Some benchmark figures posted on the Steampowered forums... the user upgraded from a dual core to a quad core running at exactly the same clock frequencies. Everything else in his system remained the same...
Upgraded from Core2Duo to Core2Quad [BENCHMARKS]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upgraded my processor. I'll let the numbers tell their own story.
Core 2 Duo @ 2.6GHz
Min 4
Max 54
Avg 28
Core 2 Quad @ 2.6GHz
Min 36
Max 82
Avg 52
MSI P6N SLI Platinum
4 GB DDR2
EVGA GTX 275 (stock speed)
All graphical settings were at minimum during both benchmarks, but with a resolution of 1920x1080.
As previously noted, having an extra couple of CPU cores makes a massive difference in frame rates!!
I'll try and run a benchmark with hyperthreading on and off on my i7 - would be good to see if doubling that to 8 (logical) cores adds even more performance.
