Imagine Fallout 3 mixed with the Co-op of L4D. .. . From everything I've read bout this game, it's gonna be EPIC, like truely epic. With completely random weapon generation (16Million possiblites has been guestimated) RPG eliments, vehicle combat, etc etc etc. . . whats not to like.

I'm quite keen on the APB game. Looks sweet, but no news on when it'll be released yet.
Looks like a mmo of GTA.
I'm so not gonna play a good guy...

Okay boys and grrrls, take a read of this: http://pc.ign.com/articles/103/1036211p1.html

Still not convinced? Try this one: http://www.atomicgamer.com/article.php?id=899

Borderlands is definitely looking like teh MP title to have this year, especially now that MW2 has fallen apart with it's no dedicated server policy...

Now, here's a thought. Much like Left4Dead (and we all know how cool that game is), Borderlands has 4 player co-op, kinda like a FPS Titan quest with lots of loot to be gathered.

Also much like Left4Dead, the game can curerntly be bought on Steam as a multi-pack. For $135, four copies of the game can be purchased (that's effectively 4 for the price of 3 - or <$34 a piece (~R270).

Now I'm more than happy to pay R270 for this game, based on the reviews I've read. What I need though, are three other people that share my enthusiasm. Insert your name below if you're keen, and we can get the pre-orders in. Note that the game is out on the 26th October, that's just a week from now!!

I want to ravage a post-apocalyptic wilderness with my mates, killing indiscriminately, and collecting tons of lovely loot:

1. Drag
2.
3.
4.

I've been burned often enough, buying games based on how the publicist and developers rave about it, to learn that it's best to get the community's feel for the game before I buy it, but never get to play it coz no one else bothers.
Games like Frontlines, Crysis online, Splinter Cell online come to mind.

It seems this 'small group co-op' idea has taken off... there are a few titles on the horizon using this principle (L4D2, Borderlands, Interstellar Marines, Aliens vs. Predator: something-or-other, etc.).
Even Dawn of War 2 could be played co-op, but that wasn't so great coz Live voice comms is FUBAR...

If you havent pre-ordered, I can buy the 4 for 3 and send it to ja in steam, you can then just send me the cash? You all in favour?

How does that work Lee?

I am sort of in favour... but i REALLY want the box set. I would imagine that it eliminates then?

J_Th4ng
20-10-2009, 02:19 PM
Yep, it eliminates the box set. You are getting a Steam version of the game i.e downloaded copy.

However, there is one BIG advantage to this. As we have discovered playing L4D and Titan Quest, the steam community functions and friends list make it very easy to get an adhoc game going at any time.

The normal version will most liely be a stand alone install, and therefore won't link in to Steam at all. Easy to get missed off game invites that way...

SoSheOhPathix
20-10-2009, 02:39 PM
You can add non-Steam games to the Steam list...

I'd be willing to try it out. Maybe if there are 8 of us... we can do 2x 4 games fer da price of 3 ?

SlipperyDuck
21-10-2009, 07:10 AM
Well I've purchased it and sent the Steamcopy to Drags n Mega. Phatso might want the box, just let me know mate coz if you still want the box instead - thats fine, we've got Slodaz who's interested and I'll send it on to him. It works out to R257 for the license on steam via me, not sure what the box copy would be.

All good lads. I am going for the boxed version :)

J_Th4ng
21-10-2009, 08:43 AM
Nice one Lee :) Now just need to get the game downloaded and installed in time for Monday!! :)

Phatso, with any luck the box copy will also support Steamworks (i.e. you'll be able to install on Steam even with a retail disk), although this is unlikely. There are few Steamworks games available at the moment. Steam is a very good channel for running these kind of co-op games, it's made it very easy for us to setup and run games of TQ and L4D in the past.

Regardless, as long as you get the game, we'll have a decent group to MP with.

SlipperyDuck
21-10-2009, 08:55 AM
Cool, that settles it, Daz, you in for a Steam copy?

Can anyone help an old guy out with the Steam backup file??? Pretty please? :'(

SlipperyDuck
28-10-2009, 02:52 PM
There ain't no steam backup yet - not until it's full release. As it stands, we don't know if we can get it working with the copied pre-load that i sent to the capetondeafs.
So either we wait fo that, or you wait until Friday night when the steambackup option becomes available.

Either way it's a wait :( soz

I don't get to try it out this weekend either. . .Friday night i'm off with Family for the weekend at MidMar Dam. *sigh
Sunday night FTW.

Am downloading the pre-load now but only sitting at 19% after having started last night. Damn you gotta love a 512K line :( Hopefully I'll be able to play on the weekend though.

Anybody heard about a patch? I hear there is a 'slight' glitch in the coop where joining/leaving a game can result in you resetting your scores :atomic:

Any ideas?

... and i have a copy too. :hooray:

Just did a little reading on teh Steam forums, and it appears that you can't backup/restore pre-load files. You have to download them again if you lose them. So, Lee, would you be able to send through a backup to me once the game is unlocked? I doubt that I'll download the files over the weekend, 7GB will kill off most of next month's cap.

Unless of course the other Capetonian owners want to share the cost of the bandwidth to download the game? However, at R70/GB, that'll work out prety pricey, even between the three of us.

I'm not overly stressed, I still need to get my PC sorted out and working properly.

Did the install last night. All I was asked to specify was the install directory. The game isn't added onto steam. If I look at my steam account its there. Its not launched through steam though. So.... i'm not sure....

.... anyway. Played it. Its awesome fun. The way things are animated is a bit different, but works nicely. Chose to play with Brick, the beserker class. Not having any trouble soo far. Got a nice assault rifle, that being said it only has a 12 round mag and fires 2 rounds per click... so occassionally things get a little exciting :gun:

Unlocked the base ability, which enables you to punch your opposition in a frenzied attack. Its quite manic. Got 3 skill points to assign, still.

Game looks good.

Well, mine activated @ 2am - so when i checked this morning it was all decrypted - - woot.

Done a SteamBackup for Jarod - So he'll have to PM his address for me to send it.

Otherwise, I havent checked it out.

Peeps have had nothing but good things to say about the game, so I'm stoked...we're in for a fun ride!

If your PC hadn't broken down half way through, you wouldn't have had to download 12GB. Not our fault :ras:

Besides, we went the Steam route coz we got the game cheaper that way, based on a 4 for 3 deal.

I'm a little sad that I won't be playing this weekend, but I can wait an extra day or two for the backup to arrive from Durban...

Game is installed and running :woot:

Found a webafrica 10GB trial account that I hadn't used, and downloaded through the night :D

Now I just have to burn a couple of backups for Geth and J0nno, and we're all sorted.

Sunday night's meet, greet and massacre is back on!! :happy2:
