This could be just what the BF community needs. An announcement was made yesterday on the release date for Bad Company 2. It's coming at the beginning of March next year. Thats a lot sooner than I expected.

This could be BEEG!!

I can't view the link here is this multi-player? How many? Are their vehicles?

I think tht was one of the big draw cards of BF2, the number of players and the mix of vehicles and infantry, otherwise this could just be a COD4/CSS clone

Dunno why you can't access the link, but I'll post some of the information from the site concerning vehicles:

For Battlefield: Bad Company 2 we wanted to take Battlefield’s traditionally deep vehicle experience and bring it to a whole new level. In order to do this we analyzed every aspect of our vehicle warfare. We pushed the pedal down on Jeeps, increasing their top speed, and making them livelier. We crafted a new control system for Helicopters so more players soar over the Battlefield. We tuned the Tanks, giving them more torque for climbing and smashing through light obstacles. Every single aspect of Bad Company’s original vehicles were tweaked, tuned, and rebalanced. But simply improving our already impressive stable of vehicles was not enough. We wanted to give new tactics and strategy to players via all new rides.

In Bad Company 2 a whole 4 man squad, plus a pilot, can take to the sky via the new UH-60 transport helicopter. This 5 seat vehicle can suppress any hot LZ with dual miniguns, each controlled by a gunner on either side of the helicopter. The additional 2 passengers can contribute their own kit’s fire power through the chopper’s open doors. Of course the UH-60 will have to watch out for the new BMD-AA Mobile Anti-Aircraft vehicle.

The BMD-AA is a Light Tank absolutely blistering with weaponry. The turret mounted dual 23mm AA cannons tears helicopters to pieces with rapid fire bursts. However the AA gunner must sit exposed to enemy fire in order to operate the weapon. The driver packs the explosive power of a 30mm Grenade Machinegun, and two additional passengers are each fully protected inside, with rapid fire machine guns to suppress nearby infantry.

Also making its debut on the Battlefield are smaller, faster vehicles. The Quad Bike carries 2 teammates with quickness and agility across the battlefield in record time. Its small size allows it to slip through gaps and between trees in the forest to escape pursuers or reach that next objective. On the sea, a 2 man Personal Water Craft gives a quicker, stealthier option for crossing open water. While neither vehicle sports arms of their own, the passenger has full access to all of his kit weapons. The high speed of the Quad Bike and PWC give players a new tactical choice on the battlefield.

Of course new and improved vehicles aren’t the only things we’re adding to the Ultimate Vehicle Warfare. Keep watching the Battlefield Blog for more details on the vehicles in Battlefield: Bad Company 2

As for the number of players, that's not been confirmed as yet. The original supported 24 players, but that was console only. One would hope that DICE will be able to extend that to at least 40 players on the PC with dedicated servers.

You can see in the above quote that squads will be supported (although they are limited to 4 players each), and I'm sure that squad based VoIP will be included too as it's currently in BF1943.

It certainly looks like this is the closest we'll get to BF3 for a while...

Only thing still unconfirmed is the number of players supported.

Take a normal standard kit 9mm hand gun and after a few shots at a wall there will be a nice hole to shoot through. All constructions allow shots to chip away at them.

Nice feature.

Ya, numbers will be interesting. hopefully around 40 on a nice sized map. That seems to be a good balance.

And...

More scripted and in-game video, but still looks great. Especially if it's game engine rendered!!

There's a new video up on the BC2 website, and it looks awesome!!

It's entirely in-game footage, so you can get a real feel for what this game is gonna look and play like:

Some more details confirmed. Most importantly, we finally have the number of players supported. At 32 on the PC, it's less than I'd hoped, but better than the 24 on the consoles.

PC Enhanced Features

•Up to 32 Players on PC (24 on consoles) - Play with up to 32 players online in the biggest multiplayer Maps in Battlefield. Each with a different tactical and gameplay focus set across a variety of environments.
•Full DirectX 9, 10 & 11 Support - Immerse yourself in the Battlefield world as Frostbite engine brings tanks, planes, and explosions to vivid life on your PC. The game will fully support Windows XP, Vista, and 7 with new tech that further improves things like lighting and shadows.
•Enhanced Gameplay - The PC version also includes wide peripheral support like Joysticks for flying, NVDIA 3D Vision, Logitech LCD Keyboards and VoIP Support plus a variety of specific features tailored for PC play.
•Friend Support - Find your friends online with the new buddy list to see if and who is online so you can quickly join their game.
•Dedicated Ranked Server - Everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties based on some other player's internet. Ranked Server Provider program will give players opportunity to rent their own server(s) located in professional grade datacenters, ability to modify settings like map rotation, create reserved slots for friends or clan members, kick & Ban players, and custom name your ranked server.
•Clan Support & Private Servers - Independent Clan Tag, and ability to rent servers for hosting and controlling private password protected competitive servers with expanded control over the settings from public ranked servers.
•PC Squad Play System - Updated from previous Battlefield PC titles now gives control of your squad before heading into combat.

