by NiteShade » Fri Sep 26, 2014 11:15 am

Just did some minor editing of grammar, but not to sure what to write-up about myself. Is it interesting enough to say that I have National Colours and a 2nd place medal from the South African Wargames Union from competing in 2007 BF2 comp (was with BFC then)?

All you fellow grrrbians need to go click EDIT next to the Members section and add yourselves with a blurb of some sort - you'll see how it's formatted when you edit.

Sweet.

History etc now evident on our WIKI page: http://www.grrr.co.za/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

If I went to a clan website and saw a link to WIKI - that's what I'd expect to see there, some blurb about the clan etc....so to me it makes sense to add it there.

I'm actually editing this into OUR WIKI pages, probably needs a bit of editing as we go, but goothinknbatman

More contributions please or we can go with "GRRR is a cult of sycophantic nerds who worship Megageth as the one true n00b-slayer..." etc etc.

by Megageth » Fri Sep 07, 2012 2:23 pm

There is a section in the Wiki for gamers so not sure if we need to do individual write-ups in the clan info as well?
Shorely we can list members and those will link to the individuals' pages. SHORELY!

Intro

Grrr is a casual gaming clan that primarily focuses on the fun and social aspects of gaming whilst still competing in leagues such as the DoGaming League, specifically in the Battlefield series of games. The official Grrr website can be found at www.grrr.co.za

History

Grrr was started by two friends in 2005/2006, Gethyn “Megageth” Gilmour and Jono “s3xy_j0nny” Wickwar who decided it would be a hoot to slap on some tags whilst playing Battlefield 2. With their unique brand of humor and delusions of adequacy, they plundered South African servers for a few months, regaling stories of their awesome kills and non-noobish behavior. This caught the attention of Lawrence “gr@vity” Mckelvin who had also been playing Battlefield 2 for a while as a lone wolf.

Using bloodhounds and an extremely expensive PI, gr@vity tracked down s3xy_j0nny’s email and applied to join this new clan. Not fully understanding the consequences, they foolishly accepted the new applicant and this partnership was now recognized as a fully-fledged clan. The flood gates soon opened with a flurry of new applicants that were reluctantly accepted. These 'people' included Jarrod “Drag0nne” McElhinney, Mike “Flycather” Fletcher, Lee “leelo0270” Logan (now SlipperyDuck), Ion “Flufster” Marias (now Cr0n0S), and Ignatius “Jackal_GI” Marias and Paul “Candidate” du Plessis (now Paul_RSA). Grrr was now well on their way to becoming one of the best and most recognized clans in the small but vibrant Battlefield 2 community.
As of 2012, the membership stood/stooped at around 20 active members.

Fun Facts

• Grrr is one of the few clans that has a large percentage of older gamers (more than 30 years old) with at least 4 members that are over 40
• Grrr has 2 female members which is unusually considering that the primary game type is a WAR “sim”. Both of the female members have competed competitively in various DoGaming and AGASA leagues. Sheri “Niteshade” Buchner was the first female clan leader (if you ignore s3xy_j0nny) of Grrr and was elected for the 2011 season.
• Grrr members regularly meet up outside of gaming i.e. in Real life, mini events such as braais “piss ups” occur throughout the year in various provinces. Grrr have also made an annual pilgrimage to the NAG LAN @rAge since 2007 and competed in various Cups at rAge. Another big event took place in 2010 when Grrr held an XXXL weekend to celebrate multiple members hitting the Big 4 OH.

Friends

Over the years Grrr has developed special relationships with various clans. In particular two clans, namely BBH (Bound By Honour) and WrG (WarGeeks) are considered to be friends of Grrr they are mostly seen as the slow friend that Grrr needs to help when bullies come round but they are considered to be “good people” and the Grrr members regularly mix it up with the member of these two clans.
