http://www.grrr.co.za/forum/MGalleryItem.php?id=28They remade the movie, so you already know the story... scary dude in dreams is whacking kids as revenge, on the premise that whatever happens to you in your dreams, happens in reality.

Unless it's something arb like stubbing your toe or banging your pip on a pipe, while running about in a steam-filled boiler room, barefoot, in your jammies, of course. Imagine how pissed Freddy would get, if he chased some half-naked screaming teen, only to watch her fall down a staircase and break her neck?
That mentioned, how come these kids can run around in the dark, in unfamiliar territory, just fine, despite spending more time looking over their shoulder than where they're going, but on a dead straight sprint, down a street, they can't keep their feet under them for more than 3 consecutive seconds?
They are aware that they are in dreams, so why the f*** do you keep screaming???

Mostly just the disembowelment becomes real...

Having watched the oldie a few days before I rented this, it is a significant upgrade on the original, with regards to effects, acting, makeup. (Much like the Terminator series. I own that box set, and frankly, the T1, I would dance around in front of, teasing, telling him he'd be lucky to catch a magnet with that pace.)

But I reckon the original Freddy (Robert Englund) was scarier than the new one. Relatively speaking, of course. How scary is a dirty old man, shambling about in his rotting jersey and hat, with false bag-lady fingernails, really?
This one looks like a more realistic burn victim, but then he's all shiny like a Mr. Glad-wrap-face, as opposed to the pus-covered, lumpy mess Robert was, pulling bits off himself to scare the kids.

As mentioned the basic story line is unchanged, as have the lead characters/victims names (Nancy, Chris (The victim formerly known as Tina), and so forth). They have incorporated some of the original scenes into the remake, albeit slightly changed (school-sleeping is a case in point), which begs the question... why did they bother doing it? It no longer has cult status. Hell, most kids today don't even know who Freddy Krueger is...
Maybe they want to rekindle the series, which I thought got really weak, right after the pilot film.

All in all, if you're a serious horror fan, as I am, I suppose it's worth watching, but not buying.
I can't say I was disappointed, bcause I knew it was a remake, right from the start.

Thank non-denominational diety we did away with big hair, mullets and shoulder pads... they deserved to die if for nothing more than that. Pray to him that they aren't remaking any more of the Nightmare films...

Love the write ups Jules. Always a good laugh to read.

On that note, i am NOT a horror movie fan AT ALL. My brain already has enough going on it to have more subliminal scares happening *insert hysterical giggle*
