View Full Version : Epic paintball game

There is going to be an epic paintball game played on 29th August for any Vaalies interested.
The doods have rented a scrapyard (yup, the entire premises), so it'll be a 'semi-urban'-esque battle between the towers of trashed cars, etc.
Anyone interested?
I can give you directions/GPS co-ordinates, prices, what's available there (gas, paintballs, rentals, etc.)
There am a facebook page about it too...

GPS Co-ords:
26°41'52.98"S
27°42'17.66"E
Corner of N1 and Potchefstroom road.
I don't think it's been used before... Someone knows someone that knows someone that owns the scrapyard. Or something like that.
We also use a farm out Centurion way, for bush MilSim (both day and night games), and a 'ghost town' out near Randfontein. Used to be a mining compound, long since disused, so that has buildings, bush, etc. Very suburban combat feel to it, in between buildings, sprinting across streets, lobbing grenades through windows... But those we only use when we organise 'scenario' games, like 'rescue the hostages', or 'sieze the arms cache', and can get enough players together.

I might just be interested in joining that scenario. Need to dust off my paintball gear, it hasn't been used this year yet.

Played some wikkid PB this weekend.
Invented a 'presidential escort' scenario, where you have to get one unarmed member of your team across the field, and into a safe zone, while the other team has to try kill him.
Also, the 'counterstrike' thing, where a bomb (a red rufftote box with a kitchen timer taped to the lid) is planted by the bad guys, and the good guys have to get to it, and remove the timer (read detonator). That turns out to be a mostly ambush firefight game. But great fun if we play it in the SWAT house.
With the right bunch of people, todays' paintball games are really cool.
Mike (Fly) and myself will be going through to Field 19 on the 22nd if you wanna join us, rainy... the more the merrier. It's quite the social gathering. Also, if you have any tech issues with your gear, these guys know their stuff, so they can help you set-up, repair, etc.
We're all grown-ups (30-somethings, to old farts like me), mostly have our own gear (sure, there are a few rentals... we try protect them as far as we can, so they don't get too badly hurt and never come back). Main issue is we generally chrono the markers to 300 for range and accuracy, so it can hurt. But big bruises add character.
TIP: If they say "Let's play Zombie", reply with "Hell , no!"
I shall endeavour to take some photos of my new toys, and post them here.

Let me check my gear this week, but I am pretty sure I'll make the 22nd.
My Angel is set to 300 (with Air), the old Spyder mainly worked on CO2 and I'll have to re-chrono it for use with air.
I don't have specific clothes, but I do have my mask, gloves and neck protector.

Aaah... a speed-baller.
TBH, cammo's are all fine and well in bush MilSim games, but avail you nothing in the speedball or SWAT house games.
I picked up a set of Marpat digi-cams at Kreature in Northgate, and scored a cammo tactical vest with my marker, but it's not really nec.
You can get 'netting' cammos pretty cheap at most PB outlets.
'Blades and Triggers' in Heathway Centre, and 'Paintball Fusion', near Cresta, I recommend. Good range, reasonable prices, and they know what they are talking about.
I was thinking of switching to CA for my marker, but not all fields can refill (Field 19 can) for you. Plus, we are hardly professional. It's more for fun, and inflicting pain on our friends (oh wait... that's covered under 'fun').

