after seeing the grrr forums spammed by the cod threads, i decided to install again, and see what all the fuss is about.
firstly i noticed...holy shite!!!! there are over 50 servers listed in south africa, and on any given night the servers are rocking.
it takes time to get used to the menu, and populating my favorites list, but i take the time and eventually join a server.
my first round is a fail!! 0 kills and 45 deaths, and im thinking to myself.... :hmmm: fuck this!!
but i continue to try.....
why is it always easier to kill team mates that the enemy?
but i keep playing
i have now a total playing time of 5+ hours and finally i finished a round with more kills than deaths :hooray:
i am still totally lost on all maps, as one cant really learn the layout with the extremely fast pace of the game.
i think im starting to like cod4 a little, so i will continue to play for the time being, but this is in no way my long term game of choice
me thinks i will attend some praccies in due time
see yall on the servers

On public server COD4, the key is in the weapons and perks that you have available. You'll only get these over time.

If you want to see what COD4 competitive is like (far slower paced), join the tactical servers on SGS. At least one of these uses promod, which is the comp ruleset that is used, and even if the server isn't running promod it'll be running the Search & Destroy game mode which comp games are based on.

Joining the Team Deathmatch server is the best way to rank up as fast as possible, cause there's no respawn delay, and you just get to kill stuff. Also, if you want to rank up even quicker, stick to one primay weapon until you have got all of the marksman achievements with that weapon (usually three levels, each one unlocking you an attachment (t00b, silencer, red-dot sight, grip, acog-sight etc.) - all based on number of kills with the weapon), as they give you mucho experience points. Once you have all of those achievements, move on to another weapon and start again. It will also give you a chance to experience every weapon in the game, and get enough use with it to learn how to use it effectively. I found that every time I switched to a new weapon, I couldn't do shit with it, but after a few rounds, it starts becoming more natural to use.

COD gets better the more you play it (like any game, I guess). You'll find that your reaction time will get better as you play, and the experience is an enjoyable one.

Agreed draggs, if you want to learn the layouts of the maps, and see how the game gets played in a more competitive mode, promod servers on S&D mode are the way to go.

* puts on iGame admin hat *

SGS' Tactical Comp servers have been quite shitty for a long time now tbh, most of the people nowdays stick to the iGame Promod Open 1 & 2 servers. In promod there's no ranks, everyone gets the same guns, the same two perks (bandolier & stopping power) and it's a far better balanced game. Also in S&D mode where there's no respawning, the gameplay is a lot slower.

Plus there are none of those st00pid :die: stun grenades in promod.

If you want to try it out base, iGame's promod servers are:

iGame Promod Open 1 - S&D mode: 196.2.97.214:28964
iGame Promod Open 2 - S&D mode: 196.2.97.211:28963
iGame Promod TDM (Team Deathmatch): 196.2.97.211:28960

* removes iGame hat *

Enjoy :)
