Ohai guise.
So, irrespective of how you have pre-ordered Diablo 3, you can get the installer files NOW! (digital pre-orders get given this option from the moment of pre-order)
Why would you want to do that you ask?
Well, Blizzard are hype-machine professionals firstly.. Secondly, its awesome because once you get your "CD key" (through opening your box in our case), this is what would normally happens.
1. You install the Blizzard Game. (45m – 1 hour?)
2. You logon to your Battle.net account. (1m)
3. You add the game onto you profile. (1m)
4. You launch the game and logon with your Battle.net account details. (1m)
For point 1 specifically:
Early Install
We will be unlocking the game's installer at 8:01 a.m. PDT on May 14. This will allow you to begin installing the game, troubleshoot any issues you run into (http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-installation-troubleshooting-pc), download and install the launch day 1.0.1 patch, and be ready to play as soon as the servers come online.Source (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/5338015)
You download 99% of the installer now, the “unlocking” above is the final 1% which makes the installer actually install. So once you get your “CD key” in your grubby paws, all you do is add it to your account, download the final 1% and BOOM, welcome to Sanctuary.

The download itself is approximately 7.6GB and downloads very fast due to the P2P state of the installer. There is a bit of data uploaded too, so budget 8GB.
It’s important to remember that your Battle.net account needs to be a EU Battle.net account and NOT a US account. The easiest way to check this is where you logon to you Battle.net account management. If you go through eu.battle.net, you’re fine.
Please note, that I am about 90% sure that the above is going to happen, based on previous experience and what the interwebz says.
Either way, I am effing stoked. SEE YOU IN THE SANCTUARY