Yeah, there was a bunch of us who bought markers and started playing woodball for fun, then got into some amateurish speedball. The idea even was to form a team and start in the B division. Well, here we are, with not a single session played this year. So heck, I am all game. Traded the Angel from a coworker, I have an electronic hopper and a CA bottle.
I still have two CO2 bottles but then I'll have to use the Spyder. Which is fine enough for woodball anyway. I even have a 16" barrel for it...
SoSheOhPathix
11-08-2010, 09:52 AM
That's just sad... get them to dust off their markers and come play.
Bring whatever you like. No one is going to complain.
And Julian (the one that owns the field, not me) has CA if you need refills. TBH, I'm quite keen to switch over to CA, as I believe it is more consistent and accurate than CO2, but am told that it runs out quick when it runs a cyclone too.
End of the day, being a noob, I expect to get pwned, which I do, but I'm getting better...
I had an Angel. A great marker, but I like my toys, and I wanted a MilSim 'replica' marker, so I sorta traded it in (I lost out from a market value perspective, but... pfffft. So what) on a Bravo One Tactical, and added some extra crap to it, for coolness (forward grip, red dot sight, Cyclone feeder, 16' sniper barrel, remote coil, etc.).
Gets pretty frikkin' expensive after a while.
To date, I estimate I've spent about R8k on markers, gear, and sponsoring... not bad for one month. :ffs: <--- my wife
rainynight65
11-08-2010, 01:24 PM
Yes, CA is more consistent than CO2. The pressure is more constant and thus your grouping is tighter. You'll see it when you shoot over a chrono with CA as opposed to CO2, the muzzle speed will vary very little. Your accuracy still depends on your aim though ;) Most electronic markers require CA, as it is a compressed gas, as opposed to CO2 which is liquid and thus will fry the electronic innards (there are a few which will run on both). Changing between CO2 and CA frequently is not that advisable, as you'll have to re-chrono every time. I am not sure which way around it is, but one gives more speed than the other.
Do they have a chrono there? Otherwise I'll take my Spyder to the range this weekend and re-chrono it with air.
SoSheOhPathix
11-08-2010, 03:28 PM
Ja. They got a chrono at the range.
They insist you chrono down to around 250 if you play in the SWAT house, coz you tend to get a lot closer than you do in the bush, or speedball ranges.
They sell boxes of PBs(Slasher @ R350/200 balls), beer, cold drinks, wors rolls (around lunchtime)...
They have shaded tables and seating as well as braai facilities. All very 'rustig'.

11-08-2010, 09:35 PM
@ jules - you did mean R350 per 2000 (not 200) :o
@ rainy - 29th - not 22nd, unless i missed something?
@ you both, i will be bringing both my dive cylinders, so plenty of air, and together with jule's friend, there should be enough.
@ Jules - man, an angel for BT /sigh :) looks good though, really good. my dream is to turn my A5 into an M95.
@ the bushies vs speedies - I will bring my EX speedie gun, that i use as a bush gun (only because i never play speedball) why am i saying that- i actually dont know, maybe cause i think the gun doesnt make the player, and if the marker works for you and you know its intricacies, then it doesnt really matter. :)
SoSheOhPathix
12-08-2010, 09:54 AM
@ Fly... Ja. 2000 PBs. My bad.
The 22nd is a 'regular game' at Field 19 that I'm going to. Don't think I'll be going to the scrapyard game the following week, afterall. There's a weekend club bike trip of about 20 bikes going out to Hazyview that weekend that I'm very keen to go on.
LMAO. I just got a picture of Fly running around with a dive cylinder on his back, and a remote coil running to his marker.
Field 19 has CA cylinders on site to fill CA bottles.
What can I say? The angel looked like a paintball gun. The Bravo (Tippman, not BT) is so much cooler, IMO. Plus, the weight of it is a bonus to me. It handles somewhat more like a real rifle, but is still a bit light.
Bushies... speedies.... tomato.... errr... tomato?
There are shit hot (pro?) speedies that come play at field 19. They are geared up in pure speedie gear, but they maintain in the bush, coz their high end markers are wikkid accurate at range. They generally hold back and pwn anyone that tries to push through to our 'base'. In the speedball range, well... you may be accurate, but we can shit out up to 20PBs/sec (but we do tend to limit markers to semi-auto if there are speedies and rentals playing, otherwise it's just overwhelming for them). You can't shoot me if you can't stick your head out of cover.
End of the day, there are pros and cons to both versions, and it's all really just a game, which we play purely for fun
I just like the look of the MilSim markers.
Also, consider the 'non lethal weapon' application of a marker like mine. I can load 200 balls into my hopper. Mix up pepper balls and solid balls, then fire them all out into someone's face, in 10 seconds. I leave it loaded as such in the house for in case. Natania is not as inclined to kill people as I am.

Lol.
I'm fairly sure that I've sent you directions and GPS co-ords before, but here they are again...
Get onto William Nicol, heading out towards Dainfern/Indaba hotel.
Go straight past both.
Once past Dainfern, you'll go through a dip and up a hill. Up at the top of the hill, on the right, you'll see another PB field called 'The Woods'. That's not it. :D
When going down the hill after that, near to the bottom of the dip, on the left, there's a sign saying 'Field 19'. That is it.
Go down the li'l dirt road a ways, then take the turn to the right where the sign says so. Then you're in the parking lot.
The dirt road bit is only about 150m long, so it won't pwn your car. If Russel can get his 'Pimp my ride' Scooby down there, you can probably get a Gallardo down there, coz his suspension is lower.
Co-ords:
25 deg 57' 28"S, 28 deg 0' 58"E
If you use a cell phone GPS, like me, I can SMS the position to you. Lemme know.

