I'd like some constructive criticism. I've done mixes before that I was mistakenly proud of, on various software - Audacity, Fruityloops. SoundTrax.

This is mix I am especially proud of & I realize that you guys probably have more people who are into Trance than the Geeks. I trimmed an hour and a half off this mix to make it palatable to the masses.

Please feel free to offer constructive criticism:

Why would you think that we have more people that listen to trance? We are ROCKERS!!!

I think Phatso and Lee would be our resident experts in this field, they are into the doof-doof

Not so much trance, but definitely big into the house scene... Trance is for hardcore gaming sessions.

Thats quite a big download. Will have a listen laters.

Muscles is a house-track. I just keep going up in the BPM's, and took songs I really liked. Probably a couple of House tracks in there.

OI! Did one of you slackers actually download this mix? Caaaaam on - it's 150MB, that's nothing in this day & age of cheap bandwidth. :p

If it sucks that bad once you've downloaded it, I'll even refund the piffling little bit it cost to download - I need opinions! ;)

Dude the average age at this clan is like 35! We are from a generation that, once the drugs have worn off, can't listen to el doof doofio musika.
Got any heavy metal? Alternate rock? 70's psychedelia?
I got a friend who probably overdid it on LSD and listens to trance, I will try to get him to download it.

Lol, Soz flatty, didnt even know about this thread - been busy prepin a couple of SETS for the GRRR4ge2010 tour.

I'm into mixing Jackin/Deep/Funky House - I've got about a gazillion (plus minus three or four) tracks.

I'm gonna be brining my ultra-portable Numark OMNI and my laptop with a set of SAMSON 40A monitor speakers - really ultra portable DJ rig that.

Anyway, just for a bit of fun and entertainment @ rage.

I like the mix, good track selection, with me, I have long transitions between tracks 40sec up to 2min some times so that you almost dont know where a track ends and where one starts. Kudos mate - what did you use to mix em - software ?
With me I do it with Decks n Control surfaces like the Numark mixing desk. I fade tracks into each other by dropping in/out HIGH/MID/BASS as i get through other tracks.
All in all - a really good mix - nice one

A little bit harder than what I normally listen to, but this is really good to listen to while gaming..
Although a house/funky/acid jazz fan at heart, the harder stuff was made to listen to while gaming for some reason.

The mixing was slick and the song order was mint too.

I can say one thing for sure though.. the mix really reminded me of some of Armin v Buuren's mixes... :bounce:

(*EDIT: Lee, I need some new tunes, please bring your stuffs to rAge and i'll bring mine. Wish I could get somemore of this good shit Flatspin, but alas, you're not at rAge this year..)

What's age got to do with squat. I'm 40. I was popping Ecstacy back in 1992, and having a whale of a time. I love Cyndi Lauper, Heart, Depeche Mode, The Cure, ZZ-Top, Slade, The Smiths, Sade, and a whole lot of other music from back in the day. This was just about some constructive crtiticism...

SlpperDuck - I guess you bust me. I mixed it using Ableton Studio 8.0. To boot, I didn't even do a live recording with proper transitions. It was a straight recording, matching the beats as best I could, with no Low/Mid/High manipulation at all. I did Ableton a serious injustice with this effort as it offers far greater control than what I attempted. I was just trying to stick to the basics. I don't know if you've ever heard of Munro, he played on Radio 5 once that I know of, had/has his own club/s in PE that I know about. I was privileged enough to do his lighting at a rave we'd organized once...

"Watch this," he said to me. "What?" I asked. I was doing the lighting and already in awe of his serious mixing skills. He didn't have to tell me when to pump the lights, when to make slow dreamy sessions, I could feel it in the music. He actually complimented me on my lighting skills afterwards. "I'm going to make them go off their heads!" he exclaimed. So, I watched. The dancefloor, barely full, had previously been a miasma of disinterested bodies grooving because they couldn't think of anything better to do, continuing its groove as he cut into a slow dreamy session. Slowly, the dancefloor filled up. It wasn't because of the song, he was doing stuff with the decks. It's indescribable. Slowly, but surely, he built up the tempo, until it reached a crescendo. Then the bass kicked in - the previously half-full dancefloor, now full, went nuts. It took him about five minutes, and I seriously had to control my urge to kick the lights throughout. It was like a perpetual orgasm from beginning to end. Guess who played the 5AM 'til close set? Moi. It was that night I was offered a solo gig at Stellenbosch for R1k - we're talking '98, so R1k for an evening's work was a decent amount of money. Close was 12PM BTW.

I understand that mixes require time, which require proper equipment ( as in decks, amplifiers, boof boxes, speakers), which I am hesitant to buy if my peers tell me I suck at music selection, for starters. Mixing with software is never going come close to mixing with proper decks, atmosphere, etc...

I'd really appreciate a "don't give up your day job" or "Go for it" from you, SlipperyDuck. Not that I'm going to give up my day job, I'd never be so dim.

Thanks, Phatso - I have a tendency to go hard. I'm not sure what timeslot I should play, because it depends on the party. I really love slow funky grooves, housey tunes, garage, but I always seem to land up on kicking beats. Maybe that's a weakness?

Thanks to all you all you guys that actually took the time to DL my mix, it means a lot to me, your opinions mean even more. ;)

Flat, very cool mix! I enjoyed it thoroughly! I have added my suggestions and or comments below for you use it don't use it! One thing like everything else anything you do takes practice to do it well, if there is anything I have learnt from 10 years of martial arts training is practice practice practice. Just keep at it and the mixes will get hotter and hotter!

> 31.93 the transition seemed to loose a bit of the pace might have been too slow.

> 35.40 AWESOME Drop! was brilliant!

>38.27 This needed some work was a bit of a double base mix coming through the transition.

>46 - 47 EPIC!!! was a really good mix in!

>66.51 very cool gave me goose bumps and brought back some good times memories :)

>79.20 !!!! wow !

>83.17 ?? not sure what happened there...

Slippery, I'd looooooooove to see you guys at Rage. Unfortunately I have work commitments & didn't really plan on going this year. Now I'm sad - it would have been awesome to meet up with you guys. I have, however, started pushing the Geeks to make a commitment for next year. If all else fails, I'll just hook up with you guys next year, if that's OK?

Thanks, Ice - I'll check your pointers & see what happened where. Thanks for listening.
