The team at Digital Extremes has been working hard with Kaos Studios in order to deliver the best possible experience and tailor many aspects of Multiplayer specifically to the core PC audience.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">THE HEADLINES</span><span style="color: red;">: </span></div> <div></div> <div>We can officially confirm that Homefront will be a Steamworks title making good use of Valve&rsquo;s excellent toolsets. Steam was simply the best choice to deliver the features we needed on PC. Shameless plug &ndash; Homefront is now available to pre-order on Steam right here:<span style="font-size: 9pt;">http://store.steampowered.com/app/55100/</span> (http://store.steampowered.com/app/55100/)</div> <div></div> <div>We also confirm the Official Recommended Specs for the game. A few websites this week released what they claimed to be the official specs, most weren&rsquo;t.Read on for the final word from Kaos and Digital Extremes.</div> <div></div> <div>Finally, we wanted to confirm that you&rsquo;ll be able to enjoy Homefront in glorious 3D on PC thanks to full NVidia 3D Vision support. We showed it off at CES earlier this year, it looked rad.</div> <div></div> <div>The guys at Bash & Slash recorded a podcast with Digital Extremes & KAOS Studios that covers a load more detail, so click the link for even more info!
bash.podbean.com/2011/01/29/bash-177-homefront/ (http://bash.podbean.com/2011/01/29/bash-177-homefront/)</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">PC SPECIFIC FEATURES</span></div> <div></div> <div>We thought long and hard about the additional features the PC community would appreciate and expect.</div> <div></div> <div>From a gameplay standpoint, we&rsquo;ve done some additional work on the vehicles. On PC, you&rsquo;ll be able to control all vehicles from the 1st person cockpit viewpoint as well as 3rd person. We also added additional control options for helicopters, to give those players looking for more sim-like controls something to get their teeth round. There are three settings:</div> <div></div> <div style="margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="">o<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Ace: Allows for the best maneuverability, but takes the most practice to master.</div> <div style="margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="">o<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Veteran: Balanced difficulty and maneuverability.</div> <div style="margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="">o<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Rookie: Pick-up-and-play level of difficulty, least maneuverable.</div> <div></div> <div>We&rsquo;ve included a Practice Mode so you can get to grips with vehicle controls outside the pressures of a live match. No need in wasting your hard earned Battle Points!</div> <div></div> <div>Lastly, we added some extra vehicle abilities for co-pilots, such as a Recon function to the Scout heli, and we obviously support joystick control for all vehicles.</div> <div></div> <div>In terms of other gameplay changes - we introduced a Squad Management system for PC, with Squad based VOIP. We also offer Clan Support on PC, and we&rsquo;ll be tracking more post-match statistics on the PC platform. As stated above, we&rsquo;re a Steamworks title and we use Valve Anti-Cheat to counter cheaters.</div> <div></div> <div>We also feature Multiplayer Match Recording (check out the podcast for more info), and we&rsquo;ll be releasing a Dedicated Server Browser Executable to allow you set your own private Homefront servers within 2 weeks of launch. LAN support in there as well!</div> <div></div> <div>Finally, a few tweaks you&rsquo;d expect as standard - we optimized the UI to make it more PC / Mouse friendly. We support SLI / Crossfire configurations for extra performance, and we support 3D through NVidia&rsquo;s 3D Vision if you have the appropriate hardware.</div> <div></div> <div align="center"><u>FAQ</u></div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Will there be a PC Beta/Demo?</span></div> <div>Right now the teams at Kaos Studios & Digital Extremes are working hard on finishing the game at the highest level of quality possible. Of course we&rsquo;d love to release a public Demo, but this would detract efforts from the main game.</div> <div></div> <div>Rest assured, we have conducted a lengthy private Beta on the PC to help us fine tune the game, so any Demo would be for promotional purposes only.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Will a Dedicated Server Executable be provided?</span></div> <div>Definitely, we&rsquo;ve been listening to what the PC audience is looking for and that file will be provided for use. We know it&rsquo;s been disappearing from the FPS space and want to support the core PC gamer where we can. We need to test the dedicated server infrastructure at ship with the influx of traffic and bug reporting, so we plan to release this within two weeks of the PC title hitting shelves.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Will there be Mod Tools?</span></div> <div>Not at launch, no. Right now the team is hammering away at the game, building those tools for Community use would take away resources that are needed on the final game. The good thing is: Mod Tools don&rsquo;t need to be in a box, so if the PC Community is supporting Homefront, we have the option post-ship to provide the Community with something like that.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">What&rsquo;s with the Microsoft deal, why are they getting the extra map and DLC first? What happened to PC?</span></div> <div>We&rsquo;re trying to release a brand new IP in a really competitive space, and we need as much help as we can get to drive awareness for this game. Microsoft came to us early on, loved what they saw, and offered a ton of marketing support. That support will help lift the profile of all three formats. Having them say; We love the game, it looks great & we want to support it &ndash; is also a great morale boost for the studio, and really validates all the effort going into the project.