would not normally be such an issue, just that these freeloaders seem to have loud voices and make demands, which is insanely wrong on so many levels. So while it's not in our best interest to name and shame, nor to demand financial aid in this clan, the negative impact of the afore mentioned is impacting on the admin rat pack and will continue to do so unless we address it somehow.

So my suggestion is a subtle one, discreet in fact, in the form of an icon/badge.
“What is this you? I don’t understand!”
Ok. So, let me explain, provide some screenshots and how to govern the whole thing.
Image

Login to the Admin Panel with the ADMIN link in the Nav bar, then SCROLL DOWN

Image

We will click the down arrow to expand the ExpereinceSubMenu, then click on
[Manage Custom Points]
Then click on a user you wish to update, eg: Slipperyduck

Image

This will show Userid as only their user number, but the POINTS is what counts, update the amount they have paid into the Fund, R500 in this case is just 500 (*example obviously), if they’ve paid R322, then enter that, the system will recongnise that R300 is more than 300 but less than 400, then click SAVE.

Image

Last but not least, we need to re-run the Assignment of Achievements, which will calculate and allocate the correct Achievement icon for this user (*NOTE I’ve done R50, R100, then incriments of R100 all the way up to R2000, if we need to add more, I will do so at a later stage). You will see the result at the end.

Image

Here it is calculating and assigning.

Image

Finally, this is the end result, a rather SUBTLE indication that Slipperyduck has paid R500 into the slush fund so far, not bad considering he hacked the system.

OK, so thats it, a clean a subtle way to indicate the contributions to the fund. It’s almost unnoticeable, but also will get the mind ticking over for the users who just don’t bother, since they will start seeing everyone else with these icons and they have none.
What do you guys think? Go ahead – do it?

Jarrod obviously has the clear view of what has been paid and what not, I can understand that this year may not be super accurate, but we can reset it for 2013 and start the fun all over again.
