Ohai guise.

So, irrespective of how you have pre-ordered Diablo 3, you can get the installer files NOW! (digital pre-orders get given this option from the moment of pre-order)
Why would you want to do that you ask?

Well, Blizzard are hype-machine professionals firstly.. Secondly, its awesome because once you get your "CD key" (through opening your box in our case), this is what would normally happens.

1. You install the Blizzard Game. (45m – 1 hour?)
2. You logon to your Battle.net account. (1m)
3. You add the game onto you profile. (1m)
4. You launch the game and logon with your Battle.net account details. (1m)

For point 1 specifically:

Early Install
We will be unlocking the game's installer at 8:01 a.m. PDT on May 14. This will allow you to begin installing the game, troubleshoot any issues you run into (http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-installation-troubleshooting-pc), download and install the launch day 1.0.1 patch, and be ready to play as soon as the servers come online.Source (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/5338015)

You download 99% of the installer now, the “unlocking” above is the final 1% which makes the installer actually install. So once you get your “CD key” in your grubby paws, all you do is add it to your account, download the final 1% and BOOM, welcome to Sanctuary.

Blizzard EU link: http://eu.media.battle.net.edgesuite.net/downloads/d3-installers/589acdb4-c660-318a-b993-01528fad7da6/Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer-downloader.exe

The download itself is approximately 7.6GB and downloads very fast due to the P2P state of the installer. There is a bit of data uploaded too, so budget 8GB.

It’s important to remember that your Battle.net account needs to be a EU Battle.net account and NOT a US account. The easiest way to check this is where you logon to you Battle.net account management. If you go through eu.battle.net, you’re fine.

Please note, that I am about 90% sure that the above is going to happen, based on previous experience and what the interwebz says.

Either way, I am effing stoked. SEE YOU IN THE SANCTUARY

It is interesting indeed. I wonder if you can download the files on one PC,and then install them on another? I'm not back in Jozi until Monday night, and I don't have the cap on my JHB account to download the files here. I could get them down over the weekend and then bring them up to install Monday evening.

I'll check it out. Thanks Phats.

You can very well download and keep the install files on a flash disk or whatever, for easy transport. It will act as the installation "CD".

Once you have installed the game, you can merely copy the actual game directory even. Such is Blizzard goodness. But remember, you'll only be able to do this on Monday 8:00AM PDT (about 17:00 here) in any case.

That will work for when I go back to CPT next Thursday.

Hey guys. Been away this weekend, but haven't seen a post in this thread about the Installer changing. Previously, you could DL the installer to be ready to rock @ release (after the "final patch"). Blizzard recently posted this:

We became aware of an issue affecting the previously available German and EU English versions of the digital install downloader for Diablo III, which would not download all the necessary files. If you've pre-downloaded the digital version of the game in these languages before 10:00 AM CEST (9:00 AM GMT) on Saturday May 12, you must obtain the new downloaders to be able to install properly once the game is released on May 15. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask that you please let friends and acquaintances know so they can begin downloading the working installer that's now available.

1. Obtain the new Diablo III digital downloader using the links below
2. Point the download save at the same directory as before
3. If you chose the correct directory only 50MB will need to be downloaded to fix your install, otherwise you'll re-download the entire ~7.6GB

New EU English Installer (http://eu.media.battle.net.edgesuite.net/downloads/d3-installers/589acdb4-c660-318a-b993-01528fad7da6/Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer-downloader.exe)
New EU English Installer (Mac) (http://eu.media.battle.net.edgesuite.net/downloads/d3-installers/589acdb4-c660-318a-b993-01528fad7da6/Diablo-III-8370-enGB-Installer-downloader.zip)

(*i removed the German links*)

Whether you repair your previous install or download the entire game again, it's necessary to use this new downloader to install and play the game when it launches.

If you've previously DL'd the 7.6GB install files, all it does is update those.

I found the instaler on the WUG when I got home on Thursday and downloaded from there. Then this monring, I noticed that it was the US version :(

The GB version was downloading far too slowly today, it would take about 2 days to fully download. So I guess I'll have to install from disk tomorrow night. :(