</div> <div></div> <div>But this is a business right, and you never get something for nothing! Given the fantastic level of support we&rsquo;re getting from them, offering an extra map and an exclusive window on DLC in return seemed like the best thing for Homefront</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">How many players in Multiplayer on PC?</span></div> <div>Homefront will support 32 player servers on PC when the game ships. Our large maps actually play best with that number. We found that the critical factor in delivering &lsquo;Large Scale Warfare&rsquo; is less to do with having hundreds of players, and more to do with the density of players in each game.</div> <div>That said, maximum player count on PC is something we can look at and potentially change if the demand is there for it!</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Is there environmental destruction?</span></div> <div>Only low-level, mostly superficial destruction &ndash; why you ask? Our Creative Director, Dave Votypka has this to say about environmental destruction:</div> <div></div> <div style="margin-left: 0.25in;">In pre-production we experimented with dynamic destruction, but found that this actually detracted from the experience. We use what we call &lsquo;environmental narrative&rsquo; throughout our level design to tell the story of occupied USA, and allowing this environment to be destroyed takes away a lot of what we achieve with this. In multiplayer, because of our focus on lots of vehicles with heavy firepower on the map at all times, destruction would remove a lot of the structures we placed there to support the infantry game and help balance that infantry versus vehicle mechanic. For example, in our map &lsquo;Farm&rsquo; there&rsquo;s a wooden church with a belfry that&rsquo;s perfect for sniping. If we allowed this to be destroyed early in the game, it would remove that tactical option from the map for the rest of the match.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">What are the server requirements?</span></div> <div>Server requirements are actually pretty low, such that more processing power simply yields the ability to run more servers concurrently.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Will there be Linux Support?</span></div> <div>No dice, sorry guys.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">What anti-cheat measures are you utilizing?</span></div> <div>Valve Anti-cheat is included, as well as a number of other techniques for protecting content, executable code, and game memory.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Will there be any kind of tournament support?</span></div> <div>Demo recording support will be available on dedicated and listen servers. Also, automated demo recording upload is possible with some simple scripting. There&rsquo;s Steam-Group based Clan Support, Player Stats, & Leaderboards.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Will there be Spectator mode?</span></div> <div>Yup, via the admin commands.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Are there server admin tools?</span></div> <div>Yes, dedicated server tools and RCON.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Will there be Eyefinity Support?</span></div> <div>Not initially, but this is something we could add if there is strong demand for it.</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Steamworks seems to be the mostly-likely DRM solution for the PC release. Will this mean that Online Pass will not be implemented for the Steam versions of the game?</span></div> <div><span style="color: black;">There will be no online pass for PC Homefront. DRM is something we take very seriously from the end user point of view. While some form of DRM is vital, we want it to affect the user experience as little as possible. Our DRM is Steamworks based, and will require the user to have a Steam client (to which they need to log in during the installation process). Steamworks DRM is the least intrusive that we have seen, and it does not require the user to keep original disks. Since we are also distributing the game via Steam, it is the obvious choice.</span></div> <div></div> <div align="center"><u>OFFICIAL HOMEFRONT PC SPECS</u></div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Minimum Spec</span></div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2.8GHz</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>2 GB RAM</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Shader Model 3.0 graphics card with 256MB of memory</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS or ATI Radeon 1900XT</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>10GB of free hard drive space</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Recommended Spec</span></div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Windows Vista or Windows 7</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Intel or AMD Quad Core 2 GHz+ CPU</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>2 GB RAM</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>NVIDIA GeForce 260 or ATI Radeon 4850</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>10 GB of free hard drive space</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">NVIDIA 3D Vision Recommended Spec</span></div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>3D Compatible NVIDIA GeForce 480/570 Series GPU</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>3D Vision-Ready Display</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Intel Core i7 processor</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>2 GB RAM</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>Windows Vista or Windows 7</div> <div style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span>&middot;<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span>10GB of free hard drive space</div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Need to know more?</span></div> <div></div> <div><span style="color: red;">Why not check out the Podcast with Bash & Slash featuring the following guys from KAOS / Digital Extremes:bash.podbean.com/2011/01/29/bash-177-homefront/ (http://bash.podbean.com/2011/01/29/bash-177-homefront/)</span><font class="Apple-style-span" color="#FF0000">

Although this looks promising, I can't plough my time into more than 3 games at a time.. Lest I wish to suck at all of them.

(does look good and hit-reg that works is ALWAYS a winner-wena)

Ah Jarrod.. you HAD to play that card :( My rubber arm is being twisted inside out right now..

I have been trying to get into BC2 (again) and what about Vietnam? Bought that on a whim, love it, but I don't find a game often enough. Or is BC2 overs (once this little 4v4 league is done)?

Portal 2 in April, then Dues Ex HR, followed by BF3. (I have purposely decided to skip Brink and Duke Forever) ... Too many games dude. I like making purchases of games like investments. The longer I can play the game, the more likely I am to spend the dosh for it.

Will Homefront be the BC2 "temp-successor" till BF3? Or will people play it for a bit and go back to BC2?

*edit : FFS.. trailer feaver again.. The trailer looks too good. Fast paced, real weaponry.. Helicopters. Its screaming at me to get it.. hmmmmmmm

Vietnam games are few and far between. I always check the Vietnam server first if there are 3 or 4 okes on I join hoping more peeps will. Sundays does seem to be regular now

What Paul means is that last night the Vietnam server got going (it failed last week).

For me Homefront is (hopefully), the game to play until BF3 is released. Due to the lack of destructible terrain, and the fact that it uses the Unreal 3 engine and netcode, I think of it as a kind of BF2.5 i.e Better graphics and netcode than BF2, but missing the destructible terrain and OMG graphics of BF3.

Also, TBH, the fact that it has choppers but not jets works for me. I don't like jets in the game. I'm not a pilot, and avoided the Vanilla BF2 servers most of the time due a severe aversion to getting the shit bombed out of me every 20 seconds.

Homefront at the very least should have a decent SP campaign (the story is written by the guy who wrote 'Red Dawn', and co-authored 'Apocalypse Now'. MP looks to be decent too, I like the idea of the battlefield commander, the drones, and the fact that battlefield points should make rounds get more intense as they progress. Factor in a squad based structure (complete with VoIP), and an extended conquest mode (Three sets of three points. Cap all three points in a set, and the map area moves over to another series of three points. If you cap those, you win. Alternatively, the opposition could push you back again and then on to the three points nearest your base), as well as a 'normal' conquest mode and you have the makings of a decent game. There are also the usual ranking up structures and unlocks that go with it.

It's definitely wortha look...

Some dedicated server details:

* There will be no option to change spawn times or the weapons available to the players.
* No hardcore mode is included, so tough luck for the gamers who liked to kill and die quick. This is done mainly to preserve the competitive aspect. :wootdance:
* Servers will be able to run in ‘mixed mode’, which will alter the game-types of the server automatically.
* There will be a “Message of the Day” support, and the option to make servers private is also a possibility.
* Admins will be able to toggle auto-balancing on and off, force a player to spectate, and switch members to a team. Hopefully autobalance works in this game
* The dedicated servers do not required Steam Client to be logged in. :wootdance: LAN Servers are possible
* Developers are considering a patch that will allow a Ready-up Timer, Halftime team-switching/side switching and round numbers selection.
* For those who are interested in prematurely learning about the server variables, here they are:
o Server Name
o MOTD
o Game Mode (easy to have mixed mode)
o GC Score Limit
o TDM Score Limit
o Time Limit
o Internet (off for LAN)
o Vac Secured
o No of Slots
o Game Port
o Query Port
o AdminPassword
o GamePassword
o Friendly Fire
o No Vehicles
o Record Demo

Well, from the console videos of Homefront 2 I've looked at, I'm not impressed. Graphics look very subpar compared to BC2, so hopefully the pc version has much better graphics.

