PLEASE HELP ME. I am getting VERY bad FPS in BC2 even though I have the rig for it.
I upgraded to a decent rig that would run the game well.... Yeah right:
Q9550@3GHz|P5N-D|4GB Ram|HD48902GB|XFiFatal1tyPro

All my drivers are updated. ATi is 10.4 (installed after uninstalling 10.3 properly)
ALL OPTIONS WILL BE ATTEMPTED. I CAN'T GO ON LIKE THIS!!

Bloom + HBAO + VSync off. Sound detail on HiFi (lowest). Everything in the settings file is low.

What OS are you using?

Do you startup through Steam?

Are you running fraps/what version?

From: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/15/421584.page :

I found that in the Beta my game was only using one core (which remained pegged @ 100%) I found a thread somewhere which said to add the "+fullproc" to the end of the command line in the game shortcut. This did in fact allow the game to use all the cores, and no longer pegged out one. FPS/choppiness improved dramatically, and stopped most of my CTD problems.

This retail version.. upon install i quickly checked, and once again.. 1 core only. I did the "+fullproc" like in the beta, and I have very smooth graphics. Maybe this will help you... dunno could be just a mobo/chipset issue for my setup, that was bottlenecking my video performance. Maybe it will help.

Rightclick the shortcut to BC2 and choose properties, in the "Target" field add +fullproc and you should be all set.

System specs:
Win 7 pro -64bit
Asus M4A77TD mobo
Phenom 965 Black quad core 3.4ghz
Asus EAH 4890 TOP
Gskill DDR3 1600 (8 gigs)

Throwing some ideas out.

Have you benchmarked other games to see if its just BC2 that performs badly or a driver/hardware issue?
You measuring framerate with fraps? Update to latest version and try again pls.
Tried disabling antivirus? I read that AVG's resident shield has an effect (probably a small one) on BC2.
I see that you've tried DX9, have you tried disabling AA and AF? Shouldnt be necessary with your rig but should gain you ~10fps. Try changing from CCC.

I read before (I think on SGS) that the +fullproc doesnt work. Won't hurt to try though.

So far found this link:

What PSU are your running?

Phatso

Tried +fullproc, didn't help. Jonno, how exactly did you check that it was only using one core?

No FRAPS (i can see sub 30FPS... it just runs like shit), NOT using steam.

My antivirus is MSE. Don't know if disabling will make a difference, but will try and report back.
AA and AF are both disabled.
My other games run fine. Although I don't really have a lot of new games, but GTAIV runs well and its a REALLY BAD port too.

Tried everything on that link Sheri, no avail.

PSU is a Coolermaster eXtreme Power Plus 550W.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming!

I didn't. That is a quote from whoever posted on the link before it. ( http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/15/421584.page )

What bios ver. u running on that mobo Phats?
I see there is 2 fixes in the bios updates concerning ATI cards.
Another thing I was thinking....Overheating???
Is your GFX new? Maybe your card is fooked??
Cause when I had issue's with my pc & was troubleshooting I swopped out my GTX 295 with a 8800GT that I have here......Got 60+ FPS with 8800.

i have a 8800GT that you could borrow to check.

i wonder phats, have you checked your line speed??
i know that ping might be an indication, but with iburst, game "lag" doesnt always follow.

550W, BUT - what are the connecttion requirements to the HD48902GB? have you plugged the right "rail" in?
it needs 300 watts acording to a forum i read, that leaves 250W for the REST of your system NVM the AMPS it will need.

i hope this helps:

Cons: None really. I see people saying that the card doesn't come with an 8 pin cable, just two 6 pins instead. Well, if you have a PSU that has an 8 pin and a 6 pin then you're already set. If not, call the company and they'll send you an 8 pin out for nothing! Why are you deducting eggs for this? Has nothing to do with how this card performs. To the person below who says you need a 750 watt PSU for only one card, WHAT? I have 2 of these in CrossFire and I'm using a 750 watt PSU running both cards! And have plenty of wattage left over. Look at the specs, it says you only need 600 watts for running two of these. Of course, it also depends on what else you're running on your system too, but a 750 PSU is plenty for most people running 2 of these cards.
Other Thoughts: Search for 'extreme power supply calculator' and you'll see how to find the total wattage your system needs. It calculated I only needed a 650 or so PSU, so 750 is plenty extra for me. Make sure you have plenty of amps for the 12V rails also. I have 25 amps on all 4 of my rails so I'm good to go.

