View Full Version : Recommend a Video Camera
Ok so I am going to the States in May/June and would like to get a video camera so I can be a complete tourist. Now I know squat about video cameras but I think a couple of you might know e.g. Lee, Drag and j0nny (finally a use).
I don't want a state of the art one, just something small and compact like that take good vids. I am not to worried if it doesn't take good stills as we have a camera for that.
So if you could recommend a good camera for like R2000 or less that would be awesome. I will post the ones I find here for your opinion

What a coincidence!! We recently advertised our handycam on gumtree, it hasn't sold as yet...
Reason for the sale? I've decided to 'downgrade' my photo equipment. As nice as my Digital SLR is, it's just not practical to lug around when you have two small kids, not to mention carrying a video camera too. So we've ordered a Superzoom compact, one that takes good video footage too. Therefore - all in one. Smaller, easier to cary and more likely to be used.
Anyway, a bit about the handycam. It's a Sony, has a 30GB HDD for recording onto, and a docking station for transeferring to PC. It's SD, so if you want an HD camera you'll need to look elsewhere (although you'd better have loads of HDD space if you want to shoot in HD).
As a sample, a fair portion of the grrrAge footage over the last few years was shot with that camera.
Let me know if you're interested - I make good price for you.
Point me to the gumtree ad and I will have a look see

Sorry Fly, seems that my response wasn't exactly clear. The SLR is my digital still camera (Canon EOS 300D). I wanted to get rid of it coz lugging around three lenses is a bit of a bitch. Then discovered that good superzoom compacts can do very good video recording as well as taking great still shots (the one I'm getting does 30FPS 1080P). Therefore I can sell my video camera as well, and just use the one camera to do both.

LOL, sorry mate, there's a big miscommunication going on here.
The SLR has already been sold. I was offering the camcorder to Paul because that's what he's after. I only mentioned the SLR in explanation of why I was selling the camcorder.