Don't think I will be getting this. Doesn't look near as good as BC2 to me.

J_Th4ng

Graphics wise, it won't tough BC2. It's Unreal 3 technology, so no destructible terrain either.

It's the gameplay that I'm after, also the prospect of some new environments, weapons, unlocks, and of course shiny to collect.

I'll be honest guys, after giving it some hard thought, I might might might get this.
I REALLY like the "twitch" factor of it and it looks like a heap of fun.

I will however wait for a few weeks after release to make my decision. I know that ain't ideal, but its a step closer than "i am not getting it".

Most fish don't mind the rain... they live in water.

The one's I eat, however, live in boxes labelld 'I&J' and are invertibrates, having an exoskeleton very similar to those found on Schnitzels.

Oh, I've met the two Lads that "hunt" these for your convenience:

Baseline, I thought teh same thing. I bought Frontlines Fuel of War a while ago thinking the drones would be the next big thing in shooters. THQ robbed me in broad daylight and I'm scared they will do the same here...

Still has it's bugs.
Also, takes a little getting used to, but at the end of it....I started doing purdy well in the MP.

havent tried the SP campaign @ all.

Snipers seem to be over-powered, one shot kills.

There's a lot similarity to be drawn from the COD regeime, black-ops in particular, with the earning ingame battlepoints, then using those to get new weapons, new scopes, camo and gadgets, etc etc. Also the same can be said for the ranking, seems to be similar in that you get Level ranking requirments for certain unlocks, plus weapon leveling challenges.
The Hitreg is spot on, there's a lot of TWITCH factor in the game, put down to the Hitreg.
Where it is unlike COD, is the biggish maps and game modes and direct controllable vehicles and unlocks.

Overall, I'd say this game has a lot of great potential. I'm not sure if it was me, but squad VOIP seemed un-responsive (much like Frontlines). The Vehicles do suffer from that plastic feel, due to the lack of Mouse deceleration and acceleration, so there turrets for example, do not feel like they are heavy and require torque to move.

There are a few annoyances, for example, you use up/down left/right aiming for your ground turret thing, but if you get in a Helo, the up/down is inverted, if you change the AIR mouse control to invert, it also inverts your turret.
So you have to get yourself used to the AIR invert rather, since it's unlikely that you will spend a lot of time in the air.

I must say, I did get a massive streak at one stage and bought myself the Helo, and RINSED....that thing is most definetly potent.

I really REALLY like the priority battle commander thing, marking enemies as priority targets, getting a general (within 100m) localization of a target to hunt. IT REALLY WORKS WELL.

All in all, I think it's a good purchase.

Others need to give their views, as I know it has it's faults....

I for one, think it worked quite well and am quite happy with it and I'm sure patches are in-comming for the Faults.

It's a Steam game, so if you buy it off the shelf, like I did, be prepared for the two hour wait, while Steam destroys your account cap, to download enormous chunks of data, just to do the initial installation.
2 Hours @ 800 kps... it says it has around 4 Gb to DL, but Steam is retarded. What it says, and what the online account monitor says, after the DL, are usually radically different.

I've read in a few forums that people have bought retail copies and still had to download close on 9GBs. Crazy stuff, that's about the size of the full game files. I downloaded over Steam, and it was about a 9.4GB download.

Seems that the installer disk is not configured properly, if you have to download the entire game even though you have the DVD.

I've also had some problems with the game. I play with inverted mouse, and the game won't retain my settings. So, I set it to invert in the options menu, and it resets itself after about 5 seconds of game time. I'm therefore unable to play the game until it gets sorted out.