Here's a review (based on the Beta PS3 release). Found on http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/:

First thing we all have to say a HUGE thank you to the DICE/EA team Gordon, Kevin and many others. Thank you for having us out to your place! First class all the way! Thank you for much!

Secondly if I step on any toes I have not meant to, I tried my best to talk to Ron, Bry, and Tep in order to bring the community the best info possible. However, we seen a few things we should not have and got in trouble for it, and I don’t want to step on Gordon’s, Kevin’s, or anyone else at EA/Dice after they treated us to a 5 star hotel and dinner. Don’t hold me to every word, because we played alpha/beta things can and will change. That being said let’s roll!

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will deliver a level of destruction, warfare, squad play and world environments never before experienced in a FPS game. Bad company 2 could set the bar very high for the up coming year. The game we played allowed for a diversified, complicated and moderate game play. There are hints of immersions of days of older glory such as Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, and Bad Company all playing there role in making this game. The intangibles that make Battlefield Bad Company 2 a good game are a solid foundation in which players feel a state of being deeply engaged or involved in the game because of all the new features such as the intense amount of customization that are available in your weapons lay out. Its unique ability and destructible environment allows for a much more intensive game and dynamic environments such as desert, snow, or the jungle are both eye catching and extremely challenging for all players making for a much more strategy oriented game play.

Game modes: #3 vijx how do private matchs work and explian what is HC mode

4 Game modes: Rush, CQ, Squad DM, and Unknown. All of them can be played normally or in Hard-Core mode. Hard core will be for the competitive side of gaming. There will be no red dots, no kill cam, and more realistic damage on the weapons. It will be a ranked mode and can be chosen for all 4 modes of game play. This will allow any user to choose his or her style of game play. It will also remove the HUD, cross hair so you’re using iron sights, Acog or reddot which ever you prefer for taking down your target. The best feature is there will be no enemy icons for fellow players to ghost you and friendly fire is on! Ronin0ni adds Motion Sensors: Limit number active. Subject and likely to change (a bit extreme) in HC mode sensors will emit an audible beep when an enemy is nearby.

In SQDM first team to 50 tickets wins, but GEVD said they might raise that number depending on how well the community likes this type of game play. Personally I thought it was great, we were all screaming having blast with this it’s really 4v12 although the other team mind shot at you they might shoot someone else too. I though it was really a great new feature to add to the series. The APC you seen in the video posted can make or break your team, if you get it you have to protect from the other team while scoring as many points as possible, however if the other team gets it you will have to take it out in a quick and devastating manner.

Guns/weapons layout
The variety of weapons is enough to make and BF players drool. There is literally an arsenal of weapons to choose from so many that it took at least 5 to 8 mins to pick mine because I was so over whelmed by the shear amount of guns. EA/Dice unlocked all the guns for us to use and it is mind blowing how good some are and are not.

There is single shot, 3 round burst, and full auto. I used the m16 which is great for long to medium range and is a 3 round burst only gun, however many used the G3 which can be single and full auto both are very powerful guns in the right hands sadly it was not mine! The sniper rifles I felt are very underpowered and lack real knock out power. The only way to get a kill is via a head shot which is fine at 1000 yards, but not at 200. I used an M95, GOL, and M24. You can customize the gun and put an Acog or other scopes on it. That will be up to you as a player and your type of game play. The amount of customizing is truly an amazing and I really enjoyed the advance features and layout of the kits and different accessories that I could put on the gun. I used support as well and I have read some in the PS 3 forums that there’s not enough recoil. I disagree the ones I used seem to have a lot of kick to them!

However, you can run out of ammo very quickly and you will need to work as a unit in order to maintain your kill to death/ ammo ratio. You will need to throw down ammo pack and health in order to win each round as a team. The one feature that also sticks out in my mind is the tracer pistol. Now you to have the option of using the tracer round you give up your secondary weapon for that gun. There should be a perk where you shoot someone with the tracer round you kill them and get a reward. It really made me think if I wanted to just zoom in on the enemy and hit select and spot them and keep my pistol as back up. Or did I want the tracer gun and select the engineer and tag the tank and use the rockets to take him out it not an easy choice and depending on whos in the tank could cost you a round or two.

