Hi guys
My daughter has a project to build a bloody historical transport of some kind, and she wants to build the %$# Titanic. I convinced her to let me ask you all if maybe someone has a model plane or boat lying half (or not half) built in their garage that they would be willing to let my 9 year old have a go at finishing.
thanks
Sorry dude, never got into the whole model building thing.

I have a half-built '85 Yamaha XT 600 Tenere in the garage if she'd like to finish that off.
She'll have to get all the sediment and rust out of the tank (it keeps clogging up the fuel intake and filter), service the oil pump and filter (can't get a new one, so the old one HAS to be refurbished) and the stator isn't well. It isn't charging the battery properly.
And if she can sort out the master cylinder for the front brakes, that'd be a bonus... it loses pressure somewhere, but isn't leaking?
25 Years old... That counts as historic transport doesn't it?

But Fly, if she restores it properly - she could ride it to class! :jig:

maybe when she is NINETY FIVE, when i am dead, there is NO respect for other people on the road in SA, least of all bikes (motor and cycle).
good idea though, get them independant at a young age, she could even lift her younger sister

LOL shame
But I know what you mean though. When Dirk's transport to work everyday was his Kawa ZXR750, I worried all the time. Not that he isn't a responsible and skilled biker, but that the other idiots on the road don't pay attention.
With him having the bakkie now, I stress A LOT less!
What about the Wright brothers' plane? You only need some small planks and some matchsticks and Bob's your aunty.

Fly!
Get hold of me. Let's sort this out.
You must be running out of time by now.
Sorted!
I got you the Sd.Kfz.234/2 Puma APC/tank thingy, but it looks like a 'simple Simon' model, and I think it's crap... so, I also got the Junker JU 88 A-4.
Plan is, practice (not you! Your daughter!) on the Puma, and when that's done, move onto the Junkers fighter/bomber. That one, I got the paints for too. As close as possible to the paints recommended on the box, anyway (stocks were limited. Also, they were marked down... I think they may be a bit dated, so be sure to have some thinners on hand)
Also, brushes and glue (1 regular, for parental involvement purposes, and 1 non-toxic, for the kids to use)
I looked for the Titanic, and wood models, but they cost thousands... These count as historic, IMO.
I'll drop all this crap off at your place on the way home (somewhere around 6-ish)
I expect to see photos of the finished product in this thread...
