I know I seem to get hyped at every title in the world, but the truth is I am just that passionate about gaming and I like the way titles try new things and are able to get people excited, even if they wind up failing. I want more people to feel this hype, whether they get into a game or not.

Giving COD all the shit its deserved over the years is something that comes naturally to all of us (myself incl) but whats happened to our beloved Battlefield of late, and how Hardline is shaping up, means that a few guys will most likely not pick up BF:H. We do not know whats going to happen with the leagues ITO competitive gaming etc... but this has come onto a few guys' radars and I thought we should all take a look at get a discussion going.

I know we love our vehicular combat, but from the looks of BF:H so far, it looks like it may not be a big part of the game. On the other hand, COD:AW looks like an almost arena styled shooter.. Fast paced, double jumps, dodging and some crazy weaponry. I am not saying go and pre-order here guys, because (i know that doesn't work ;) and) its early days and titles should be gauged properly.

I just think that since its a COD, it will most likely have a crazy following, massive community (probably quite tardy, but look at the BF community..), competitive leagues and a fair bit of longevity (1 - 2 years).

I am quite keen to give this a bash, but like I said, will wait and see a bit more. So far, it looks really good. Watch the whole clip and lets get a chat going!

Nice looking gameplay trailer, brings some pace back into the game.

I've bought every CoD title over the years , I generally enjoy the SP campaign, even if I don't do too much MP. Usually once it's on a Steam sale though, I've generally found the $60 pricetag too high for something I'll only play a little)

The big question for me on this one though is if they have proper dedicated servers or not. Ghosts doesn't, it's a matchmaking game, and the MP suffers for it.

Ultimately, if a number of people go for this, and it gets some playtime, I'll definitely be up for it. Even if I am too old/slow to play the game competitively.

COD:WAW was one my favourite FPS's of all time. I will watch the vids and if the reviews are good, get the game.
After BF4 and Watchdogs I am very shy to buy an unfinished, buggy game. If COD gets the nod, I will nod the COD.

I would be very disappointed if it turned out to be that repetitive but, my impressions from vids and game reviewers who have played at various launches is that it will be a of fun and it will play out differently each time.
There are different ways for the different creatures to evolve and each of the 4 people need to combine cleverly to bring the beast down.

I am also hyped for Evolve.... RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

Anyways, AW Looks interesting. Still think the proper COD games ended with 4. Not convinced by AW, don't think double jumping and laser beams from the sky can save that series and make it a proper competitive shooter again. But who knows, will see how they handle servers,balancing and polishing of the core mechanics etc.

Game companies should stop catering for console gamers and as an after thought port the games to PC. Instead they should bring out a proper competitive shooter, polished and balanced but I doubt whether that will ever happen again seeing as console gaming these days are bringing in a metric fuck ton of money for them.

We might need to wait and see what happens with the DGC and the league next year. BF4 after the last patch (and over a year) is actually now quite a good game. I can see myself still playing it for a while unless the clan moves onto something else then i will join in

The biggest thing we need to be wary of is that we don't know what the dedicated PC server situation looks like.
This is a big concern as Peer to Peer matchmaking and hosting is drivel and we need dedicated servers for an MP title. Hasn't been announced and for me thats the decider actually.

The good shit though...

+While a lot guys say that "its the same old COD", obviously it will have the killstreaks and the crazy camo and the plethora of weapons. Thats a flavour of the whole series. Thats like saying every Battlefield is same old same old because of vehicles.
+Then there is the futuristic era. While I am not the biggest fan of it, the fact that its NOT a modern day shooter (like the past 6 or 7 FPS') is AMAZING. Titanfall tried but I won't go into that.. This looks like a better bit of gunplay and not too many frikkin laz0rz.
+The movement aspect. With the introduction of the exo-suit, you can do all sorts of shit. Its kinda like the Crysis style suits and add a new dimension to the series. Double jumping, longer jumping, dodging... Its a great change to the standard dolphin diving/bunny hopping and is something that always had me by the goons with arena shooters.. which leads me to the next point..
+The arena style of it all. Long live arena shooters. While we are all obviously getting old and slow with reaction times, I cut my teeth on arena shooters and will always be close to me. The fast paced, twitchy, flickshot, skillshot goodness is awesome. It won't work the 99 times, but the 1 time it does.. hnnnng. Its like that perfect golf shot.
+The backing of the franchise. While other arena shooters and FPS titles that are around the corner are exciting (UT4, Toxxikk), they just don't have the rep to get the big numbers. More players = more playability. The smaller FPS' have always died after 1 or 2 months due to dwindling numbers. As this is COD, it may have legs.