Vehicles There are a variety of toys to play with in BFBC2. From the fast ATV, Juggernaut Tank, and nimble Apache helo all offer each player something different. The ATV is great of setting up the other team spawn point, 1BRYCE1 proved that by deploying land mines in front of the other teams spawn point and letting them run over them with there amour thus, effectively taking them out. It was on conquest and it helped us to win the round. The tanks are beast they are very well armored, with a slow reload time once fired. 1BRYCE1 adds it was on Panama Canal, there were numerous choke points and lots of places to ambush tanks.

The newest feature that we almost all enjoyed was the mini helo. This vehicle allows you to see the battlefield from a birds eye view. While having the ability to attack and destroy a tank with tank buster missiles. It can also be used as Ron tried to and kill players by landing on them which it’s a boat load of fun it too was on Panama! The down side is your standing in front of a controller while the helo is flying so your back is turned and you will be killed or worse knifed. One should keep this in mind while playing the game.

Tephra adds in my experiences with stealing vehicles during conquest matches is a very important tactic. I secured the enemy chopper and held onto it for almost the entire match, and am one of the only gamers in the world to have experienced the chopper. It is very difficult to drive with the console controls (but I was still learning console controls). Gordon and I basically dominated from above with both choppers (team and enemy stolen.) We would fly back to base and repair each other in between domination. The chopper has a dual fire mechanism, there is a ~6 missiles volley as the standard attack, and a lock on missile that is very difficult to use. The secondary gunner is actually REALLY effective, and will be a huge asset; that anyone can use a very accurate chain gun, which is devastating for anti-infantry.

The chopper takes quite a bit of damage from enemy mounted machine guns and regular soldier fire. I have a feeling the chopper is going to be something people won't find overpowered. It takes a lot of effort to destroy a tank with regular missiles, and you can get shot down pretty easily by a mounted mg. Overall it's going to take skill, and the 30-40 minutes we got to play with it wasn't enough time to adjust.

I notice the ceiling on the helo was not very high at all those you will be taking ground fire and tracer darts! Which fires a great distance so tagging a chopper might be too hard, although that really depends on the pilot. While Tphra and Gordon they did take some damage and had to repair. I asked GEVD if it repair on it’s own, (helo pad in other words) he said no you need and engineer to do it.

Game play A few key notes you should know there was unlimited sprint in game.(console version no idea about PC?) No prone and no plans to add it on any platform unless a miracle happens and EA/Dice adds it. The mechanics of the players were well done it was easy to invite and join squad members and squad leaders during game play. I don’t think squad hoping will be to big a problem, but I can see it being abused during match play. As for DLC the dice team hinted that they will be a lot more support for this game.
The modes and maps that we played are Squad Deathmatch (Laguna Presa map) and Conquest (Panama Canal and Atacama Desert maps) and Rush (Arica Harbor). Friendly Fire is off, but on HC mode it’s on! Confirmed Mini map as well.

Battle recorder PC and Anti cheat There will not be a BR, (unknown for sure) Tep, Bryce, and I hounded GEVD about this and he was open to the idea for matching of maybe patching in a FPV, but nothing is set in stone. I can promise you one thing we really stressed this point and hopefully they will listen to us. I do think I remember him saying something about there might be one in HC mode, but don’t hold me too it sorry.

Punkbuster will be the Anti cheat, According to them the beta PC is on time and on date some time in Jan would not give us a date or time line, but as for keys they did say it’s going to be a lot like the PS3 so most of us FORUM junkies should get one.

As for a surprise let’s just say there was quite a grin on Gordon’s face when we talked about BF3, but he was quick to point out he’s never heard of that game. We all busted out laughing! Lying SOB what he is! I called him on it! Nothing official of course, but we all know the truth! There will be more than 8 maps!

#1 Server browser/clan support and any bonus stuff for vets? Plans for DLC

No Browers for console sorry men, but there will be one for PC much like BF2 layout. No word on any bonus stuff for vets sorry, and they would not expand on the furture support of the game.

#2 Zulu controllers can or will it be customizable & HUD? Plus party support if you don't have4 members online

Somewhat you can adjust the speed in which you can turn your player which I thought was great giving you more control over the player I turned mine all the way up and still sucked

#4 Ace/tteddy88 what map will xbox have for beta(we might see it tomorrow) and give us a date!

There is no beta for xbox unless you count the demo as one.

#5 spacefox idea for kill cam would they look it over?

They are pretty happy with the KC so unless you play HC then no way to remove it on console.

#6 crimson engage any new wepons must everyone read the twitter post about the new skin will there be any surprise we not yet seen?

I seen an m14, Thompson, G1 Grand, and G3 those count?

BTW before you bust my chops something I/we didn’t cover remember we don’t have to write anything. We could just keep all the info to ourselves, but instead I/we believe in the Battlefield series and community!