Pisses me off that games can have such simple bugs. I'm also not very happy about the fact that this game truly is a console port, despite what Kaos said to the contrary. The proof of this? Well, every time it gives you instructions for how to do something, it lists the console controller buttons, not the keyboard/mouse bindings that you may have selected.

From what I've seen of the single player (the 5 minutes that I've actually played, it looks quite impressive. Graphics are nowhere near as bad as some people are saying on the Steam forums, in fact it looks pretty good (not BC2 good, but definitely pretty). The storyline looks to be pretty immersive too, the initial bus sequence is quite disturbing in parts, and it looks fairly believable.

Hopefully i'll be able to jam some more soon, and give MP a whirl too.

It would appear, then, that there is a difference between the DL game, and the retail version.
Mine cues buttons like 'LMB', 'RMB', 'E', etc. when playing, not console buttons.

The SP game is very linear, with some annoying characteristics.
The AI characters get in the way. Thay can block you from entering doorways and getting to vantage points, and the 'cutscenes' (which just happen without warning, or any obvious break, during play) can be pretty irritating although I suppose they are supposed to be giving you info (but it doesn't seem to be critical intel, rather babbling by your colleagues).
And figuring out how and when to pick up ammo and weapons took me a while. Seems you can have more than one 'primary' (like an SMG, SCAR, M4) unless the game decides otherwise and sometimes just takes them away from you when they feel that the weapon they want you to have is better.

Don't bother trying to protect your buddies. They are immortal. A tower cannon can pwn hell out of them and they won't die. Not so much for you. You can even fire through them (tried to kill one for getting in my way too often, and ended up killing KPA soldiers behind him). Also, don't worry about keeping up with them. They will wait forever for you to stack up on their position before they move on, so feel free to go foraging for weapons and ammo before running after them.

IMO, the MP is better than the SP game, but lacks detail that was offered by BF to date.
Would be nice if I could find an online game that actually had some players in it though...

Nice thing is, you can host online games if you want to set up a clannie or something. You don't have to rely on companies hosting local servers.

Ummm... question.

How do you find online games that are actually populated?
When I go to MP, the list usually only shows one or two servers with a piong below 300, and they never have players on them.

While playing with a drone is all very interesting, it would be nice to have someone to shoot at.

That's odd. I normally see at least 5 servers with low ping, but not necessarily with players on them.
Did you try to refresh the server list with the "update" button on the bottom right of the MP screen? I had to do this once when it didn't list any servers at all.

Lee, Jarrod, Lep and I played a bit last night. You should jump on TS when you are playing and we can get a game going!

So there's no in-game VOIP?

I did refresh, a few times. Only serer below 100 was one in CPT, but with no players, so I gave up.
I have yet to find a populated game to join.
Seems this will be another Frontline: Fail of War...

There is in-game VOIP, but no one seems to hear me when I've tried it and I haven't ever heard anyone either.

There was definitely one full server going last night, although they were playing TDM, which isn't particularly enjoyable.

I dunno if the in-game VoIP works, but you should rather join TS with us anyway. Then you can find out what server we're playing on (if we're playing). You know our channel password, I assume? If not, let me no and I'll PM it to you.

I hope that this game doesn't go the way of FFOW, although I wouldn't be surprised if it does. There isn't a great deal of community support, and the SA community isn't large enough to support many games.

Having said that, there were two servers going last night (one of them full). That's not bad going, and hopefully will pick up over time.

Being as we haven't seen you on a server for a looooong time, I suggest you wait on any online game until you're able to join the mayhem again :ras:

Ion, probably a good idea. For me the game is fun, but it doesn't look like there is going to be a large community for it.

As long as there are enough people to fill a server though, I'll enjoy a bit of it.

I just decided to join a server... screw the server ping.
The server ping was listed at 450-ish, but when I was actually in the game, my ping was around 30.
So, clearly, it makes little difference what the server list says... just look for a populated game, and join.

Man, that chopper is a pain. Argh!

Finished the SP in 8 hours.... As Jules mentioned its very linear and nothing really to write home about.
There was also no great finale... to me it seemed like the game just ended suddenly. I was still waiting for the next fight when credits started scrolling.

^ Seconded.
The ending was weak, to say the least.
Actually, the whole SP campaign was pretty weak, IMHO.