BUT LIKE I SAID DO NOT GO PREORDER NOT THAT YOU WILL. I AM JUST STATING MY OPINION ON THIS ALL. THIS IS NOT ANOTHER HAHA PH4TSO SAID BUY IT THING. I WANT DISCUSSION FFS.

Ok cool lets keep an eye on this but as I have said a few times now, any new game I purchase as far as clan games go will only be made like a month after a few people have adopted it and given it a green light.

Been gaming for close to 25 years now and this last year and a bit has been the most jaded period ever for me. I am just glad that they finally got BF right and that Hardline has been postponed.

I think that saved a lot of BF fans.

That'll never happen with COD. Other titles will incentivise you to pre-order, not the most successful FPS franchise on the planet. I't's gonna be $60 for a long time from now.

There is a COD:Ghosts league, and when I looked at the MP in that it looked to be run through matchmaking. I assume then that they will be able to make the game competitive even if it doesn't have the dedicated server setup that we're used to?

Anyone played a recent COD title competitively (MW2 or later)? If so, how does it work?

They know that matchmaking pissed off their PC market previously, so I will await their official statement before judgement.

I think the question is more about dedicated servers in general. Given the popularity of the franchise you can be pretty sure that, should the game support dedicated servers, they will have servers available in SA.

As whether or not the game supports this, your guess is as good as mine. Still keen to know how MW3, Blops 2 and Ghosts MP works.

I tried firing up MP in Ghosts last night, and it wasn't encouraging. MP required me to choose a game type, and then it searched for games for me to join. I selected TDM (usually the most popular COD mode), and it searched for a few seconds before saying that there were no games available. The same applied for the other game types.

Either Ghosts has been a miserable failure on PC ins SA if no-one is playing public MP games, or the matchmaking system is totally fucked.

Jackfrags' opinion. He is one of the better Youtubers in the world and the gameplay is quite solid to give you an idea of what to expect.
Remember, thats all pub gaming. I imagine competitive modes will be a lot more methodical.

Anyway, so in the usual, expected, tradition of game breaking news, it would appear that CODAW is deficient in dedicated server options.

I installed the game last night (an hour and a half to install from disk, plus an additional 2.5GB of updates), but didn't get a chance to play. Had a brief look at the MP launcher this morning before work, and I only had the option to 'Join Game', followed by picking the game type. It then started searching for games... i.e. no server browser, it looks to be entirely peer-to-peer.

So, if you're thinking of this as a competitive option, we'll need to see if there is a dedicated server option added later. Given that Ghosts never had one, I'd be surprised if they add it to this game.

I reckon I'll enjoy the game regardless, purely for pub fun (and the SP campaign looks quite decent too), but I don't have high hopes at this stage for it's competitive viability.

Thanks for the info Jay, i got my box set earlier today. An extra 2.5 GB instead of a solid 40+ GB is good enough for me.

While there isn't dedicated servers / server browser as yet, the developers actually said there would be. When however, is another story. But the community is quite upset about it.

Given that the competitive nature of COD failed with Ghosts, I think they want to get it back and with 13 game modes + Classic mode .. as well as a BROADCAST mode, I think it was built with eSports in mind. Obviously this is early days.

Having watched a fair bit of streaming now and read a multitude of reddit posts, tweets and opinions, I think that irrespective its going to be a lot of fun. Whether it will have the legs is another story, but with a full blown COOP Zombie campaign also down the line (leaked info), I foresee this filling the gap quite nicely.

Besides, if you're an unlock hooker like i am, this game is JIZZ. ("Oh?? Only 325 headshots with the pistol to go? NICE")

Please don't buy this game for the sake of buying it. Do not feel pressurized to get it. We do not know ANTHING about DGC 2015 yet... I can confirm however that there are going to be a few guys from other clans in SA playing, so there will always be a bit of a crew to jam with.

In an interview with Stevivor from earlier this month, Sledgehammer Games’ Michael Condrey answered the question of whether or not dedicated servers will be supported by Advanced Warfare.