Also, people need to check how wide their space is between PCI Express slots before they order this card, you can plainly see in the pics that it has fins on the back for extra cooling so allow for it. They fit just fine on my Intel DX58SO!

something else we talked about, i thought the two input (6 pin) from the PSU should be from SEPARATE rails. please confirm this all you boffs? (rails = separate "legs" of cables comeing out the PSU? )

OK guys, some REALLY interesting stuff.

Based on my convo with fly, I fiddled with my PSU cables going to the GFX card.

I tried the game and noticed that things seemed a little better.
So i got cheeky and cranked the INGAME settings to HIGH... :woah:

The game VERY playable... Better than what it was! This game looks kak hot at those settings!

So I exited and checked the settings, with Bloom and HSAO on, it was VERY playable... :hmmm:

Tweaking settings a bit more now, growth's and shadows... Seeing how smooth I can get it.

Will keep you guys posted, but things are looking way better :)

Dude I used antecs power calculator and based on what I know of your specs they recommend a MINIMUM 650W PSU. It looks to me like you are over-drawing on one of the rails (probly 12V).

Here is the link, enter your details (you will know more exactly what your system specs are) and see what they say:

Geth, I didn't get that value... I got :

Recommended Minimum
PSU Wattage: * : 442w

My next question would be, if my power supply was insufficient, surely my PC wouldn't even boot?

I am going to play around with more settings... Seems like I had VSync on too...

Keep the comments coming guys :)

OK, when I was entering your pc specs into the power calculator I was a bit generous with your peripherals.
From what I know most modern graphics cards draw less power when in start-up and windows as opposed to intensive games. They can still operate with insufficient power but the performance is limited under those circumstances. Sounds like Fly has already given you good advice but given that GPU's are power hungry it helps to give them their own set of cables from the PSU rather than share with other devices.

Thanks Geth.

My game is running pretty well now after a few tweaks and fiddling with my PSU cables :)
High/medium looks naaas.

In my future PC builds, i'll think I'll go for overkill PSU instead of bare minimum.

Skouperd
03-05-2010, 10:01 AM
Hi Phatso, the PC will still start, and you can still play solitaire etc, but as soon as you are pushing the GPU a lot, it starts drawing more power and stability problems is next in line. Running certain benchmarks, tend to focus only on one or two components at a time, thus never really pushing the GPU and the CPU like BC2 does.

I know it is still a relatively unknown brand of PSU's but I really like the Corsair power supplies. I have a big one in my PC and I also know that Dragonne have one running is uber machine. The PSU is the least sexy thing within a PC, definately the thing that is ignored first (apart from perhaps cable management), but without a doubt one of the key components in your PC.

Do yourself a favour, and invest in a good quality, proper PSU.

SlipperyDuck
03-05-2010, 12:02 PM
Yeah, I rate the PSU in a machine as the most important component, it's something that can't be monitored so overkill is a must!
I've got a Corsair 750W PSU - the best thing about these PSU's as opposed to the other brands, is that they use one GIANT 12V rail - the 12V rail is the one that causes all these under-powered situations. Since around the time of the Core2Duo, the dual-rail thing should have been abolished, it results in 2 X underpowered 12V lines and GFX cards be sucking them juices on the 12V line.

Anyway - Corsair or any SINGLE RAIL PSU is key.

Phatso
03-05-2010, 12:38 PM
If all goes well, and I don't get bad FPS again for whatever reason, I will leave my rig as is.

I am planning a full i7 build for an XMas present to myself (or just before rAge - if I feel the itch), and there I will do the 10000000W PSU thing.

Thanks for the support guys :)

(now if only failcom can fix my effing line drops)

I also run my two connectors on separate rails on my Antec Neo HE550.
I have my eye on the Corsair 850 Modular when my Antec gets too "pap in die broek" .

Phatta, you can play with all the settings all you want...just ALWAYS run shadows LOW and HBAO off.

^ That takes about 20% performance away when running max.
Cene has also seen waaay better FPS with those off.

I'd rather get that extra 20% than have dips to 45/50 FPS.
I average 65 - 175 FPS with BLOOM off / HBAO off / Shadows LOW / 4xAA / 4xAF (avg 114 as per Fraps benchmark) :