The field only opens at 09h30, so I get there around 10 to gear up, gas up, buy PBs (if I don't get them beforehand), drink my coffee, etc.
SoSheOhPathix
20-08-2010, 10:28 AM
So I am just going to assume you dudes, if you're coming to play on Sunday, will be using your own transport.
I already have a box of 2000 Safcaps 3-2 PBs, so that's covered. If we need more, I'll get them from the range, although they aren't 3-2's, but rather the entry-level Safcaps. So what? It's just a game...
There will also be a few black dudes we are introducing to the game on Sunday... I know, we all want to shoot the darkies, but try be nice.
They are pretty decent guys, and can be very funny.
Consequently, I will be there when the field opens at 09H30.
You know, I actually have to get up earlier on weekends than I do for work, these days... wtf?
Next weekend is a kiddies invitational (how do I keep getting roped into these things? 20+ Children?? All primary school kids! That's my worst nightmare, but I have been elected one of the 'Team captains' and marshal. Hopefully they will all bring their very appreciative, hot single moms with them) as well as the scrapyard game.
The following, is the 'Beirut' urban warfare game, very close to Field 19 (The Woods... you'll drive right past it. It actually used to be the barracks, workshops and whatnot for Armed Response waaaaay back when... when I was their operations co-ordinator (about 16 years ago  ) so I know those buildings pretty well, although they have probably changed somewhat. They certainly had roofs, windows and doors back then)).
Well, hope to see you two on Sunday... and paint you! :snipe:
that's an epic marker Jules, I wish they would do Urban Paint-ball sims in CPT! they only do it once a year during the Navy festival which is not enough! Should start making friends with a scrap yard owner...
They have the normal - BB gun sims not sure what is called but I didn't find that as engaging as paint ball.
SoSheOhPathix
20-08-2010, 12:03 PM
There are actually a couple of MilSim dedicated PB fields in the CT area...
The BB gun game is called Airsoft, and looks like kak to me.
When I was a kid I used to shoot at (and get shot by) my brother with a BB gun. I assure you, a PB hurts a lot more.

Jules, what would be the chances of organising some paintball for any grrrbians interested over rAge weekend? I know I'd be keen, and seeing as there aren't ANY comps for us to play in at the Dome, I suspect we'll hardly be there. Maybe a Saturday or Sunday morning killfest where we can all pwn each other for real - I'm sure there are several grrr players whom you'd be thrilled to introduce to the sharp end of your marker... Just an idea, seeing as it sounds like you have access to an epic venue and all.
Might make for hilarious entertainment to have a weed-fuelled duel - paranoia and adrenaline and all.
Anyone else keen, if it's possible?
SoSheOhPathix
23-08-2010, 10:58 AM
It definitely isn't impossible.
I spoke to Julian (other one) yesterday about 'hijacking' the place they use for 'Beirut' (coming up on 5 September).
He's got no problems with us (read: me) using it for team practices, challenging other teams, etc. but standard range fees will apply (R60/person with own marker).
That would be ideal for a 'Battlefield 2/BC2' game, as it has both ruined buildings and bush to hunt each other down in.
Here's the catch/es:
Chances are, very few of you lot have your own markers, cammos, masks, neck guards, and all that sort of thing. Try flying a marker to Jhb... if it's a MilSim marker like mine, an M4-A1 replica, it's just not gonna happen.
Women MUST wear armour (it's like covert flak jacket, only made out of foam rubber), so for Nite, Onny, and Paul, they will need to be arranged. I have a spare padded tac. vest, which provides some protection, but you really don't want to get shot on the tit! Breast cancer is no one's friend.
We'd need to arrange CO2 or CA (compressed Air. Mike can help there) beforehand. I have 3 CO2 bottles, but we'd need a lot more than that.
We'd also need paint. AT R375/2000 balls for 3-2 (I was well-pleased with their performance yesterday, and they're local!)
Water... lots and lots of it. You'd be amazed how quickly you dehydrate running around hunting each other. Time flies. Next thing you know, you've been at it for 5 hours.
So... how many people are interested? And not like the usual "Ja. We'll all be at practice", but no one pitches grrr thing. If we need to rent markers, we need definite numbers beforehand. Maybe Mike has some...?
The other, far easier way of doing it would be to just invade a field like Field 19/The Woods/Green Boots/River Raiders en mass. Pretty sure, if we have the numbers, I can arrange to have the field closed to the general public for the day, if it's one of Julian's.
Then, rent your gear for R 100/person, which includes overalls (and armour for women), masks, markers, gas, paint... everything you need to play social paintball.
Try get a feel from your peeps, as to how many are keen, from grrr and other clans, maybe?. Once we've got real numbers, and some time to work in, I'm sure we can do something fun and painful.
Don't be afraid of the pain. Ja, it hurts when you get tagged, but the bruises aside, it really only stings for a few seconds. Once you've finished swearing, the pain is gone.
Here is a link to Field 19's site, so you can see the ranges, etc.
http://www.field19paintball.co.za/
So Mike, how polka-dotted are you today?
My legs especially look like I have chicken pox, and I have some beauts on my torso too. There is a really good one, just below my left shoulder, all blue, green, yellow and red, which correlates to a blue mark on my marpat, so that could only have been you.
Edit: Added aerial photo of the Beirut field

