Hi All,
Recently I started reading up again on the ISP packages etc.
Currently I am using a 512mb mweb uncapped account.
When I went to go check the site today I noticed that the 512 package is no longer available and I am paying the price of the 1mb line.....
So this have gotten me wondering, why am I only getting 512 line speed? what is the requirements to have 1mb connectivity, is it dependent on Telkom having the infrastructure?
Also when did the packages change like this?
Have telkom pushed up all 512's to 1mb's uniformly?
If anyone is a bit more up to date with the broadband news, help me here?
Also with Iggy having moved out I was also considering downgrading my adsl to a 384 to try and save some costs. Who has a 384 line and is it sufficient for gaming?
Thanks in advance!
I can only answer the 384 question. I have a 384 line and my ISP is Telkom. With everything included it costs about R550 (teleline rental, adsl line, 9GB ISP package)
FOr gaming it is perfect, there is no lag or anything like that. The problem is big updates or downloads. I think my line is particularly slow but it takes about 24hrs to download 1GB.
So if you play something that has a couple 100 meg updates every now and then, you might run into trouble

Telkom upgraded all 512kb lines to 1Mb for free. So your line can do 1Mb, but your uncapped account is throttled to 512kb. If you want 1Mb uncapped, which means you can download more in a month, you need to pay your isp a little more because you are able to download more in a month otherwise your isp will leave you on a 512kb uncapped.

Paul, for an extra R70 or so per month (R499 line rental from WA, R120 phone line rental from Telscum), you can get a 4MEG line from WebAfrica, altho it is only a 5gig data bundle. It are frikken fast tho.

The advantage of WA packages is that they are peered to MWEB, so there are no issues gaming on MWEB or Sperm Count servers
