A few clan members have experessed an interest in getting new, higher capacity HDD's to take to rAge this year. I figured that instead of PMing/Emailing prices to those interested, I'd just post some pricings here instead.

All from Frontosa, and I got prices on 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB models.

If anyone wants any of these Drives/Enclosures, please post here with your orders. I can pick them up for you down here and bring them up for rAge. I'll front the cash on them, but please be prepared to give me COD for all orders delivered.

Thanks for the informative post Jarrod.

I am looking at these 2 and wondering what exactly the difference is

>Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 st31000528as
>Western Digital caviar Green WD10EARS

Except the price difference, which is nigh negligible, what is the exact difference? Is the WD that much better? I am sorry.. But this whole "cache" story seems to confuzzel me and I like the powersaving, but does it REALLY matter that much?

If speed isnt such an issue then the 5900rpm versions are quite a bit cheaper:

That's a damn good price there Geth. It's in fact the exact same HDD that Frontosa is offering up for R1407, Inclusive. Seems that Prophecy are kicking Frontosa in terms of price on that Drive.

Frontosa are cheaper on the 1GB drive though (R610 vs. R650 - oddly the 1TB 7200 RPM drive is cheaper than the 5900 drive at Prophecy)

Drag, thanks for the offer, but I think I'm going to get one through take2. The drive is only R50 more at take2, and then they deliver it to my door, and if there are any issues, I don't need to bug you to take it back to Frontosa (frontosa can be sticky this way sometimes) to get a replacement, I can just deal with take2 myself.

I am still interested Sir J :)

Any idea's if its worth going for the WD or should I just get a(nother) Barra (my current ones have done fine).

Weird, I replied to this thread over the weekend. Seems my post went AWOL :hmmm:

You'll be absolutely fine with the Seagate. My 2 1.5TB data drives are both Seagate, and they do the job just fine.

The only advantage that teh WD drives have is the fact that they can run at 7200 or 5900RPM, and the cache size, which shouldn't make much of a difference.

Assuming that the drive is to be used for data storage, media streaming and the like, it will serve your needs admirably.

Great stuff.

In that case, I will take x1 "Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 st31000528as , 1TB/1000gb, sata3G , 7200rpm, 32mb cache - 3 years warranty" please.

Payable via EFT or cash @ rAge, whichever is easiest for you :fact:

I'll ask Denis to place the order, as he tends to do a lot more ordering from Frontosa than I do. As such, I'll ask him how he prefers payment.

I'll place the order for you guys, I take it you all want it at RAGE, so there are no "I need it now" problems. Want to just give Jonno a chance to have a chat with his friend on the "need nerd's advise" and then I could place the order all together.