ONLY one problem - CO2

Fly.
Are you going to 'Beirut' this Sunday?
We can make the same arrangement as last time if you like/need.
I'm going to BnT on Wednesday to get my marker serviced and upgraded (E-trigger, Apex barrel, folding stock), so I'll buy another box of PBs then (gonna try the next 'grade' up from the 3-2 this time). Some 'nades may come in handy for an urban game too. :psycho:
However, being a far larger event than the casual Field 19 thing, we can't leave gear lying about on tables, etc. so have plenty pods to fill, coz the case will invariably be locked in a car.
Also, you may be interested in this:
I went to The Plastic Shop at Hillfox on Sat. They have really neat 'Ruff Tote' kinda boxes there with wheels and 'pull handle' which are pretty ideal for PB stuff. I scooped the smaller one for around R100, and am gonna modify it to house all my crap (which the missus has already named 'Julians Toy Box'). Considering how much shit you have to carry about, you may wanna look at the larger option, but it'll def be easier than carrying a sports bag, marker, case of PBs, etc. Just drag it along like roller-luggage.
I'll probably be finshed modding mine by the next time I see you, so I'll show you then.
Oh, ja... and WHERE ARE MY PHOTO'S, BITCH?

Hi Jules
ATM i am on for beirut, thanks for the very kind offer.
i can bring along my big umbrella or some personal shade and a small table, and am quite happy for my car to be used as a "hold all" for our equipment. i like your idea of a rough tote with wheels, and will def consider putting all my stuff in ONE box, and then its just the dive tank. PS - you welcome to borrow my extra air cylinder for your marker and i will make sure i have both dive cylinders so we have loads of air.
i had hoped to get my daughter to put another respectable coat of paint on her tank before we took pics, because then the wheels would be on. :)
AND DONT FORGET THE BALL DETENT (anti doubel feed) - little orange goodie that didnt work so hot last time.
@s3xy - lets do a final poll this week, and see who else may be interested. I am keen, and will do some investigation as well.
SoSheOhPathix
30-08-2010, 10:41 AM
Zoot'll probably take his bakkie along, so space in a car isn't the issue.
Hopefully I will have my new wheels by then too,so I'll have loads, too.
But, cool. If I'm still stuck with the *****, *****ing ***** C2, I may take you up on that.
I'm still using CO2 so don't bring air for me. I'll just fill all my tanks on Wednesday, so I'll have 2 spares. Kinda reluctant to switch back and forth between propellants.
CA makes me a tad nervous. If a CO2 bottle blows, you get really cold. If CA bottles blow, you get a wheechair (tac vest + remote coil)
Yeah, I want them to sort that detent, as well as polish and lube the workings, check O-rings, springs, etc. when they fit all the spiffy new bits for me. The way bits and pieces fly whenever I open my marker up, I'd rather just pay someone else to do it for me, and properly, with genuine parts, etc.

Dude.
We am organising a private day/night paintball game on a farm out in Pta.
A 'search and detroy' theme.
Gonna be playing 'vitals only' with medic functions... the whole bangtooty!
Probably be a campover thing, with braai, booze (you saw how it ges with us at 'Beirut'), etc. when we aren't playing.
So far, we have about 20 players.
Perfect opportunity to test that bow rig of yours, in the field.
You interested?

But it's coming together rather nicely.
We have the farm organised.
We have 14 players so far. Ok, 15 now.
More will sign up.
I'm going to check out the farm on the weekend with Russel. It's his mate that owns the farm.
Once we know exactly what we're up against, we'll arrange HPA and CO2 refill systems, water and power (not sure if we're going gas, or if I am taking my genny, yet).
Then we'll arrange the date, but there will be plenty of notice given.
